Limped off last night with 10 minutes to go against Falkirk in the CIS cup.

Looks like he might miss the Italy and Montenegro games. Perhaps a call up for Andy Reid as a replacement?

Or maybe a start for Lawrence?

Would be a diplomatic opportunity to bring Andy into the squad, should McGeady be unfit.

after the South Africa games I reckon the winger pecking order is Duff and McGeady, with Hunt and Lawrence as the first choice backups for the left and right wing, respectively. Another bonus of his performance is that now we have specialised backup for both positions, instead of forcing one of Duff, Hunt or McGeady to play in the opposite wing to their preferred one

Hes going to sit out the game this weekend against St. Mirren however, the full extent of the injury appears to be still unknown.
Couple of big club games coming up against Rapid and Rangers before our game with Italy. Hopefully the injury is minor as he hobbled off, still 2 weeks to go before the 10th Oct :-)

Duffer and Hunt must be certain to start if Aiden is unfit. Fingers crossed he is OK though. I imagine he won't be released unless he makes the Rangers game.
However even the Montenegro game must be realistic given it is 10 days after the Rangers game. In reality that is the key game for us now.
Why bring on your best player after resting him when 3-0 up in the 2nd half against a bunch of cloggers? Surely Wilo Flood needed the game time far more than Aiden?

Makes no sense whatsoever - unless Flood was struggling in some way through injury/fitness? Even so Mizuno was still on the bench at that point and also needs game time.....

His replacement scored a cracking goal today. Absolutely cracking goal from Pat McCourt.

Looks like we might need him. Duff off injured after 8 minutes this evening. If both are unavailable it might be a competitive debut for Liam Lawrence.

It's Flood I'm more concerned about than McGeady. McCourt's gone from relative outsider to starting XI in 2 games. Flood wasn't even in the squad today.

the burst of pace away from the last defender is something mcgeady is missing.... although i don't think he's going to take mcgeady's place just yet.... also, niall mcginn is below mccourt in pecking order at celtic but above him for the north.... strange :?

What about hairy Gigg's goal against Arsenal, looks like a duplicate of McCourt's goal.

no question the St. Mirren defending was shocking but two great posts above prove the EPL is not immune from such defending.
We have gone completely of topic here but what I like about McCourts style is that its completely unlike McGeadys, no real trickery involved, just a fairly direct approach to face the defender whilst on the run and slalom his way towards goal. Not seen enough of him yet to take a punt on whether he'll make the grade but as a fan youve got to love players willing to go past a man and shoot - simple as.
McGeady will hopefully be fit for Thurs against Rapid Vienna so we shouldnt have any current worries abbout him being fit for the Italy game as long as he doesnt pick up any knock in the two celtic games between now and then.

Actually, yes. Paddy McCourt is not Diego Mardona. Bad comparison.

The difference between McCourt's goal and the others shown above is that McCourt looks like he is running in slow motion even though it's realtime.
I can score goals like that at U12 level.

So the defending in the EPL examples was ok or poor?

McGeady scored a pen yesterday in the 2-1 defeat to Rangers.
It was a pressure spot kick at 2-0 down, a little fortunate as McGregor got a hand to it but couldnt keep it out. McGeady had a decent game, his link up play was good and I know for Ireland this part of his game is very important, its not just about beating a man and getting a cross in, its about creating an opening with quick one touch passing which hes very good at. Also taking the ball in tight, difficult positions and retaining possession which he did well. Aiden was clearly targetted with 2 or 3 men regularly marking him, he got clattered a fair few times - no injuries though thankfully.
On a side note the CB pairing for Celtic was once again shocking. O'Dea would certainly have got an opportunity in the starting 11 over the last month had he not gone to Reading on loan. Sods law, still Im glad he is getting game time down there.

Mowbray should recall him. I have never been that impressed by either Caldwell or McManus. I think O'Dea suffered due to Strachan's innate preferance for the "Scottish option" whenever presented with a selection dilemma. or maybe I am bing paranoid.

Yet to score for us which is bizarre really, would certainly be a great time for him to get off the mark in the playoffs.

Scored a nice left foot curler in to the top corner form inside the box today. Had a good game out on the right handside. Starting to add some consistency to his game - played well for last couple of months now after a sluggish start to the season.
http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=11lnf53&s=6
Received a booking for sticking his leg out and tripping an opponent at a throw in - stupid/petulant. Ive seen red given for similar in the past. Needs to cut it out.
More media speculation on a move to the EPL recently, Birmingham City the latest link (though we are entering silly season and the Robbie Keane to Celtic garbage has already started) some quotes from Aiden below....
"I am still fairly young. I'm 23 and every player has aspirations to play at the top level and I won't deny that I feel that way too," McGeady told the Daily Record.
"But things are starting to go a bit better here than they were before. I'm happy at Celtic.
"There was a point a few months back when I probably wasn't, but I'm starting to get back to enjoying it the way I did before. That's down to the change of style in the football we're being asked to play.
"If a team comes in with a bid then I'm still under contract until 2013. Like I say, though, everyone wants to play in England or abroad. I won't deny I have those ambitions."

He better than any of Liverpools or Man United(Ryan Giggs aside coz hes not really a winger anymore) wingers. I think hes definately capable of top 4 level in the Premiership

Agree with what your saying in that it would be a good move for him but honestly believe he would be up to it.

There always seems to be some upheaval or other at Anfield though and there could be more to come.
Will Benitez last much longer or will he go of his own accord. Liverpool desperately need somebody to come in with the money and cojones to make Liverpool a genuine contender for the league again.
These kind of people do not grow on trees though.
I would like to see Aiden go to a top league but it would be better to go to a more stable club than Liverpool. The older Liverpool supporters must struggle to come to terms with the state of the club for the last few years.

I suppose I mean back in the days when Liverpool was the most stable club in England which is a long time ago alright.
To be fair Benitez has not had enough money to buy players capable of toppling Chelsea and Utd (for the league). What are the wages of players at Chelsea and Utd in comparison to Liverpool.
Having said all this Benitez chops and changes too much and has been too defensive against the average/good teams in the premier league.
If he did not have that champions league victory (and lets face it there was a lot of luck involved) then a lot more people would consider his time at Liverpool as not very successful.
Liverpool need investors with deep pockets and all I am saying is that if I were putting up that kind of money then I am not sure I would like Benitez being the one deciding how it was spent.
Not having a go lads but there is enough sh!te talk about Benitez and that scummy club in the world forum. Lets keep this to McGeady.

Seriously, I think moving to Liverpool would be a great move for both McGeady and Ireland. At this stage in his career I think he needs to leave the goldfish bowl that is Scottish football and take a step up and play at Premiership level week in week out.

Villa look even better though, I wonder if Martin O'Neill ever considered making a move for him given the Celtic connection. They're pretty strong on the wings though at present I suppose!
