Began yesterday, I think, with Pat's winning 4-1 against the Sh!te College. We're up against Pat's on Saturday. Pre-season form hasn't been great, but it was like that as well last year and we retained our title. Touch wood for three-in-a-row this year! Will try and use this thread to keep the season up-to-date.

Is the team stronger or weaker than before?
pineapple stu

No idea really. We should be getting in the next bunch of scholarship students about now, which would strengthen it up from the Shield team anyway. Presumably we'll use the U-21s to keep the bench players match-fit too, which would mean we'd have a couple of first-team players in there as well on occasion - maybe Cawley/Dicker/Hurley.

First result - UCD 6-0 Pat's. Superb result against a team who are usually well up in the running and who topped out division last year, beating us in Belfield and knocking us out of the Enda McGuill Cup. Think that's some questions about the team answered! Goalscorers - Ciarán Quinn (pen), John Brophy (2), P Kavanagh, og (2)

Tremendous result. As you say, Pat's have been our main challenge in this region along with Bray. I expected a narrow win at best. Two own goals is a bit weird. I asked Maccer if Brophy was still around this pre-season, well there he is. Wonder what age he is as I thought he was too old to stay on another year.

That's impressive form. Bray and Shels should prove sterner tests though. Brophy is showing Paul Byrne-esque scoring form.

Thank you John. I'm aware what that part of the message meant.
I'm just curious as to how a simple 1-0 defeat for Tiniry to Bray can bring so much happiness!

good result by d 21s last night thought the centre half nd left full wher very good aswell as the midfield
your number 10 was a cracking player
best on the pitch imo
thought you were very comfortable til we equalised and then looked a bit rattled.
some very very dodgy decisions by Mr Winter the ref.
2 of which led to the winning goals for you.
1st was a clear back pass which ur keeper missed then recovered to pick up on the line but no free. 2nd was a definite corner that he gave as a goal kick....Not bitter, better team defo won, and much better than the 6-0 mauling in the league

Paul Byrne, I assume? Scored the third goal? Superb player - took five seconds on his Premier Division debut to score...in Richmond last season.

How did those lead to goals for us?
1st one - back pass not given, ur keeper throws it out, some of our players moaning at ref, ball goes into the box, deflection, goal....wouldnt have happened if indirect free was given for back pass.
2nd one - goal kick given instead of corner, some of our players & manager moaning at ref, ball goes to "Pele" Quinn who hits cross bar, ur striker (clearly offside) scores....
jaysus this really sounds like im bitter but as i said above better team won, just ref's ineptitude didnt help, but being an eL fan i should be used to that

The Pats team only have themselves to blame for moaning and not getting on with the game.

Agreed, but the standard of reffing is appauling ! Rohna was doing one of our matches against Dublin City (RIP) and he got in the way of play so many times, at one stage she virtually caught the ball !

Beat Trinity 2-1 today. Paul Byrne (I think, was at the other end of the pitch) scored after a minute, Trinity equalised after 15. A slightly harsh penalty for handball was scored by Ronan Finn with maybe 20 minutes left. Alan Mahon played at right back and John Brophy came on at half time. Our left winger, Dave something, looked good; made some nice runs and crossed well.

Were we given a 3 - 0 win for the game Shels couldn't play? I think we should offer them a replay now that they're back on track. It could improve our goal difference.

Yep. Got the last couple of minutes heading in to pick up the car after last night. Didn't really see anything of it. Crumlin seemed delighted with the win. Only player I recognised in the brief spell I was watching was Harte. Paul Byrne and Gary Dicker were in attendance.

What happened there ? big shock as far as the U21 league goes..... UCD don't seem to be as strong this year as in pervious seasons. Bray have seemed to have got stronger, roll on the double !
We easily beat St. Pats 3-0, it could and should have been more but 3-0 against any Pats side is a good win. Shels next in the cup in the Carlisle at the weekend, hopefully they can feild a side this time round
