With Ireland failing to qualify the World Cup could be boaring but i have decided to support a couple of teams and will probly go over to Germany to see them, Wife and Time permitting. If Norway get past the play offs they will get my support( nearest Team to celts ) and Togo. Its their first time ever in a final and to mark the occasion monday was a paid public holiday there. They are ranked 54th in the world (remember cameroon) .These guys play with passion and with a belief they can win. What if they got England in their group?:ball: .There a small African country with 5 million people stuck between Ghana and Benin,(I looked it up on the map, :D )These are my choices for a bit of fun . Whats Yours.:ball:

I'll be cheering for England.
Don't know anyone who plays for Togo.
Will watch any game I can and enjoy it as a neutral.
Yep, I'll be cheering for my native Toga

Presume you're joking.
Yeah Togo sounds like a laugh so why not? Great thing about these new countries qualifying is that their games will be half empty.
Japan cos the people were so friendly, humble and respectful. Hope to get in to cheer any team playing the huns:D

Why would I be joking?
Is there something funny about supporting England but perfectly reasonable about supporting Togo?

I might just pick a team at random ,put a few bob on them in the bookies .That way I will have interest in the world cup other than that It wouldnt bother me whom went on to win the competition.
;) Somebody said that the Ivory Coast have the same colours as us but the other way round. This could be a cheap option with no necessity to get any new gear

Trinidad if they get through, the brother in law is from there, although the English relations might have something to say about that :D Fair play Peadar, at least your honest, refreshing change from the EPL fans in the boozer shouting for anyone but England

I presume a buster is a posh name for a sweep, not Cork underwear with an "i" missing:D :D :D :D
Japan. I work for a Japanese company and also had a wonderful time out there for the 2002 world cup. I had most of our office in Tokyo supporting Ireland (after Japan obviously). Had to bring a suitcase full of Ireland jerseys, scarfs and flags out with me when I was there for the WC.

I'll be rooting for the Czech Republic. Robbed of glory in euro '96, mugged by Greece in Euro 2004. Like that punk rock band in the old 80's Kit Kat ad, they'll go a long way. As long as Nedved is fit

I'll be rooting for 'em all right but ver hard to see anybody stopping Brazil. They're frightening
I have a brother in law in Oz and I'm heading out there on Stephen's Day:p I might support them because of that connection;)

Yep gonna be the Socceroos for me too......the tv pictures of celebrations in Sydney after they qualified reminded me of when we qualified for Italia 90 and USA 94. They'll be a good underdog to support too:D
Anyone who likes to say on here that they're supporting England is just trying to wind people up and pretend to be "mature" and have a "holier than thou" mentality.......b0llix to that!!
As others have said: anyone England are playing against:D

Won't be actively supporting anybody but I suppose I'd like to see Australia do alright. It's nice to have them there for a change.

I wont be really supporting anyone, still too disappointed that we wont be there :( However, I think Japan will be the surprise team of the finals. They wont win it but if they don't come up against the likes of Brazil in the early knock-out stages I can see them making the semi-finals and this will be because they played well. So there will be no reasons for the European teams to cry foul play like they did against South Korea last time around.

Also gotta ask if the peolpe who are saying "anyone who's playing England" supports an English club, therefore supports English football? i.e. HYPOCRITES

USA cos Eddie Lewis is playing for them. Super Left winger and has really brought a lot to Leeds since he joined. Reckon that it could be a Mexico v Ivory Coast final though. Both teams have been impressive any time I've seen them

If you are a Hibs supporter then I would expect you to be cheering for the Scots judging by your own logic:confused:
If not then surely supporting a club doesn't obligate anyone to support the national team of where that club is based??!!!
Very narrow minded....

Yes I do support the Scots when they play, even more so now as they average 5 or 6 Hibs players in every squad. I support the Scottish league, I'm not a hypocrite:p
If you need anymore help just tell me what it is you don't understand and I'll try help you out!

My question was:
"..... supporting a club doesn't obligate anyone to support the national team of where that club is based??!!!
What's the rationale against this exactly? Detailed answer required to "help" me out!!!

In supporting an ENGLISH club, you are supporting ENGLISH league, and ENGLISH players, and when you support the club in Europe you are cheering on European succes to ENGLAND. So when you say you support EVERYONE who plays AGAINST ENGLAND it makes you a hypocrite:rolleyes:

Bottom line is you don't go and support your rivals,do you support Hearts when they are in Europe as you say you support the Scots league??,how many supporters of different English clubs wanted Man utd to fail last week and some of the same supporters will be following England in the Summer.Thats football, get over it, not everybody that follows the English leagues wants the national team to do well and that includes many English, why should the Irish be different.
