Real shame that their best player isn?t in the squad. I wonder if Liverpool refused to release him.
Beyond that, I like O?Sullivan, Wade, Okosun and Dodd. McGrath and Razi also have a bit about them.

Just gone 1-0 up vs Armenia through Romeo Akachukwu. Norway 4 up against Belarus in the other match.
It sounds like we've been battering them,

2-0 Mason Melia literally just on as a sub. 20 to go, that should be that.

Brilliant. Razi & Grante have made it 4 with a few mins to go. Great start. 21 attempts vs 1.
We play Belarus first the next day, a good win there will put some pressure on Norway ahead of the final match vs them.

Good performance. My LOI.TV stream was poor, not sure if it was my internet or the stream itself.
We were dominant from the get go. Disappointed we didn?t convert chances in the first half considering the ball barely left their half. Thought Wade was excellent in the first half. Corey O?Sullivan wasn?t as impressive without TKD in front of him. Kehir wasn?t the same out ball down the line and didn?t show for it as much. First time seeing Orazi play. He was impressive. Won the penalty well, quick feet, good turn of pace.
Looking good to qualify, the game against Norway will be a good test?

I had no issues with the stream, might have been your connection?
There was a chance around 10 minutes into the first half where we spent about 20 seconds in their box, but couldn't get a shot away for some reason!

Poor result for the U17s today and will likely lead to a poor seeding for the elite round play if we don't beat Norway.

Drawing 1-1 at half-time after being one nil down. Few changes from the side that had a few changes against Belarus.
Belarus beating Armenia 2-0 at ht, but would require them to hit 6 and us to concede 3 or 4 in the second half to be eliminated.
Of course if we win we qualify as group winners.

Keeper saved a penalty. Thought it was a bit of a harsh penalty anyway. He’s in the school of Brian Maher, Jimmy Corcoran tiny keepers.
It’s the Norway side we beat 3-0 recently with our best team, so more than capable of getting a result

As fourth seeds, we're probably going to get a tough draw
Seeding pots
Pot A: Netherlands, Spain, Serbia, France (holders), Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Montenegro
Pot B: England, Czechia, Norway, Ukraine, Switzerland, Wales, Germany, Israel
Pot C: Türkiye, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Poland, Cyprus, Scotland, Croatia, Latvia
Pot D: Iceland, Finland, Republic of Ireland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Albania, Northern Ireland, Belarus

Draw completed earlier: https://www.uefa.com/under17/news/0278-15f20d5f9734-8bb752a0a8e0-1000--elite-round-draw-made/
Group 1: Serbia, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus
Group 2: Montenegro, Wales, Scotland, Iceland
Group 3: Netherlands, England, Denmark, Northern Ireland
Group 4: Spain, Germany, Türkiye, Finland
Group 5: Portugal, Czechia, Poland, Slovakia
Group 6: Italy, Ukraine, Cyprus, Republic of Ireland
Group 7: Belgium, Norway, Croatia, Slovenia
Group 8: France (holders), Switzerland, Latvia, Albania
tough group, but the seven best runners up go through so still in with a good chance
Italy topped Group 8 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_UEFA_European_Under-17_Championship_qualification#Group_8) - beating Kosovo, Finland, and Greece
Ukraine topped Group 2 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_UEFA_European_Under-17_Championship_qualification#Group_2) - Beating Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein, and drawing with Bosnia and Herzegovina
Cyprus finished second in Group 11 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_UEFA_European_Under-17_Championship_qualification#Group_11) - beating Gibraltar and losing to Serbia. Russia were originally drawn in that group and were removed due to the invasion
Is the elite phase a home and away series?
edit: Says hosts TBD so assume it is like the U19s - one location, one game against each team...

Yeah, it's going to be held in Cyprus: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/uefa-draws-confirmed-for-u19s-u17s
The Ireland Under-17s beat Armenia and drew with both Belarus and Norway to reach the Elite Round, where they will meet Italy, Ukraine and Cyprus in Group 6, with Cyprus hosting the games.

We can come through that group for sure. But it is definitely tough. Looking at some of the other groups, you'd think ours will be one of the best runner-up spots.
Looking at the other groups and hands up, who’s surprised that Wales were the ones who got Montenegro as a top seed? They learn to be proxy *******s even from a young age.

Ike Orazi (no.15) is still only 15 or plays with the U16s I believe. Good to see Derbys McAndrew there as he looked tidy at the Victory Shield and a big ****er for his age too. If he fills out would be similar to Killian Phillips in build.

Shaun Wade, Gabriel Kelly, Anto Dodd the obvious absentees. Quite a few lads from the u16s involved:
Joe Collins
Ike Orazi
Mason Melia
Niall McAndrew
Kaylem Harnett

Either a sign of a very strong u16s or a weak u17s (for example last year was just one player, Kone-Doherty)

2-0 to Ireland 5 mins until half time.
Considering the Italian manager called Ireland an “Anglo-Saxon” side with all the players playing in England in fact only 4 out of 20 do probably shows you just how much research the Italian management put into this game ?

Romeo Akachukwu scored the first goal with the assist from Mason Melia, and Ize Orazi scored the second. Orazi is the U16s lad who assisted the winner the 1-0 win over in Hungary with some tasty dribbling that's posted further up the page by ifk101

not ideal considering Grante was injured in the warm up before the italy game. italy currently winning 2-1, so decent chance we could win the group

That more or less qualifies us for the u17 Euros just as long as we get a point versus Cyprus.

Was looking back and saw I posted this during the victory shield:
I watched the draw with Wales (on stream) yesterday.
We were the better side in the second half. First half was pretty end to end, Wales’ Tyler Myles was causing us all kinds of problems. But in the second half, we had about 5 chances to win it which we should have taken.
From an irish perspective, Ike Orazi was excellent. He’s raw but he’s very physically mature. He just went passed players with ease, was too fast and too strong. Serious potential, hard to tell at that age, how much is due to him being an early developer but really really exciting nonetheless.
Niall McAndrew was another one who is physically so advanced. Reminded me of Killian Phillips or Declan Rice playing underage.
Mason Melia missed an absolute sitter from a yard out but he did really well to get there, good movement and instincts. Held up the ball well throughout.
Joe Collins saved two excellent penalties. Didn’t have a lot to do in the game. Wind was hard to deal with, might have been a factor in the second goal. Not the tallest but he’s probably still growing
Kaylem Harnett was also pretty impressive. Voto, Murray and Moore all had their moments.
Interesting to see how we do against the north
Kinda impressed that the 5 lads i highlighted from that squad all made the jump up an age group and the 6th lad was one of the 3 i also mentioned.

I think we can't finish lower than second now.
Assuming a win in the final game on Monday, Italy would need to beat Ukraine by two goals more than we beat Cyprus to top the group.
