Back to starring for the B team again, now that big Ange got his statistics up to 2 B team player senior team appearances for the season. Who’s next for a token few minutes at the end of another dead rubber Scottish premier league game, Ben Quinn? State-of-the-art player development

I assume if they had better offers than Celtic they would take the better offers.

Why would they go to Celtic if they had better offers ?

Because a lot of Irish players still think Celtic is relevant club and big move when in reality it’s neither which the rest of the world already knows, hopefully we catch up some day.

I guess Celtic are good at negotiating and advertising a plan for a player that they know very well they won’t honor.

Well, I guess if you're eighteen and they show you the stadium, the trophy cabinet and a couple of videos of big European nights, your head might be turned

They are also known to pay well in terms of wages at that age group relative to other teams. If Celtic are offering a lad 4k a week and Hibs or Bolton or whoever are offering 1k, Hibs or Bolton is probably the better move for a player's career in terms of a route to first team football. But 4k a week is 200k a year and that, probably unsurprisingly, turns lads heads - and their parents' also.

When you think of the actual chances of actually making it at any club anywhere then it may well come in to consideration alright. Especially if you are from a poor family.

Needs to get himself first team football this season. Can't be stuck in that pub league which Celtic B play in.

Generally I hate the use of the term "Pub League" but in this case you are 100% right. Lawal has outgrown that now and needs proper mens football. IF hes not going to get a look in at 1st team level for Celtic then any loan would be good

Was always too good for that level. Watching some of their games last season and there were teams that looked worse than some junior teams here. Rangers have pulled their B team from that league after a vote for a new fifth tier conference league didn't happen.

Don't know whether Celtic are still entering a team but they can't be playing their best youth team prospects at that level. Have they ever tried partnering with a lower league team close to them and send a few players there each season on loan. Must be a handful of lower league teams in the Glasgow area.

Have to say I don't understand what the difference was between the Lowland League and the proposed new league.

Mix of Premier B teams and smaller regional sides in both I thought?

Rangers ditched their U19s a few years ago and thought they'd do better travelling Europe for friendlies instead. Wouldn't necessarily read too much into what they do on the development front

Seems some of the SPL teams didn't want the extra cost of B teams and the lower league teams don't want B teams in the SPFL leagues full stop. New league would have seen B teams allowed promotion to League 2 and lower league teams are against it.

They have sent Irish players to the two next biggest Glasgow clubs in recent years - O'Connor to Partick Thistle and Connell (repeatedly) to Queen's Park - without it doing much for their careers. Youth players there really need loans to other SPL teams, but the other SPL teams don't particularly rate the youth systems at the two Glasgow clubs (understandably), so tend to steer clear.

They'll take a squad player, like a Scales or Johnston, but rarely a youth player.

Lawal has signed a new contract at Celtic and is going on loan to EFL One side Fleetwood. The 'Cod Army' manager, Scott Brown, knows Lawal from his time at Celtic.

Similar to Lawal he won't get one unless he signs a new contract.

In Vata's case he might be better sitting it out this year and moving on next summer. Or even this summer as Celtic may take a small offer if he makes it clear he wants to move on. He's younger and can afford to play the game a bit.

Fleetwood boss Charlie Adam on Bosun Lawal:

“How he dribbles with the ball, his touches and passes - there are not many midfielders like that in the Championship in England.

“He has got a bright future. We will send a better player back than when he came in here.”

Going by transfermarkt CA has moved Lawal into midfield after his first game in charge and has started the last four games there.

It is worth noting that since Lawal has moved into midfield, Fleetwood seem to have improved significantly - including two good wins in their last two games.

Fleetwood did bring in quite a few players in January - including Gavin Kilkenny and Ronan Coughlan - but I think Lawal's influence is the key factor in the improvements.

Good sign that hes continued to do well in a struggling fleetwood team that has had three managers since start of season.

Praise of your technical abilities from charlie adam is very worthy, he was an excellent technician but somewhat limited athleticism

Should be the position that we play him in for Ireland too. Said it since the first U21s match he's wasted at CB. Think if we look at the U21s campaign so far he's played more balls or better balls into the final third for our attackers compared to our midfielders.

Gets a first half red card, two yellows... first was a "bad foul" while it sounds like the second was after a bit of a skirmish. Omochere (who i think got a red in the last game?) had scored anyway and they're 1 up.

This kid is a ball player - and is going to be playing far higher than L1 next season. He could be the anchor of the Irish team for a decade - and yes - he should be in the squad for the friendlies (along with Szmodics).

Well thankfully for us Charlie Adams finally saw sense and played him in his natural position after getting the job. Was full of praise for Lawal after his fifth game in charge.

There's something very encouraging about a manager speaking so highly of a player who is only in on loan.

Lost 4-1 in the end which sees them more or less relegated. Got another penalty in the second which Lawal took and missed.

They need to win their two remaining games and hope that the three teams above them finish with 43pt or less. Even then it comes down to goal difference or goals scored.

Two penalties missed by two different Irish players in the same game in England must be a new one surely? Sometimes I think our lads would have a higher conversion rate for bullet headers from corners than from penalties.

I think Lawal would be best served by a Championship loan. When I've seen him, I have felt he needs to work a little (like most midfielders tbf) on receiving the ball under pressure.

He can use his body to shield it and his power to get out of pressure but I think he needs a little time to work on receiving it as the touch can be off.

Otherwise, he has a good shot, fine pass, can dribble, has decent anticipation for a tackle or a block. He can be a fine player for club and country if he keeps developing.

If I'm right regarding the receipt of possession thing like I think I am, well it's a pity he hasn't been getting more exposure in midfield the last two years or so.

Celtic being linked with Charles Pickel. Plays as a DM for Serie B side Cremonese. Swiss underage international but plays for DR Congo at senior level.

Also while it might only be to train and filling in until Cullen returns from marrying Travers it's fantastic that Lawal was brought up. Shows that O'Shea views him as a midfielder also.

“He can pass a ball, be aggressive in there and, as he’s shown with Fleetwood on numerous occasions, he can score goals too.

“Where we’ve been playing him — centre-back — up until now, he’s been exceptional and I’ve had conversations with Darren O’Dea at Celtic and we share similar views on him, what he contributes to a team playing centre-back, with the game in front of him, he’s exceptional.

“I’m excited at the prospect of him playing in midfield.”

“Bosun is John’s [O’Shea] type of player. It’s going to be a really interesting season for him when he goes back to Celtic.

“I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will be interested in the boy’s qualities, so I do think that coming to this June camp will help him be ahead of the curve in fitness when he goes back to pre-season.”

Should maybe try playing him in midfield then.

Linked with Bournemouth, Stoke, and RB Salzburg according to Peter O'Rourke with Celtic open to both loan and permanent offers. Player is said to be open to leaving permanently too if he needs to for first team opportunities.

RB wouldn't be a bad move. Assume with the Red Bull clubs they've one big scouting department and would view Lawal as someone that could develop and move onto Leipzig or sold for a profit.

This is a month or so old, but it's a really interesting insight into the kind of player Lawal is. Comes with the caveat that everything here is from League 1 so standard of opposition needs to be taken into account.

But I'm not really seeing anyone else in the Irish setup right now in midfield who brings the same skillset as this lad in terms of size, strength and pace.

Looks like he could be exactly what we're needing in the centre of midfield and would likely suit a Hallgrimsson type of set up (quick counters and more direct play) rather than the slower, more technical stuff Kenny was fixated on.

Would like to see him given a chance at some point in the Nations League, even if he doesn't hit the ground running at club level next season.

I’m with you, Eirambler. I think he’s got all the pieces in his game to give our midfield a different dimension. Still a young guy and needs to be introduced in a sensible way but at a bare minimum needs to be called into squads regularly moving forward to see where he’s at.

I know people have been excited about Lawal and I see why but I struggle to get excited by any player that chooses to remain at Celtic as I fail to believe they can do so and be serious about their development as a player.

I mean for crying out loud, this club thought he was a defender!

Roger's latest comments had a smack of De Zerbi off them and really that should be a warning sign for Lawal to gtfo out of Celtic ASAP, he's been linked with Bournemouth, Stoke & RBS...all 3 would be superior and might actually develop Lawal into a better player.
