You not taking the Eircom League seriously at the moment then, or that Cup competition Derry trashed you in???

You are a complete and utter arrogant arsehole, I pity you and your heritage-less, history-less, root-less club.

The force is strong in this one. :)

Longford have underperformed in Europe especially at home. TNS will be even minnows to Longford. TNS is so small not even on the map ;)

Just out of interest, we're playing TNS in a friendly on Tuesday. Might give some indication as to what Longford are facing.

Of course were taking the league seriously, its just that we bought so many new players and its taking a while to jell. There seems a bit of a hangover from last season as well.

Your obviously a bitter man who is going to be very sore when Shels rip Glentoran apart. I wont be able to see the match unfortuntely as I will be away.

Jolly - Stop given Shels a worse name than they already have when you haven't even been to Tolka yet.

What matches have you been to? How did the match pan out? I'm pretty certain you've never been to Tolka.

Even worse, I don't feel anything for them ....

PS; we're taking carload to the match on Friday evening (just to check out these European galacticos).

Where would be the best place to sit? In with the likes of da jolly rodge or in with our fellow brits?

The Main stand(the one on the Richmond road) or ballybough end(the one with no roof) if it's a good day,Go down into the bar before and make yourselves known, they'll give youse a good welcome.

Cheers D2.

I understand some of you may be apprehensive about travelling up north for the first leg. There'll be a few of us starting early (shandies) on that day and if any of you guys fancy a pint or several, you'll be more than welcome.

We'll not be in any bars of, shall we say, a 'loyalist persuasion'.

Yes guys, hopefully a few make it up for a few pints before the game, you'll not get any hassle with us!

I shall hopefully be with Lux next week if all goes to plan, if we are in the home end we shall come down to the bar (probably not leave it :p ). Would I be ok in a Glentoran polo shirt or would we be better neutral?

shels can give glens the biggest monkeying they ever got in Europe and win both legs. We have a far better team and the summer league is a big advantage no doubt about it.

The N.I league is a poor cousin of the E.L (and thats saying something). Shels never took the Setanta Cup seriously but Europe means far more to Shels than any northern club.

Were you at the supporters meeting in Tolka last January ? Both Fenlon and the board confirmed they took the Setanta Cup very seriously and we did always play with our strongest line-up, even replaced few key players the week before the final in order to prevend injuries. Linfield beat us fair and square and were better than us, we must admit that. A good fan doesn't make up excuses like "we didn't take it seriously", a good fan is honest in defeat as well.

The NI league is not that much weaker, we will have a tough time in Belfast AND in Dublin.

I am moving to the UK within two weeks, and the company I will work for will either put me in Glasgow or... Belfast  Too bad the game is so soon or I may could walk to a European away game...

By jaysus what is this clown on about? There's scarcely another club on this island with more history and heritage than us, very few teams have had the highs and lows that we've had over the years.

There is no reason why Shells cant go through, they shouls ease past Glentoran, people are making it out to be a tougher tie than it really is.

Slash/ED
25/06/2005, 9:41 PM
I wouldn't say ease past, but we're favourites alright. If we can win our next two games then it'll be a sign that we're back on form, and Crowe is banging in the goals for us now. The big advantage will be Glentoran will be out of season, that will be a huge advantage espically as they're a part time team so will really feel the fitness coming into the later stage of the game imo.

The draw definitely could have been a hell of alot worse for us, I wanted to get a team that will be out of season and we've gotten that anyway.

jorge
25/06/2005, 9:53 PM
The only thing that will get yous past Steaua will be their complacency.

Slash/ED
25/06/2005, 10:16 PM
Steau are a team who last year beat Valencia in the UEFA cup, to beat them we'd have to be at our absolute best and they'd have to have an off day or two, no doubt about it. It's a tough draw and nobody would expect us to go through if we got there. Based on their UEFA cup form last year, they'll be difficult for any third round team they may face to beat nevermind us if we get there.

They lost to manure i think but they beat big teams in the UEFA Cup who else did they beat? I think one other was Lazio but im not sure.

Im not going to build up the likes of Glentoran up, when clearly they are nothing more than a part time outfit in a part time league with a big opinion of themselves.

Our club was founded in 1895 ffs. thats old enough.

anyway, i do rate Steaua and honestly i cant see us beating them. Shels can defintely improve a lot but were nowhere near as good as form as we were last season and Steaua are defintely a lot better than Spliit.

Having read the rest of your drivel, I'd like to echo Eirebhoy's call for you to shut up. I think Shels will win, but talk of hammering them is nonsense, and suggesting that Shels weren't taking the Setanta Cup seriously is laughable. You would have thought the Hibs result would have taught yez a little humility...

Does TJR even know about the hibs result I wonder?

TJR, stop talking shíte about the draw please. If you expect an easy win you'll have another thing coming.

It's the conventional late summer/early Autumn to May kind of league I think. Don't know exact dates. Steaua won the European Cup in the 1980's but that was under communist rule when the best players could not leave until their late 20's. After Celtic I think they are the only side to win the European Cup with an entirely homegrown team. Maybe Crvena Zvezda did as well, not sure.

The Zvezda had 10 players from countries which are now former Yugoslavia and a Romanian who sought asylum in Belgrade having left Ceausescu's Romania..... leaving Ceausescu to live under Milosevic... hmmmm nice judgement there Mr. Belodedici :)

Belodedici is an ethnic Serb, so his choice of destination was hardly that surprising.

Apart from Shels, Bohs, Rovers and maybe Cork (??) EL is a league composed of part-time clubs.

Linfield are a part-time outfit in that same part-time league. Still they beat us fair and square in the Setanta Cup.

If it were that easy that the team with most training hours always wins, it'd be very simple. Luckily, it doesn't work like that or football could become deadly boring. Glens have a very decent chance, I'd even say that if we don't win the next two league games confidence could be very low and then I give Glens at least 50% chance of proceeding. We should not be arrogant and downgrade Glentoran, underestimating is very dangerous.

And indeed, stating we didn't take the Setanta Cup serious is rubbish. We just were beaten by a stronger side, we must be honest enough to admit that and not make up excuses so weak we ridiculise ourselves. Any side would take the Setanta Cup serious with that amount of cash, Fenlon took it so serious he spared some key players the week before the final, the board stated clearly before the season that the Setanta Cup was important to the club, ...

Jolly's ignorance actually makes me angry, ban the fool.

If you are using $hels current form as a judge for your arrogant prediction then you will be very surprised. I really believe $hels are falling apart and wouldn't be surprised if Glens knocked them out however if they hit the form of last seaosn in the meantime then they will be expected to win over 2 legs.

Gerrit

Indeed. With our current form Glens are far from chanceless. We should build a statue for Dean Delaney tonight or we'd had lost another LOI game. Longford was better, we just had a superb goalie stopping everything coming in his direction.
