The best indicator of future performance is past performances.
Based on our performances against yugoslavia where Kennedy scored that screamer, I predict that we will win WC2034.

I agree. I'm still expecting Ian Harte to score that penalty against Spain and it affects every Ireland game I watch now.

I love that even with out fabled right back issue, they even blow us out of the water there. They have Cancelo, Cedric and Ricardo Pereira to chose from.

Indeed, our current first choice didn't make the Tottenham bench at the weekend.

Portugal beat Azerbaijan only 1-0, and it was an own goal: I hope they are on that kind of form when they play us!

Peppered the goal but actually could have easily conceded an equaliser late on. The own goal was a mess between the goalkeeper and defender dealing with a pretty harmless looking cross.

Keeper was appalling in the first half and inspired in the second. Must have been some half-time orange!

He took a bad knock in the first half I think, having flicked over I'd actually thought he'd gone off injured, but seemingly not.

And Luxembourg 1-0 the other day. They'll be a useful test for us, though we could really use some whipping boys right now for a moral boost.

Portugal robbed in the last seconds in Serbia last night with Ronaldo having a goal not given and then walking off the pitch in a trademark petulant huff.
Serbia's second was a lovely team goal. These two seem streets ahead of the rest, though they've only recorded one-goal wins so far

Did the Portuguese bring on a sub for Ronaldo or was the game actually finished. In fairness the ball was well over the line. Was there No Russian Linesman available ?

Didn't think Serbia were streets ahead of us last Wednesday to be fair. Beat us as you'd expect but it was a pretty competitive game.
Qatar beat Azerbaijan 2-1 today
Azerbaijan made 10 changes to the team that played in Turin and will be fresh for Tuesday's game. I think a trip to Baku is the last thing Serbia need after 2 full on games v Portugal and Ireland in 3 days. It's anything but a slam dunk.

There were about ten seconds to go and the next break in play was full-time.
It wasn't well over the line, but it was a goal. It seems Ronaldo himself might have been in the linesman's line of sight. Which raises the question as to where the fifth official was? Or are they gone now?

I thought technically they were way ahead of us, but yeah, they didn't really create a huge amount, though I thought they had another gear they didn't find. I think we were a bit flattered to score twice because we created very little really. I wouldn't be surprised to see Serbia/Portugal beat everyone else home and away.

Jeez a justified huff to be fair. Whatever about the mad VAR situation, it ridiculous that they don't have goalline technology for matches of this importance, not to mention Ronaldo's individual mission in chasing down Ali Daei's goal record. That probably upset him more than the two dropped points. :)

I think you don't get to be as good as Ronaldo has been without the two points dropped absolutely galling you.

My theory of Serbia struggling in Baku already out the window. Serbia 1-0 up after 15 mins thanks to Mitrovic who has scored as many goals this week for Serbia (4) as any Irish player has for the last 4 years.
Mitro is some goal machine in a Serbian shirt in fairness to him. Tadic with the assist again.
luxembourg 1 up v portgual.

The league of Ireland should be taken off the fai. They dont want it and it shows. Set up a domestic league board and fund them property at government level. I mean millions. Literally multiple of millions . No sane minister would give the fai the end of their cigarette. But a new unconnected non criminal entity would be worth the investment

On the tannoy in Lansdowne after the last game, they announced that they were going on sale today. No sign though. Possibly delayed because of the government announcement
