So a big win in the 80s derby as the 86/87 kit wins 8-1.
Votes still open in the 2000/01 v Euro 88 kit clash, but next up, it's a 90s derby. (I won't normally do this on weekends as traffic does be slower, but with a match on tonight I figure there'll be a few around)
First up is the original Mick kit -
https://img2.thejournal.ie/inline/4557091/original/?width=428&version=4557091
And it's up against one of our shortest-lived kits, the 1994 World Cup one -

88 and 94 no question. Maybe the tournament jerseys are just iconic anyway but I didn't like the 00-01 jersey at all, just too shapeless and the Mick shirt has too much going on.

This one for me, in spite of those ludicrously big sleeves making it look suspiciously like Houghton was remotely operating Paul McGrath after discovering he'd gotten into the alcohol-based sleep medication.

I’ll go for 1994 but I do like that Roy Keane one, other than the weird backward FAI shading in the jersey

1994 is a cult classic. Not a template, and the little tricolour on the sleeve was superb.

Euro 88 by far. I never really liked it as a young lad but have a had a renewed appreciation as I've gotten older.

Unreal set of kits that. Away was nicer tbf. But much better than that second umbro kit.

Torn on this one. There's more to like overall on the '94WC jersey, but the collar looks like a St Patrick's Day rosette you'd slap on a a child going out to play the tin whistle in the town parade. The eyes just keep turning towards it.
I really like the sleeve on the Mick kit - I think there's something about a kit that squares off the shoulders and makes the wearer look more aggressive, and that's steered some of my earlier votes - but it looks like graffiti on the front. More Mick woz ere than Banksy, unfortunately.
So... '94, no MickKittie's, no...
Alright: '94.

Another result in - 1988/90 10-3 2000/01.
Usual story re the 90s derby - votes still taken as we move on to a real generation gap now. First up, the 2018/19 kit, the one before the current one -

And it's up against the oldest kit in the tournament, this effort from 1976-78 -

76/78. It's old-fashioned, but at least it's not exactly the only shade of green I don't associate with Ireland. That 18/19 strip looks like someone tried to talk the design team around to fluorescent green and settled on a compromise.

A big win there for the USA 94 kit - 11-0 against the 96-98 kit which does, for my view, have just that little bit too much going on with it. Which makes the result 12-0. :)
While I think of it, I'll go against the crowd and cast a vote for the 2018-19 kit. I generally don't like the modern kits, but the green in that photo isn't as bad as other recent greens, and I'm not all gone on the 76 kit.
But votes still taken there, while we finish off round 1 with two final ties. First up is another derby. It's the kit that got is to Euro 2016 -
https://m0.sportsjoe.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/20173245/2014.jpg
- against the kit we wore at Euro 2016 -
https://cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/160613140623-07-ireland-sweden-euro-2016-super-169.jpg
These two ties will run into tomorrow, and then Wednesday will be repechage day. That'll leave three kits still to be revealed in in the final 16 as they got byes through this round.

I think I'd go 18-19 too, it a decent enough strip even with the slightly odd shade of green and the use of gold.
Euro qualifiers versus tournament might be the toughest so far. Both solid kits, but i think the tournament kit just edges it, I like the little flashes of orange, and the double shade of green sashing is not too bad.

Euro16 tournament kit by a country mile. Much the same toxic green on the qualifying shirt that I objected to in the 18/19 kit, a clashing green in the shorts, and the solid white collar looks like it was ripped off a dress shirt.

I like both a lot but for me it's the EURO 2016 kit. The only thing I didn't like about that kit was that the orange was luminous, which seemed to be a (rather crass) trend in that tournament.

There was a curious shirt worn during the Hand era, against either Denmark or Norway. It was a home game, and just worn once, as far as I can recall.
The best description I can give, is that it resembled a Kerry GAA shirt. Think we wore orange socks the same day.
I have no photo of it, and mention it only out of interest. It's doubtful anyone would vote for it!

Yes, that's the one worn against Norway. I couldn't find a photo of either, which is the only reason it didn't make it into this comp. It's reproduced here (http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/international/republic-ireland/republic-ireland-1978-1994.html) (though the picture won't link for some reason)

I'll have to go with the qualifier kit.
While I always like our shirts to have some sort of orange trim, the fact that it was luminous took it away from it.

The fightback for the 2018-19 kit was too little too late, and 1976-78 goes through on a score of 6-3.
The 2010s derby match still open, and meanwhile it's time for the last pairing of round 1. First up, it's time for more hooped socks, this time from 2010-12 -
https://img.rasset.ie/0003c776-1600.jpg
And it's up against a quiet little effort modelled here by Alan McLoughlin - the Euro 96 qualifying kit.

2010-2012. Beautiful kit. Felt like a real throwback. Loved the hooped socks too. And I think it was the first time the team started using the word Éire on their kit. Open to correction on that though.
Never understood the design of that 96 one. Looked like a waistcoat in the design.

You absolute...
I was wondering when the 1995/96 shirt was gonna rear its head. Was our first umbro shirt and I loved it. First Ireland shirt I ever got.
And now I have to pick between that and possibly my favourite shirt.
Because of foot.ie I managed to bag one of our 2010/12 shirts without a sponsor in some spurious sorts warehouse in Milton Keynes or some other godawful place.
It remains my favourite piece of clothing I own. Sports related or otherwise. It was perfect. Umbro were on fire at that point.
It's the clear inspiration for our current home kit. We better be wearing it on Wednesday night.
2010/12 it is.

Ha! The luck of the draw.
If it helps, I'll vote for 95/96. The socks ruin the 2010-12 one for me. Others have mentioned it, but I can't look past it to be honest.
Also, I like a little bit of subtle something on the jerseys. First one I got was the 1994 one which is a cracking jersey and has just a little bit going on in the green. Ditto the 1995/96 one. (The Mick 96-98 one though goes too far)
So I'll vote 95/96.

Damn these votes have moved fast. I've missed loads
I think there are only two match ups left open:
14-15 v Euro 16 finals - not a lover of either shirt tbh, but unlike many here i really didn't like the tournament shirt, so i vote for the Shane Long qualifier 14-15 effort
10/12 v 94/95 - in a dark corner of my mind i remember an umbro advert in my Shoot! magazine when the new shirt was (surprisingly, given we hadn't had the USA 94 shirt long) launched, which had either Niall Quinn or a Quinn lookalike standing next to a guy in a Brazil shirt, with quotes of something like "Why did Brazil win the world cup instead of us? They had the better shirts!".... Even in my early teens i thought that was pretty ****e marketing.
Anyway, like many here i think the 10/12 shirt is one of our best ever, love it, and easily gets my vote.

Dougal against Trap is the last bout left, and will be open until this evening. Then repechage on tomorrow to rescue one of the 13 kits dumped out so far.
