Big push in the last 20 minutes now for the equalizer. Not a bad performance but lack of penetration is soul destroying. Another big chance vs Bulgaria to get the elusive win!

I definitely think that Idah's task is made far more difficult by the choice of players on either side of him. McClean has hugged the touchline. Horgan was doing likewise. It is very difficult for Idah when he is constantly occupied by two centre halves.

Hendrick has no leadership at all, cant be the senior midfielder.
The goal was a DOUBT between the goalie and 17, 17 thought Randy would get it didnt follow his man Brooks
Anyway the goal was a foul by Kieffer Moore on Long

I find it funny that people question whether Byrne is at the level for Ireland. Compare his impact here to that of Hourihane, the Premiership player. When Hourihane passed the ball on the one two out over the line there I almost cried.

That looked like a handball by the Welsh lad next to the post. Sky only just put the replay on.
Collins offered more in that cameo spell than Idah has for the last 2 games.

It was stupid and completely unaware but that's an over-reaction I think.

Still took the wrong decision a couple of times. Tame shot at the keeper when Doherty was on his right and O'Dowda to his left.

They haven't conceded a goal in, what, 9 hours of competitive play? I think they're not that bad.

That was DEFINITELY a handball on James off the corner at the near post. Should have been a penalty.
Still, Jack Byrne really let us down with that pass there. I wouldn't have him near the squad until he has learned how to measure passes correctly. Very poor there.

Absolutely. Daft comments. Byrne added a bit of spice and showed why he's worth his squad inclusion, and also got Hendrick sent off and showed his limitations.
Another frustrating game, but the bottom line still is that, England aside, we've been competitive in all our games but we just don't have a forward worthy of the name. If we had any threat at all up front, Kenny would be on about 50% (plus the England game - which probably wouldn't have happened as we'd have beaten Slovakia)
No easy answers here - we just have to hope that some of the promising young players turn into decent players.

But he did shoot. He looked a limited player - poor decision making as you say - but he might be useful enough. It's not like he's behind Ronaldo and Messi.

For a team that is trying to play a passing game we give the ball away an awful lot. Makes it needlessly difficult. Kenny needs to address that as much as the failures up front if his style is to be a success.
Can't fault the team for effort.

8 clean sheets in their last 9 games (plus a 3-0 defeat to England)
Given our striking problems, 0 was probably a good score for us.

Not really, though it's not like Wales seemed to have their backs to the wall at the end either. We could use another gear. I'd settle for the first one finding some teeth, mind you.

Yeah, sorry, not trying to clog the thread with negativity, I'm just very frustrated that a player with such poor passing judgement was allowed to play for us. I suppose we don't have a whole lot of other options. I honestly think that was one of, if not the, single biggest mistakes I've ever seen at international level.

I think the fighting spirit is still there, just a lack of quality. My only takeaway is that I’d like to see Collins play a full 90 in Kenny’s system. From his off the ball movement, to his physicality, Collins just seems more battle hardened. I’d play him vs Bulgaria on Wednesday and see what he’s got.
Not saying Idah has no role to play in WCQ but doesn’t seem fully where we need him to be.

We keep the ball for 30 or 40 seconds and whether it's Stephen Ward or Kenny Cunningham, you would swear that Stephen Kenny is trying to implement total football.
Teams like Luxemburg do that and can actually play penetrating football. Meanwhile, our best chance of a goal is the usual Duffy header. Horrendous to watch and I see nothing from Kenny that impresses me.
If Kenny really wants to change the culture then he should be clearing the decks of dross like McClean and several others.
As I've said before, I can take the likes of Idah or Molumby being ineffective. They are the future for us. The McCleans are the past and not a past that I look back on with any fondness.
Lets use the next two years as a chance for the young players to become seasoned internationals. We haven't a prayer of getting to Qatar but if they get to that point then I will be happy. Kenny will earn my respect for trying to be brave for the future (like countries like Belgium did).
