Daryl Horgan the first name on the team-sheet now.

Cullen fails to make the matchday squad which is shame.

Conversely, it's a strong-looking Wales side. I fear another very difficult evening lies in store...

But suppose it highlights the poor squad we have presently and how stretched we far with injuries/covid
That's exactly how I see it too.

Actually they’re in relegation zone in championship! My bad! But still don’t understand his selection.

Just like McClean last season then

if it's a 4-3-3, Molumby and Hendrick are going to be run into the ground in the midfield

At least Hourihane has been given the boot. That’s a good start.

and o'dowda. interesting how Horgan didn't get in the squad before and now is starting.

he's sticking with idah too. I know options are limited of course.

Really odd selection. A decade on the repeated selection of Daryl Horgan is giving me flashbacks to Stan's dedication to Alan O'Brien!

I fear we're going to be hockeyed tonight.

Hes right to stick with Idah, at least he will develop. No point in putting in someone like Collins who is just a journeyman and will never have a chance of being a top player

Really odd selection.

I don't think it's that odd. O'Dowda, Hourihane and Christie I don't think can complain about being dropped. Browne and Egan of course are unavailable. Other than that, it's quite reasonable given that, again, we have no decent players.

While I'm not a huge Horgan fan, he's way better than Alan O'Brien.

As opposed to O'Dowda, who has been repeatedly criticised here, or Curtis? Kenny is dealing from a pretty ****ty deck and Stan just wasn't.

Jesus lads, I cant believe I the one defending Horgan here, Ive said in the past that I dont think hes good enough, but he was one of the best of a bad bunch on Wednesday and with the squad being weakened as it is he has earned his place.

Can I mention one thing that some have argued for here, in Kenny's defence?
Everyone in the squad - Byrne excepted, sorry Stutts :-) - has a chance of starting a game. How often have we had players come in as replacements and never been within an asses roar of starting- yet under Kenny it's happened a few times. That's got to be a positive, and a far removal from the ludicrous 40 man initial squads that were insulting and stupid to all concerned.

I didn't see the game - assumed it would be on playback on the player (how wrong I was) - but I've liked Horgan coming off the bench. That said, if the only alternative is ODowda, who only seems capable of cutting inside, then Horgan deserves a chance to start.

I thought Horgan was one of the better players from midweek.

I just want a higher tempo tonight and to mix it up a little.

Hasn't been a bad start. Fairly calm in possession. Some heavy touches in their third of the pitch which shouldn't be happening at this level.

Idah been very poor so far

shakermaker1982

First time Idah was able to able to run into a bit of space and Rodon made a cracking recovery tackle. Great ball by Brady,

Idah been very poor so far

I think that is harsh, he has been a danger in behind some of his lay offs a little sloppy but some of them have been very clever. He is very light but he will bulk out

His touch has generally been bad

Depressing game as expected. Agree Idah poor, it’s still a year or two too early for him as stated previously. He badly needs proper game time. RLP’s man is ok, lost ball badly a couple of times but did well on occasion. O’Shea has been loose and casual surprisingly. No real standouts for me. At least we are still in it I suppose

Yeah, that was my take-away from the first half too. Idah's touch has been poor, and Brady really should have done better with his two chances instead of skying them over. Sums up our goal threat again. Defensively we seem fine and it'll probably be decided by one goal (if we even get that)

shakermaker1982
15/11/2020, 4:54 PM
That was a decent first half. It has helped that the midfield are much more proactive this evening and have looked to go forward whenever possible (No Hourihane helps).

Also more urgency in the press which has won us the ball in good positions.

Randolph and Duffy have gone long a few times this evening but mixing it up like this gives the Welsh press something to think about. Small details like this are a positive sign.

Idah should really be playing more aggressively for a lad of his size. He's the same height as Andy Carroll but the way he plays is on the timid side. He needs to use his physical advantage more when pressing defenders.

backstothewall

I think Idah needs support. He took the ball through from Brady well but he needed someone making a run for him to lay it off to. It was a good tackle to deny him but there was another defender covering. It would have been wonder goal territory to score on his own.

The thing with Idah is that he looks so cumbersome at times but I've seen him show ridiculous skill. I still think there's more to be gained by sticking with him but he needs to pick it up.

This is one of my concerns with Kenny’s system which I noted with under 21s too. The lone forward gets isolated all too often.

A better showing so far but lacking the cutting edge. Idah needs to bulk up a bit and work on his hold up play. He looks lightweight but I think the issue is just as much about body positioning as it is anything else. Needs to learn how to shield the ball.

I’ve always been skeptical of Horgan but generally I’m pleasantly surprised. He regularly beats his man and always gets a few dangerous balls into the box. Not a star but better than many here give him credit for.

Brady miles better than Hourihane centrally. Creates chances and willing to take a shot when it’s on offer — suspect he would have scored had he been playing more at club level. Molumby gives our midfield some balls. Hopefully we can push on and get a goal now.

We have a chance here. Much depends on how Kenny uses his bench. Knight, Curtis and Byrne would be three that could cause this Welsh side bother. They are not great and we could use a bit of variety in our attack (again).

JimEire123

Kenny needs to be given the next campaign to get his squad playing how he wants. We may be on a bad run and have been many times before and changed manager which only gives short term change. Stick with him and see if he can get us to 2022.

Brady should have had a go there rather than trying to slip a ball into the box.

I get that we're trying to play a passing game, but the only time we look like scoring is off a set piece from Robbie Brady.

***** sake. Despite being the better team, the lack of a cutting edge means all it takes is one chance and it’s back to Groundhog Day.

Brady has put in decent set pieces but there has to be more variety from Kenny than that exact same free kick from the middle of the pitch that we have seen 3 times today

But we are bringing on Hourihane. Hmmm.
