Oh God, why couldn't there be an ignore thread button?

Yeah seriously. It's really annoying when the UCD section appears as having new posts in it when it's only this bloody thread.

Most of our strikers couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo and you wonder why I am gloomy about our prospects ?
Quality brace from Podge tonight to lift us into the top half...still depressed? I think this is going to be a good season!

Oh, the irony of decrying the stats thread by posting a stat in it!!!

I actually think this is an interesting thread. If only we could get a LSC and First Division Shield record...?

Complete FAI Cup Record 1934 To Date
Only noticed this now - didn't we compete in the 1922 FAI Cup as well? First Round defeat to Shamrock Rovers, I think?

Yes but we were both Non-League so it was so far in the Preliminaries as not to be consistent with the latter stages which the first qualification in the 1930's was when we drew a League side. By the way Rovers beat us 6-2 according to The Hoops by Robert Goggins and Paul Doolan ( no not that one!)

So it wasn't in the First Round proper then? Was it akin to the First Round nowadays, or more like the First Qualifying Round in the FA Cup?

Yes something along those lines the game took place as I understand it in late November 1921. The League clubs didn't enter the Cup until January 1922.

Patrick Kavanagh joined UCD from Wayside. Made his Under 21 debut on Saturday and scored against St.Pat's. Made his first team debut against Waterford United and scored. 2 goals in 2 games makes him one of the fastest scoring debutants.

CTID, can you do me a favour, if you get the chance? I need to know the years Barry Ryan, Anto Murphy and Kevin Grogan played for you and their aggregate league appearances (and goals if any). No hassle if you can't. Apologies if its in the thread and I'm too lazy to search

pineapple stu

You can find details on www.stigonline.com - downloadable appearances chart in Excel.

Anto played in 2004 and 2005. Bazza played from 1997 to 2003 (I think). Kev played from 2000 to 2002.

pineapple stu

Not sure how it downloads, but if you save it as an Excel file, open it and then print preview (or print), there's a header showing the competitions. I think tabs are in the order - total appearances, league appearances, FAI Cup, League Cup, Leinster Senior Cup, Europe, other.

Dodge
31/07/2006, 1:28 PM
Ah FFS didn't see the tabs (and I work with spreadsheets pretty much all day!)

Thanks stu. Just one thing. The header says as at 01/01/05. Any chance of Anto's appearances and goals from 05 season

Our goal shy tendencies are legendary.
Not only have we kept 12 clean sheets in the League,College have failed to score on 16 occasions this season in the League.

Compare and contrast the away record for the past two seasons

P W D L GF GA PTS GD PERCENTAGE POINTS
2005 17 3 5 9 11 20 14 -9 27.451%
2006 14 3 5 6 5 14 15 -9 35.7143%

We must be the only team to score 6 fewer goals away from home and pick up extra points this season :D

Our Aggregate away record now looks like this

PLAYED WON DREW LOST GOALS FOR AGAINST POINTS GOAL DIFFERENCE POINTS GAINED
412 115 124 173 389 520 434 -131 39.8531%

Poor Student

In spite of less games we've heavily slashed our goals conceded column and we haven't scored that much less goals than last season, again number of games taken into account.

CollegeTillIDie

Next Friday's game against Longford Town will be our 412th Home game and may well be our last at Belfield Park.

The Record currently looks like this (League only)

PLAYED WON DREW LOST GOALS FOR AGAINST POINTS GOAL DIFFERENCE POINTS GAINED
411 157 120 134 553 470 530 83 49.34823%

So for UCD there is a slight home advantage.

I agree on the conceding fewer goals being significant. But Poor Student only 3 fewer games, less than half the number of goals scored?

2005 Goals scored Away( League) 11
2006 Goals scored Away (League) 5

Word around the grapevine is we could start off next season at Belfield Park.

On the goals issue, what's half of nothing?;)

Does anyone know where to get season by season stats(League Only) from UCD players past and present, as I want to update some players from UCD on a site that I am working with at the moment as I am missing a lot of stats from UCD players.

There's a certain amount of it on Stigonline: http://stigonline.com/ucd/appearances.xls
Only up to the end of last season, I think. Pineapple Stu would have more up to date info if you need it.

Actually, if you get more data than is in that (particularly older stuff), could you let him know?
