It depends on whether or not you include Dublin City apparently. 299 without, 300 with.

I've no stats for the Leinster Senior Cup.

Everyone was saying last night that his official 300th appearance will be his next game, CTID.
Who's everyone?

Hooper said that Tony said that Pats was his 300th, but I may have picked that up wrong.

Me or CTID. What you looking for?

At the minute, not a whole lot against UCD, but will probably be back in the future.

The one game I'm missing is a 1-1 draw at Belfield on 29/11/92. I have everything bar who the two Town subs, Donal Golden and Eamon Gavin, replace.

Your best bet might be an old issue of the Soccer Magazine. I have a book( one of a series of 4) which was produced by two Cork guys, which had line-ups from every league game played between 1990/91 and 1993/94 which I will double check for you. I was keeping stats on who played but not which players the sub replaced. I can confirm that Gavin and Golden came on from my own records but not who they replaced.

Does anyone have a list of players that have scored a hat-trick for the club? Willie Doyle is one that I know, presumably Mick O'Byrne. Who else?

pineapple stu
28/09/2007, 1:15 PM
I have a collection of such trivia which I intend putting up on STIGonline some day, includnig hat-tricks.

Paul Cullen got four in the Cup against Bluebell once. David Cassidy also got four against Shels in '79. Hat-tricks include Robbie Martin in Monaghan, Jason Sherlock in Derry, Seán Finn against Drogheda, Willie Doyle as noted, Andy Myler against Limerick/Harps (can't remember which) and a few others too.

Edit - forgot the most legendary of all, Ken Kilmurray v Bluebell in the League Cup! :o

Also Peter Hanrahan v St Francis in the League Cup the previous season.

The Myler debate was over which of the two he scored a hat trick against when it turned out the answer was both.

The Limerick one was before my time but the Harps hat-trick came in the Premier Divison at home in a 4-0. Mick O'Byrne scored the opener before going off injured and was never the same player again. Myler scored 2 penalties and an audacious lob from halfway, the day after David Beckham did the same thing against Wimbledon.

I've been told in the past that one of the Limerick goals was similar but only have vague anecdotal memory to support that and could easily be confused. I'm sure CTID can clear up the matter.

Summary of F.A.I. Cup Results ( up to end of Quarter-final 2007)
Played 83 Won 29 Drew 23 Lost 31 Goals For 116 Goals Against 88

The draws includes a (6-7) penalty defeat, which finished 0-0 a.e.t..

A better record than the League Cup for a variety of reasons. We won a higher % of the games actually won the thing and have reached the Quarter-final on 8 occasions!

Our consolation goal away to Sligo was our 400th League goal away from home. Our 0-0 draw against Derry was our 128th League draw away from home. We have now drawn more games away than at home. Our home draws stand at 125 and as we only have two games at home remaining, it will be more away draws in total at the end of the season too.

CollegeTillIDie
13/10/2007, 8:05 AM
We are two points away from our 1,000th League point folks . Currently on 998 points since 1979!

The points systems were as follows :- 1979/80, 1980/81,1983/84-1991/92 inclusive 2 points for a win 1 point for a draw
1981/82 Home win 3 points Home draw 1 Away win 4 points Away draw 2 points ( Abandoned after 1 season)
1982/83, ( The League was effectively over half way through the season as eventual champions Athlone were so far ahead they reverted to 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw for 1983/84) 1992/93 to date 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw

The only game Conor Sammon failed to score in proved our undoing in this season's Cup run. Losing a semi-final is the worst experience in the world. At least losing a cup final the players get a medal and you had the big occasion to experience. I'd prefer to go out in Round 1 than lose the semi-final.

Gates are shared, and the away club doesn't have any hosting costs to deal with, so away Cup games - especially against the likes of Dundalk and Derry - probably make us money.

Thanks for the post - talented yes but by and large very young. Most of our squad is under 21 eligible and half of our main side dip in and out of the under 21 team.

If we keep them all we will have a super side in 2 / 3 years but the guys are young and gainign experience.

The team switched off after beating Derry in the Cup semi and beating Waterford in the league. Didn't expect Waterford, Galway and Longford to go on a a cumulative run of one defeat in 16. A lot stronger than our league position, but seems to be a - dare I say it? - lack of professionalism in the past few weeks.

Okay at the risk of getting nerdy

Our win percentage overall is 32.6721%
Our draw percentage overall is 29.6383%
Our loss percentage overall is 37.6896%

At the end of next season we will have played 890 League games
So using the average percentage from 1979-2007 and projecting forward, if we had just an average campaign we would have a total of 291 wins 264 draws and 335 defeats at the end of next season. We will have 1014 average goals scored based on a goal per game average scored of 1.138856 and we will have 1075 goals conceded based on an average goals conceded per game of 1.207701.

So if we have a 33 game season we will have won 11 drawn 10 and lost 12 scored 38 and conceded 40 which would earn us 43 league points which might not be enough to avoid the drop given three teams will go down next year. And given we didn't manage even an average season in 2007 who knows?

Given that I was looking at fourth bottom, we're now looking at about 38 points as the highest anyone's finished in tenth with. Ever. If we get 43 points - which, again, had Sligo in sixth this year - we'll be fine.

There is indeed a first time for everything; I reckon we'll need 99 points next year to stay up.
