On a side note, Shawcross was stretchered off today for stoke city. Out for a prolonged period of time by the looks of it. Suddenly the path looks clearer for Collins although they still have multiple center back options. Of note, Lindsay is suspended for their opening game vs QPR, so Collins has an excellent chance of starting

The talk on Nolan was that he was looking for a permanent move away, even to the Championship. Nothing appears to have materialised so far and havent seen his name crop up.

Crowley starting today on what is their last preseason friendly I think against Brighton with no sign of Connolly involved for Brighton. Has Connolly played much for Brighton in pre season? Be great if he got loan you forget he is very young and should have been at the 19s euros

For all our talk about our teenage strikers, our most potent goal threat right now appears to be Shane Duffy, who helped himself to a brace - perhaps we should stick him up front and play hoofball :D - https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/2019/july/match-report-for-birmingham-city-vs-brighton-and-hove-albion-on-27-jul-19/

Hourihane and Hogan both featured for Villa against Charlton - Mick seems to think Hogan is still an option, so let's hope he can get some game time: https://www.avfc.co.uk/Fixtures/2010%20to%202019/2018-2019/English%20Football%20League%20-%20Championship/Aston%20Villa%20vs%20Derby%20Play%20Offs?matchrepo rt=1

Long and Hendrick were second-half subs for Burnley against Wigan: https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/news/2019/july/match-report-for-wigan-athletic-vs-burnley-football-club-on-27-jul-19/

Joshua Kayode was a second-half sub for Rotherham against what looks like Leicester's second string: https://www.themillers.co.uk/news/2019/july/match-report-for-rotherham-united-vs-leicester-city-on-27-jul-19/

Cullen was a late sub for West Ham: https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/july/27-july/super-lanzini-strike-secures-hammers-victory-fulham

The disappointing thing is that his agent company is that UK based Rio Ferdinand company who are likely encouraging him to come to England in order to optimize his chances of international soccer, and thus boost his profile. They are clearly the “source close to the player.” He’s better off staying on continent and developing. If he’s not loaned to a serie B/C team by now, then the story is accurate on the fact that his time at Inter is up.

Smallbone named among the substitutes as well, and Kelly is on the bench for Feyenoord
It's free to watch on Southampton's website if you're in the UK, there's streams online from the usual spots

<EDIT>

All three Southampton players came on at half time, Kelly just came on for Feyenoord

Ryan Manning looks like he's consolidated his position at QPR, playing the full 90 against Watford on Monday - Olamide Shodipo came on after 60 minutes

Thought Luca Connell might get a run out tonight for Celtic given that they're 5-0 up after the first leg. Not even on the bench despite a load of changes being made to the team. They're home to St Johnstone on Saturday, if he's not in that squad either it's probably a sign that he won't be playing much for Celtic in the next few months. Could do without him being stuck in a reserve team that don't have a reserve league to play in - Coffey and Okoflex are in the same situation, terrible for their development.

Idah on in 86th minute vs Atlanta. Would expect him to see some prem league action this side of Christmas judging by his preseason

Lads, are the odds not better than 50/50 that 3 teenage Irish strikers appear in the Premier League before Christmas? I would say the combined chances of Parrott, Idah and Obafemi are very strong. That's leaving out Afolabi (depending on the club he lands at) and Connolly (hasn't been getting much game time with the first team this pre season).

Johansson is a tidy footballer. From the small bits Ive seen he looks good in possession. Big lad too, we need to get him involved soon.

Decent hour on the field for Johannson, very tidy in possession, had some nice touches, he keeps the ball and links play well. Certainly didn't look out of place tonight.

On the negative side he's not the quickest around the park and doesn't seem to have too much of a defensive side to his game.

I'm probably a traditionalist in that I like my Irish internationals hareing around the park like lunatics - he's definitely not that kind of player but he looks like someone who could do well once he fills out a bit and adds a bit more to his game.

I cannot remember a more positive pre-season for young Irish players. Most good international football teams have 3-4 very good players, we may soon have the same. Could we have a more talented group than that which broke through prior to the 2002 World Cup?

Its very early to say but of the current crop you would hope at least a handful turn out to be top quality premiership footballers. At present it would be hard to argue that both Parrott and Obafemi can't establish themselves as regulars at their respective Premiership clubs if they can stay injury free. Both look top class. Molumby looks to have all the attributes of being a top player but he now needs a good season at Millwall to prove it and kick on. Crowley the same at Birmingham.

Of the rest I'd think Connolly has had a disappointing pre-season and he needs a loan and some game time before we really know how good he can be. Idah has potential but looks raw, again a loan is probably his best option. Alofabi has talent but needs to pick a club where he will get some game time. Luca Connell is still young but I personally think going to Celtic was not in his best interests. He would be better served developing his talent in a more competitive league against stronger opposition. Knight will likely be floating around the subs bench for Derby at the start of the season so let's see if he can soon make a claim for a starting place. Nathan Collins has time on his hands but you would expect he will get some more first team action this season even if it's not at Stoke. O'Shea will get some game time at West Brom this year but is unlikely to be starter when the season kicks off. Masterson is unlikely to start the season near the QPR first team but maybe he can force his way into the team as the year progresses.

Connolly on the bench for Brighton tonight.

Watched a lot of the 2nd half and he didnt get on. Duffy scored again.

Connolly will need a loan. Very very harsh of me to say about a young guy, but his social media all summer wouldnt fill me with a huge amount of confidence about his professionalism. Just a gut feeling and I hope Im wrong but I have my doubts about him.

On the other hand, it amazes me that no big club has come in for Duffy. If he was English he would get a move to United probably. Arsenal need a defender badly and I would snap him up if I was them

It won't be Duffy, lads. If any club in England has a choice between an Irish international and an English international they'll go for the latter, and they'll pay more for the privilege. It's just the way it is.

Think he came off the bench once in their last ten or so league games, no ? Might be wrong.
