Adam McDonnell is there too. Seems to be getting plenty games under his belt and his still just 21.

Actually had a look at their Wikipedia page and Shamir Fenelon is there, as well as a young lad called Dominic Bernard who is on loan from Birninghan- can't say I know that lad.

Well, I guess he's getting first-team football but I would have hoped he'd be higher up the ladder, given his recent run of form at U23 level.

Also, along with Aaron Connolly's brace, which is noted in his own thread, Jason Knight came on as a sub and scored two minutes later in Derby's 5-0 victory over Arsenal - still only 17: https://www.premierleague.com/match/39225/premier-league-2/2018-19/derby-v-arsenal

Interesting to see Tormey on bench for arsenal played for us at under 16 but seems to have had a few years of injuries. Is young enough for our 19s I think

FAI really has to make move to bring Ryan Nolan in. Absurd he is not at least involved with the U-21 team.

A respected source said that he wasn't outstanding today. Not criticising, just saying. Obviously he's no mug played for Inter 19s, but he might not be all that, just yet.

Regardless of what he eventually becomes, I think it's worth it to at least bring him in to our 21s and have a look at him.

I was working at home today, and had the Inter - Spurs game on in the background. From what I saw, Nolan was alright, not outstanding, but alright.

So by my reckoning that's Smallbone, Flanagan, Molumby, Obafemi, Drinan, Idah, Connolly, Cassidy, Hale, Parrott and Roache making up a list of Irish youngsters aged 20 or under who have all scored hat-tricks at various levels since the start of the 2017/18 season - that's eleven!! Did I forget anybody?

Incidentally, Rowan Roache has gone on a month's loan to FC United (https://www.blackpoolfc.co.uk/news/2018/november/roache-joins-fc-united-on-loan/) and made his debut for them over the weekend in the FA Trophy: http://www.fc-utd.co.uk/report.php?match_id=2019

Well done to Smallbone - almost a pity that the Villa defender did that, as Afolabi was lurking - would have been good to see him back scoring. Actually Jack Clarke got the winner for Villa, while three other young Irish players featured for Southampton and none of them was Obafemi - O'Driscoll, O'Connor and Ferry: https://www.premierleague.com/match/39359/premier-league-2/2018-19/aston-villa-v-southampton

Elsewhere, Lee O'Connor was credited with an assist for Manchester United against Middlesborough: https://www.premierleague.com/match/39360/premier-league-2/2018-19/man-utd-v-middlesbrough

Gerry McDonagh has joined Josh Barrett at Aldershot on a youth loan from Barnsley: https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2018/december/gerry-mcdonagh-aldershot/

If Spurs get bumped down to the Europa he might just get a chance there, although Pochettino might take it more seriously if he sees it as a route back to the Champions League.

Great to see Parrot in that environment ahead of a Champions League match. I just wonder if Robbie Keane’s connections with Spurs will see Parrot fast-tracked into our senior squad.

After all, Mick gave a debut to a certain 17 year old once upon a time and it worked out pretty well: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qNp--iX8FWQ

Was thinking the same myself earlier, but Micks circumstances and brief are a lot different this time around, its an immediate rescue job rather than a rebuild with time. It'll be be interesting to see if he does involve Parrot or Connolly come March over fellas like O'Brien for example.

Plus Robbie had the best part of a season in the second tier senior football under his belt by the time of his debut, scoring a few already. Obafemi is the current focus for our teenage strikers. As of now I would say our forward line should be Long, Robinson, Obafemi (if he holds his place at Southampton) plus 1 or 2 from McGoldrick, Maguire and Hogan. Of course this could change in the coming months if Connolly were to get a couple of FA Cup goals in January and start playing first team football or Parrott appears in Spurs' first team (either in the Europa League or FA Cup)

Olé Olé
11/12/2018, 5:30 AM
Agreed regarding Obafemi being the focus. Connolly was born in 2000, Idah in 2001 and Parrott in 2002 (all in Jan or Feb) so that would seem the most natural order of things in terms of those lads coming through. But Parrott seems to have the natural ability to kick on earlier than we could expect.

Pochettino might take it more seriously if he sees it as a route back to the Champions League.

I'd imagine he'll see it as a route out of the CL. Although, at least their main competitors for the top four, Chelsea & Arsenal, are there also. They should have half a chance tonight anyway assuming Barcelona rest a few (or maybe PSV do them a favour).

Only a few U23 games tonight but there was one significant one from our point of view. Southampton won 2-1 against Newcastle thanks to welcome goals assist from Jonathan Afolabi and Will Smallbone with Afolabi credited with the assist for Smallbone's goal. Both turn 19 early next year some while they may be behind Obafemi in their career paths, they both still have plenty of time to develop: https://www.premierleague.com/match/39366/premier-league-2/2018-19/southampton-v-newcastle

I tried finding something about that but couldn't - was kind of hoping he had played a competitive fixture for one of their underage teams as that would mean his switch to our underage teams would have tied him, right?

never played for England as far as I can remember so certainly free to play for either. The doubt here is because he wasn't in our 19 s qualifiers squad in Oct. He did play in a friendly in Sept though. Hasn't Been involved with England 19s either this season. Hasn't played competitively for us or England at any age

Ryan Cassidy got his sixth of the season as Watford U23s lost 2-1 to Bristol City: https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/under-23s/u23-report-reaction-bristol-city-2-1-watford

Jack Clarke was credited with an assist as Villa lost to Stoke 3-2 in a game which featured two Irish 17-year-olds - Tyreik Wright and Nathan Collins: https://www.premierleague.com/match/39370/premier-league-2/2018-19/stoke-v-aston-villa

Collins and Wright are 2 interesting ones. You can see how Collins stepped up to that level already. He's a big guy, as well as being a brilliant defender. Young Wright is much less physical so it's great to see him getting a chance at that level. Loved watching him for the under 17 side. Very skillful player but plays with a smile on his face. The Dutch roughed him up a bit and he didn't shy away from them which was great to see. If he can develop physically he could be very good. Big hopes for Collins.

Away to Bournemouth. If it were lower league opposition one would be more confident he'd get a run. It all depends on how much Hughton cares for the competition.

Looks like Hughton is targeting a run in the cup. Near full strength team with no room for Connolly on the bench. Disappointing.
