Finally, just in case people think Im undermining assault, far from it, it should be strongly condemned, but unfortunately this is one of the extremely rare cases where we are not going to get witnesses to come forward. If we all cant accept that point then we might as well disband the league immediately
Sorry what!?
So basically what you're saying is ANY club at any time can do whatever the f*ck they like, as long as everyone agrees to say nothing afterwards

Just remember, this could've been solved long ago if the league had agreed to have two linesmen on Abbeyfeale's games. A very simple solution.
Just let that sink in.

I pity the refs of the Kerry league where the Facebook warrior is an assessor. I cannot believe some of the stuff he has posted. He has actually made matters worse in some regards and the Desmond league refs are embarrassed by him and want to distance themselves from him entirely. He should be reported to the fai because regardless of anything else that is not the proper conduct of a referees assesor. Could you imagine pat Kelly from cork carrying on like that.

And that was meeting the situation more than half way considering the seriousness of the situation. But the league is finished for a bit , the league that was voted in by the clubs have lacked the leadership that was needed to bring the Desmond league forward. Unfortunately people in those position need heart and desire but most of all have a positive vision and pathway to lead the next generation of young kids into a football with a heathy future.

If this matter ever finish’s is it time to review referees criteria generally . Should there be an age limit ? How can someone over 60 years of age ref a match ? Should refs be soccer only ? How can refs do a soccer match after reffing a schools hurling match earlier that day or the previous evening ? Is there a certain fitness test should be done annually ?
This obviously would need all clubs making more of an effort to recruit younger referees , the money is attractive if a club could identify suitable members or if not that club should have higher ref fees .

Some very valid points there abbeyman. A referee should be coming down in status with age coming from senior men to ladies to youths to underage to being an assessor if the eyesight is still holding up. Age plays an important part to all of us but running around after 21 year olds the day after blowing out your 70th birthday cake candels is madness.
Recruitment is the only way and clubs need to approache people who might be suited.no doubt we will all be slated by your man ( the GOD of referees).. if he doesn't like this forum don't be on it.. he has all our names too as his cousin is james bond

some valid point alrite but will not solve the immediate problem..for the good of league and all hard work done by players management and committees including Desmond league committee can the refs please return to see out season..I think the safest place a ref could be going now is abbeyfeale. accept the league member at game, referee asser and a member of there committee safeguarding the ref for all his time at grounds..to me this is a fair compromise and again can I add that no referee ever should be treated badly but it's time to move on for everyone else..

If a ref. is fit and hasgood eyesight age should not be a barier, actually we had a ref. here in the Mayo league, he must have being up on 80 when he retired fro reffing, he could run and ref. a lot better than some ref. 1/2 his age.
Refs. has to do assessment course every year and part of the course would be a fitness course, allthough i was told by a ref. here that one of our refs. had failed the FT but was allowed to continue reffing.

If you were to write a list of issues about the League at this moment, this would be a footnote at the bottom.
If a ref is able to pass a fitness test and is up to the mark it shouldn't matter what age he is. Pretty sure it would be grounds for discrimination too.

I know you might need young fresh refs, but would you put your son or daughter into that pressure enviroment getting abused by middle age footballers. Agreed refs need to look at the bigger pitcure now and get league finished or else they will no longer need there society. The league will fold and we will have half the teams in KERRY and half in the CITY.
On another note if they came back next week , is there enough time to get league and cups done?

It’s way too late imo. Several rounds of league games left. Not to mention cups. We are in June now. I just can’t see it working out

In the event that the league gets underway there's at least 48 games left to play, excluding the Second Division as I'm not sure how many are left with teams pulling out and such.
Premier Division - 22 games.
First Division - 10 games.
Second Division - ?
Desmond Cup - 3 games
Premier Division League Cup - 4 games.
Second Division League Cup - 9 games.

2 or 3 weekends of Friday & Sunday games could wrap up all the leagues. I’m sure clubs would be open to a midweek game at this stage too if need be. If the refs vote in favor of proposal, all parties will agree that the season needs to be wrapped up as soon as possible, so hopefully will be a smooth process.

Fixtures are back Sunday so lads.
Now all we need is abbey to go off to Kerry in the off season (if we get one) and we won’t have any more of this nonsense anymore :)
All joking aside. Glad to see the season will finish. Even if it will entail a lot of non games and walkovers

Fair play to the club delagates for brokering peace last night. Great news that cups and leagues being finished out. Best of luck to clubs with nothing to play for finding there players to play this Sunday of all sundays. But once again this is an outcome we needed lets get back to the football and start rebuilding the relationship between clubs/leagues and refs.

Are the league going to have to abandon the rule regarding all sides paying their last three games at the same time?
At present all but two have less than fifteen games played, and the league are not in a position to be giving clubs weeks off anymore.

Fixtures are out, no fixtures for Rathkeale and Kildimo but at least they're sticking to their rules.

Heard that there wee a few snide remarks passed towards the refs by a "Gentleman & A Lady" at the meeting the other night, and apparently both of them are on the outgoing committee. Pity that they could not have attended without the usual blinkered approach like the clubs and the refs did.
Hopefully the clubs will remember it when the AGM comes round and put in place people who can see that burying your head in the sand achieves nothing other than blindness . Great to see how well the clubs can do when a few wise heads put their thinking caps on and go into a meeting without any pre-conceived ideas of who is wrong and who is right.
Well done again to the Clubs and the Refs for getting football back on and the season finished

Agree it is great there has been a resolution but for me it's come too late... there'll be a lot of animosity towards Abbeyfeale from a few clubs within the league for a good few seasons to come after this debacle.
Personally I would have seen Abbeyfeale (Junior team) as the standard bearers in recent seasons, conducted themselves well, played well and were well coached... don't know what to think now... (the club as a whole have to take responsibility for this happening)
Also in relation to fixtures coming out Wednesday/ Thursday it's a joke; they must think fellas are just waiting with their gear bag in hand for games... it'll be interesting to see the scorelines/ and number of walkovers this Sunday...
They've waited this long; what was another few days gonna matter to teams so they could have proper notice.
If a team gets knocked out of a competition or relegated due to unavailability of players over the coming weeks will they have a right to appeal?
The season may end but if a team feels hard done by it won't be the end of it...

I see the king of the referees, the Kerry league assesor, is still posting ridiculous embarrassing statements up on Facebook. Hopefully William Attley will ensure he has nothing to do with football in the near future.

The guy is actually a pantomime. The Desmond referees are embarrassed to even be associated with him and that’s a fact.
Good luck to all teams and refs tomorrow. Hopefully there isn’t too many walkovers.
The Facebook warrior also posted something about the Desmond cup being cancelled. I presume that’s nonsense

Heard Breska & Rathkeale B played out a very entertaining 2-2 Draw also this morning in the 1st Division, apparently end to end football with Rathkeale B playing the entire match with only 10 men, fair play to both teams & others for not giving walkovers with nothing really left to play for.. great to have the soccer back.

I was at the first 30 mins of that Breska game. As you said it was a very entertaining and end to end game in that period. Breska no.10 scored a peach of a goal into the top corner. Didn’t seem like Rathkeale only had 10 men the way they were playing

Crazy decision if true. Finish this season in full first, if next season needs to be pushed back by a month so be it. I’m surprised as well no mid week games on a Tuesday or Wednesday
Cruyff

Only speculation/rumour...
It would also need to be players registered in the new season if that were the case, so for example if a guy playing for a team this season, signed for some one of the teams still involved in a cup competition, he would be entitled to play and wouldn't be cup tied.
I'm not sure what the precedent would be but I'm sure something like that has happened before...
I defer to the more knowledgeable football people on here regarding that one

Well done to all teams on getting games going again. Finish off the season in full, push it out a month. Ballistinianlad you have a follower by all accounts. Man is tapped wrong. I vaguely read through his posts not getting much reaction thankfully we still have people with lives.
Another good weekend of games ahead.
Might be no harm to get a midweek 1 0r 2 going if teams can organise between themselves.

so has a precedent been set, that if a club disagrees with what is in a referees card then the league will side with the club?

On a side note, with the kennedy cup on I see south dublin pulled out ant a team from belfast went in.
There are now 3 schoolboy trams from Limerick and only 2 from Dublin , beggers belief, imo county and Desmond should join together .
