Got his 7th goal of the season tonight against Swansea. That's a decent return from 25 starts this season.

If would be a great time for him to hit form and increase his numbers before contract negotiations with potential clubs this summer.

saw a bit of the 2nd half last night and Ogbene was very lively. Awarded MOTM and the commentary team were full of praise for him.

It looked like he might have been fouled but showed quick thinking with the finish.

Hasn't been great lately but turned it on in front of the Sky cameras - probably not a coincidence given he's a player that wants out of Rotherham and will be moving on at the end of the season.

Will be interesting to see what kind of club he can get as a free agent.

i think thats a bit harsh to be honest. Always comes across as a player who gives his all.
to suggest he was turning it on for the cameras is unfair.
its not as if scouts / agents only watch these players from the comfort of their sofa.

I didn't actually mean it as a criticism, I think he's right to run down his contract and move on to hopefully better things. But usually when players turn it on in front of the live TV cameras it's not a coincidence. He was everywhere last night, back defending, getting on the end of chances up front. It's always going to get noticed more by other clubs when it's a live TV game.

Belgian sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, quoted by 'The 72' today, claims that Standard Liege are monitoring Ogbene, and that some discussions have already taken place. Ogbene becomes a free agent this summer.

He needs to be aiming higher than a mid table Belgian team surely. He'd be as well staying at Rotherham as going there.

A while in the Belgian league did Josh Cullen no harm. Think it would be a very positive move for him at a big club.

a top 6 championship move should be his aim or a "better" top flight team outside the usual top 5 leagues , netherlands belgium etc.

Ogbene would be older than Cullen going over though, and Standard Liege are not Anderlecht. He's 26 in a couple of months, as a late developer he needs a good move in England now - probably to a Championship team with genuine promotion prospects.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see interest from Germany in him and Knight.

I think a newly promoted Premier League side would be smart to go for Ogbene. If you're in a situation where you're not going to have as much of the ball and will need to counter, he's the perfect outlet as he demonstrated yesterday. Perhaps hasn't done enough at club level to justify a move like that to be fair but on a free transfer it would give clubs a different option.

Standard Liege are, arguably, the biggest side in Belgium. They're four points ahead of Anderlecht in the league with four regular season games left. They still have an outside chance to get into the top four and with that, a guarantee of some European football. Failing that, they get a Europa League league playoff by finishing in the next four. I don't think it would be a bad move at all for him.

That has more to do with Anderlecht having a down season post Kompany though. Liege are a mid table Belgian team these days, they finished 14th last season. Not a move I'd want Ogbene to make at his age. I don't think he should be going to any club in Belgium to be honest.

That was hugely anomalous though. They're generally 5th-7th over the past few years and have been regulars in the group stages of Europe.

For right or wrong, I don’t think many PL clubs sign free agents from the championship. Particularly relegated or relegation threatened level Championship. I remember Mick McCarthy singing Nyron Nosworthy for Sunderland years ago in a similar move. Just sticks in my mind as a case. He wasn’t a bad workhorse man marker type in the end. But it didn’t bode well overall for the club.

I just think with the path now better worn between the UK and Germany recently, Plus the audience he had on Monday given proliferation of French starters in Germany, that there’s potential that a reasonable level BL club could see it as a shrewd investment.

I’d love to see it. The only thing is, the finances even in the Championship compete with most top flights in Europe. So a reasonable level BL team might still not offer the remuneration of the Championship for a free Agent.

Ok well I definitely don't think Ogbene should be going to the fifth to seventh best team in Belgium at his age.

Surely at this age its all about how long a contract he can get and the best salary. If he tears it up in Belgium or Turkey or the Premier league he will get another move

A top half Championship team will almost certainly pay more than a Belgian team though.

That was the rational for Cullen moving to Championship too, and it's spot on. I've no idea what the salaries are exactly but I wouldn't be surprised if a fella could make 3 or 4 times what he would in Belguim in a top end Championship club.

Goal for Ogbene tonight! I think that is 8 goals :)

From absolutely nowhere, Rotherham are back on level terms!

Wes Harding whips in a teasing cross that skips off the slick playing surface, and Chiedozie Ogbene arrives at the back post to head home.

Cardiff want a foul on Cedric Kipre - there's a little bit of contact from Richard Wood, but not enough to send Kipre tumbling like that.

4 assists so far this season. Might look 'dozie at times, but obviously like a coiled spring at others.

On Sheffield Utd's doorstep....who knows where Ogbene will be next season?

He's become one of my favourite Irish players over the past few years. The amount of energy he provides in defence and attack is phenomenal and he has skill too. I'd love to see him move to a bigger club this summer... no offense intended to Rotherham, and some will say that he has made his bed and now he has to lie in it, but if that performance against France didn't show that's he's capable of cutting it at the highest levels, I don't know what will. A move to Italy or Germany would be fantastic.

Yeah, I think he’s been great. Fantastic attitude, great work rate and a real threat with his pace. Knows how to finish too.

Bad challenge and some said went down holding his hamstring. Conor Coventry also missed today's game with a hamstring injury. His first game not starting for Rotherham since joining.

Agreed - but I'm not hugely surprised. I think the view of him here changed a lot based on the French game, and while he played well in it for sure, before that you had people saying he was too inconsistent to really be in our starting line-up (and he was being left out)

Wednesday probably have more chance of launching a promotion push than Rotherham, but talk of the Bundesliga (as earlier in the thread) was always a bit ambitious I think.

But we'll see - it's just a rumour for now.

In terms of league yes but not club :)> Anyway, Wednesday are always linked with any half decent Rotherham player so may be just a rumour.

Yeah, have to be happy with that. I expect Luton will struggle but as you say it gives him the chance to see if he's up to it. I think he may need to be more consistent at impacting games (compared to Ireland when, let's be honest, there wasn't too much uproar when he was dropped for a while last year)

But best of luck with it obviously!

Cracking move for the lad and his style will fit in well at Luton. They're a tight knit team so will have to work hard to get his chance and keep his place but no better lad as he's got a serious work ethic and determination to succeed.

Even if Luton get relegated he'll still be playing with a championship team better than those he was linked with this summer. Could also impress enough at PL level to build interest from other teams if Luton get relegated.

great move, i still dont see him as being good enough as an out and out 9. not strong enough with his back to goal. luton will likely be playing on the counter/not have lots of the ball all season anyway so i could well be masked. hopefully its something they can work on with him

Delighted for him! Deserves a chance to play at Premiership level and show what he can do. The France game showed what he is capable of in both defence and attack when up against top, top players.

Pleasantly surprised with both of the premier league transfers earned by the lads this early in the window.

There was quite a lot of rumors of where he was heading and a lot of them seemed underwhelming but he's really got himself a great move.

Will be interesting to see how Luton fair in the EPL as its a fairytale for them.

Really hope himself and O Shea can get into their teams now.

Luton, Ogbene cynics miss the point as dreaming Hatters won’t be corrupted by Prem money-bags
https://www.football365.com/news/luton-ogbene-cynics-miss-point-dreaming-hatters-wont-be-corrupted-premier-league-money-bags

As good as Ogbene has been for Rotherham, we have perhaps seen the best of him in a Republic of Ireland jersey. Five goal involvements in 15 caps is a great return for Ireland’s first African-born international, but it is even more impressive that his best performances came against Portugal, Belgium and France. Ogbene performs at a higher level against tougher opposition and this sets him up superbly for life in the Premier League.
