Can we not turn this into another O'Brien v Aherne nonsense fest ffs that entire thing has gone so far beyond boring at this stage.

Conducting soft-serve interviews with recently-released pals also stands as an absolute disgrace, unlikely to be tolerated anywhere else on this island.

Who is being reference in this extract from that Alan O'Brien website article - is it local media or the club media?

I said at the time to a couple of people it was silly allowing a club employee co commentate (what could be gained??)

Well, now here we are.

To be honest the media side of it isn't really the important part. Plenty of people are having a go at the club under no influence from media.

Local radio especially i would say. 95FM.

100% agree. For the record former managers doing similar isn't good either. Except NO'C because nobody takes him seriously. With his cows.

Alan O'Brien, I have sledged you aplenty in the past and could well do again but that is an excellent, and necessary piece you have written there.

Thanks for that Alan, makes me feel there is a bit more reason behind the current mess other than poor administration and management and therefore some prospect of improvement. I would have preferred for this necessary clear out to wait until after we were safe however. I won't be thanking anyone if we are in division one. And I still can't stand Neil's football (or lack thereof) so he is far from getting a pass at this stage.

New striker and right full on the way? Heard that they're on trial at the moment and Limerick are interested.

Averaged a goal every ten games in the hungario second division.

Sounds like a project player.

Seriously, is this the best we can do? Whatever happened to all the contacts Mcdonald has? Berki could be a revelation but I doubt our ability to get in quality players. Be delighted to be proven wrong.

You never know, look at Sligo picking that lad up from way down the pyramid in England and he beasted us there lately.

Lets see what he does.

The nice thing about today's signing is the fact that it has happened at all after the uncertainty.

Any chance of a loan for Tommy Robson again? We are crying out for a left back and a right back come to think of it.

Limerick have signed Martin Smith. Box to box midfielder. Played for Kilmarnock last season. Good friends with Tommy Robson. A defender and striker due in also.

That sounds ominous for Duggie ..

20/08/2017, 7:22 PM
Why is it ominous for Duggan, the squad is light ,needs a few players ..as captain Duggan should relish a new players arrival, given his own poor form since the start of the season it should make him knuckle down ,work harder than he ever has and regain the performances we know he has in his locker and not shy away from the challenges ahead,he needs to start showing some leadership on and off the pitch.

That sounds ominous for Duggie ..

Something tells me you are basing this off the rumour on Facebook that he was released. A rumour that was immediately quashed.

Paul O'Connor out. Martin Smith in. Can't see how that would affect Duggie. If he can get his performances back up he will be back in the team.

Good to hear another defender might be on the way.

I hope Duggie gets back in the team, have a lot of regard for him. Something telling you about a Facebook rumour is wrong,it'd be a little more factual.Lets hope all can kiss and make up ..

Well on Facebook it was asked was he released. Someone replied to say they were just talking to his parents and they said it wasn't true and Mike Aherne (who knows Shane) also confirmed it wasn't true.

I would presume it would depend on attitude/performance in training from here on in. Hell of statement from the manager to drop the captain. Didn't seem like the team missed him all that much either. I have a lot of time for Duggan, but he hasn't been anywhere near good enough this season.

The performance from the midfield on Saturday was immense. Both players covered back and supported the strikers in attack. They covered nearly every inch of the MF.

That midfielder isn't being signed now either are the other two trialists.

NeverFeltBetter
30/08/2017, 10:38 AM
I wonder if the generally...adequate performances of the last two games have them thinking they don't need to add to the squad anymore, that they have enough to eke out however few more points more they need to secure top tier football next season. Which is dangerous thinking really, albeit with a certain logic.

osarusan
30/08/2017, 10:43 AM
I wonder if McDonald thinks the current squad is capable of getting by to the end of the season and avoiding relegation, and he's just waiting for a big clear-out at the end of the season.

LK37oldskool
30/08/2017, 12:13 PM
That's the way it's looking now. Players should be fighting for a contract for next season now. There's barely 6 I'd like to see resigned though.

osarusan
30/08/2017, 1:02 PM
Even if that is the plan though, the kind of players he's hoping to bring in are surely more likely to be available now, between seasons in the UK, than they are between Irish seasons (even if there is a transfer window open then).

bluewhitearmy
30/08/2017, 2:01 PM
Martin Smith signing was due to happen but can't now for reasons out of the clubs control and I was told the other two trialists were nowhere near the level required so I think it's more a case of there not being anything available atm than not wanting to add.

Anyone I have spoken to too is adamant it's a lot easier to get good quality from England in January when lads realise they aren't gonna be getting the game time they hoped for.
