I'd have to go with Finn harps, they had a huge attendence in Terryland last year. And they were a first division team, I also hear they will have even more flags and drums, next year, with a little production team, making the large flags.

Shamrock Rovers probably. They've literally paid their own players wages at times and despite all the ****e they've been through they still get decent crowds and you can always hear them.

Rovers by a long shot.
After that, Derry's decibels-per-capita average is impressive (especially in Richmond) and Shels, for all the slagging they get over there not being many of them, make a huge effort with what they do have.
Without any doubt, Rovers.
Harps fans a very close second though
well I suppose I'll just mention the support I'm envious of instead.
Shels - Damn all of them but they're organised and are certainly enthusastic.
Pats - Have had better years but are still very well drilled
Harps - Drums and loadsa passion
Shamrock Rovers - well impressed. The mix of larger and numbers and non stop singing is brilliant.
Like to look of the shed end in Cork.
Always seam to rain when Cork are in town.
Derry. We don't see that many but we hear thousands. Out on their own.

Pats or Rovers i suppose.
Bohs probably biggest disappointment.

Rovers easily, numbers and passion wise, and anything else
Easy to support a team and waffle on about how great you are when your doing well
Harder to support a team when your doing crap, most fans teams just Don't
Lord knows what it must be like to be in Rovers fans shoes
The third highest average attendence hardly counts as "damn all"
it does when the UEFA figures are taken out of it. Your not particularly well supported but you've got a vibrant vocal support. I'm complimenting you...;)

Premier Division clubs
Bohemians - Great fans about two years ago, really disappointing they didn't keep it going, have loads to sing about, was great when they were appealing ot the average Dub joe soap interested in footie and saw that Bohs were doing it, need to sort themselves out
Bray Wanderers - When last up in the premier, not really seen TBH but we'll wait and see
Cork City - Good at the moment but no where ear where it should/could be
Derry City - Great fans, but small numbers recently, amazed by the number of level heads in such a small area, well above the average for eL. No where near what they could be and not looking like they are doing much about it.
Drogheda United - Fans just dont seem to be coming on board in the numbers they should be, last visit i was pleased with the 2500+ there seemed to be there.
Finn Harps - Last time they were up, they thought everyone a lesson, expect more of the same. Probably stick it up to everyone again. We'll wait and see
Longford Town - The fans that are there are top class, but chríst above cup finals ... where do they come out of ?? a faction of them every game and you'd see a difference, not being funny but that should be sorted out quick smart, support your own !!
St Patrick's Athletic - Were great about 4-5 years ago .... where are they now. Sort it out now like !!
Shamrock Rovers - Staying power ..... displays ...... character ...... loyality ..... histroy ..... all cancelled out by the hand full of mindless fúckwits, the worst fans in the league by far !!
Shelbourne - Shocking in numbers, not as bad as people make out but nowhere near what they should be. Needs to be addressed asap
UCD - You have a name for poor crowds .... spade = bęche (french), pala (spanish), spaten (german)
Waterford United - No as bad as they're made out to be, granted, its probably a full house any time we visit. Not vocal enough ..... cardbaord cutouts most of the game. Needs to be sorted out asap.
First Division clubs
Athlone Town - If the population of Longford is half of Athlones ..... is there any alarm bell in the town that someone could sound, even borrow it for a night or two. What is going on like ..... ????
Cobh Ramblers - The ones there make an OK effort but not in the running
Dublin City - The ones there make a good effort but not in the running
Dundalk - Where have they gone ??? with all that history, have they any faith, any pride ??? Something happed there .... something definitely happened !?!?!!? ..... Selofield had a part to play there i reckon.
Galway United - No where near where they should be .... for a long long while. Sort your fúcking lives out !!! The potential is there ..... and a great place to go out. How come a package was never put together to get away fans in, i dont know. Terry is a stone throw from a good night out after the game, probably one of the best venues for a game but ....
Kildare County - New kids on the block still i suppose .... i have never witnessed a game with them, what can i say ... dark horses !?! :p i dunno .... demographics would say they are way below parr
Kilkenny City - Way below parr, sort the ****er out .... a decent ground, and great town to go out in, Looked good for them when they came up 4-5 years ago ... but dropped off since, fans could be doing alot more to sort it. need to be organised.
Limerick - Like Derry, the ratio for level heads boads well, like Dundalk or Rovers for history .... the time could be coming now though but (funny how we are speaking of best fans) their test could be right here and now, if their fans pulled in and helped out for the next five years, they might make up for some of the lost ground. Shameful how they have langished at the bottom, a crime infact. Sort it out is an understatement
Monaghan United - Club are doing well ... demographics are not. What little fans are there are OK but need to impose themselves a bit more on the people around
Sligo Rovers - Bags of potential, great ground, brilliant town to go out in, seems to be good sponsorship etc. just need to imposed themselves a bit more on the town, should be alot bigger fan base wise for the first. Could be turning the corner though. Again though .... if there fans were organised and raised the bar/profile it would be better.
For the most part ..... nothing is being done to attract crowds, basics like radio, annouce the game, poster outside the ground, signs around the area .... so what can you honestly expect ??? ... if it was anything more than "not alot" you would be doing your club an injustice.

Longford Town have the best supporters and the best ground in the country. A lot of Town followers tend to have Gaa orientated mind sets and may not be regarded the most educated of soccer supporters around but they'll surely learn in time. LTFC is the most progressive club by a long shot and have made serious strides in such a short period of time.
Don't like saying it but the l@ngers from Cork have a great following at the moment. But why wouldn't they with a such a large population?
Derry City is a sleeping giant and have great vocal support.

Longford town need to get another cash injection .... it aint coming from crowds (that could be there) ... so i think until the bar and astro-turf pitchs are open ... you'll stay the way you are right now. If the crowds did get behind your club in the way that they should, it would be totally unreal and the role-model club for the league .... but it aint happening.

You're right, we need more money coming in, the astro-turf pitches are up and running a while now and the bar should be open for next season. There's also a big push on sponsorship on at the moment so hopefully it'll all help, but we do need more people coming to games and I think the club are aware of this so hopefully there'll be some kind of publicity push before the start of the season, we have to try and get a few of the bandwagoners out there more regularly
Oh, and on topic, always liked the Pats fans, Derry are great too.

Best imo are Rovers and Harps. Pats would've been up there too, but for the total implosion of the SEI last season. Respect to shels I suppose too, but that native american effort is a bit gay really.
They're the only 4 I would really rate - I remember pathetic away support in the past in Flancare for all the other contenders (and Saturday night games too)...

Shamrock Rovers supporters are so far ahead of us all! The amount of crap they have had to put up with over the last 20 years, and yet still they create a better atmosphere than anyone bar none.
PS They still need to sort out the few *******s that attach themselves to the club!
By referring to 'fans' i'll assume this means the people that actually attend the games as opposed to the stay at home type that over a few pints declare "I'm a rovers/bohs/shels/cork/drogs/whatever fan, havent been in yonks though"
For me the best fans are Finn Harps & until recently Pats, though Pats seem to have wilted recently, Derry can be good butt are joining Cork in the stay quiet until they score club!
A special mention though, anyone that trawls the first division season after season deserves credit for their support! That cannot be easy!!
Koh

I don't know how you can say that about us. At away games in paricular the noise generated by the Rebel Army is relentless and even at home games the Shed is in full voice throughout at most games. I think you've got it seriously wrong DVB, unless of course you're on about the Donie Ford Stand or the St Annes end in which case you have a point!
I think only ourselves and Rovers do this whole non-stop singing no matter what lark and it's great imo. Bohs and Drogs seem to have perfected the stay silent no matter what lark!!

A bit harsh on Derry fans KOH.
And just for the record : Derry's nearest away league game is Longford or Drogheda - a third of the way across the country !! And that's our EASIEST option to get to....!
It's not much better for Harps, but at least they had Sligo and Monaghan nearby them until now. Having them back in The Prem will at least ensure one sensible journey for Derry fans....

I have to agree with DVB. Cork are decent away from home but the times we played you in recent seasons the noise levels weren't anything special. In particular the time you beat us 2-1 with two goals in the last five minutes last season the Shed was deathly silent. Possibly because there were 5,000 odd missing that day, who knows?

Eh no, no you're not. I wont even mention Shels but the Derry fans are far louder than the Cork ones, espically the away ones, and they've had far less to sing about recently.
Observation from seeing Derry last season in drogheda twice and a few times in dublin is that their travelling numbers have decreased a good bit from previous years. However was very impressed with the noise levels for the few that were there for their last match in Dalyer last season (though that drum just goes through my head - no offence)

New drums and megaphones bought for the new season already Cosmo
And we added to brass section that amused you in Tolka
I wont even mention Shels
Ahh, posting a little sense at last....;)
Rovers fans are unreal the way they've stuck with their club and still make so much noise. Derry fans and longford fans are always really sound as well. In the First Division, Limerick and Harps all seem to be sound lads as well, Limeick win it on the basis of the ****e they've endured- just like rovers.
Derry and Harps (they are both so alike but we wont tell them that) for all round soundness and support of their teams.
Rovers have to get a mention, to give them their dues they really got the whole tifo scene in Ireland going

Rovers for sticking with the club through all the ****e - but they still have a brave few ******* following them.

"call a spade a spade" .... it is still a spade no matter what language you use, so there is not way of hiding the fact .... it kinda lost its effect when i had to explain it to you though !! :o :p
We get on well with Longford fans, but for sheer ability to generate noise and colour Derry have to be up there. Am looking forward to regular derbies again next year.
I've only ever seen more than a couple of Cork fans at Finn Park once, for the cup game a few years ago, it sounds like they've improved a lot in travelling terms.
In the first division only Galway have brought real vocal support in recent years and that seems to be dropping a way a bit.
Also, credit is due to the Limerick lads- nutters! (In the nicest possible way)

As the best fans are generally accepted as being our lot, and we're not allowed to choose our own, I'd give it to any club's fans who leave us alone when we play them. They know who they are.
Most intimidating fans at a ground are Cork fans. Just looking at their full Shed End for every game there, makes you feel as if they have a goal start before the game every time. It has a real football atmosphere, sadly lacking at many grounds. :) It gave their players the impetus they needed to score several last-minute goals against Rovers over the last few seasons. :(
Despite that, Cork was one of only two games outside Dublin last season, that Rovers got a point from. Yes, we only managed to pick up 2 points outside Dublin last season. Home Farm, as bad as they were, got 3 in Derry in one half! That's the difference!!

Always liked the Shamrock Rovers crowd. They always bring some colour and noise and as stated here already stuck though with the club though thick and thin.
The Drogheda lads who were up for the cup game the season before last also were a sound bunch.
And despite rivalry the Derry fans do make a bit of noise, which is always great.

I find the Rovers fans the worst in the league.
They do bring colour, they do bring noise but
they also bring the bad side of football.
I reckon they a trying to be like English hooligans.
All the Burrberry clothes, baseball hats, the foul language and imtimidatng behaviour. I brings my kids to th EL and It is the only fixture I don't like.
In fairness i purely based my remarks from the away fans perspective at both the Brandywell & Turners X!
Cork may feel that the noise levels are high in the shed but trust me it doesnt travel anywhere near the away fans section in the stand, that stand is what i've had to base my appraisal on, not a peep & then if (or far more likely against us, when) Cork score its the mad roar followed by numerous raised digits in our direction, complete silence is usually restored within 30 odd seconds though! the St. Annes end would be similar though slightly more understandable on the basis theres no roof to channel the volume of support.
Away from home i've yet to hear much of a serious vocal support from the corkeee's at any game i've attended, though the fact relatively few travel to rovers may explain that particular situation!
The Brandywell the last few times up there has been similar, especially since the away fans have been moved to the far end of the stand, the noise (if any) just doesnt travel! Derry though i have to say deserve credit for the noise levels they make away from home considering the relative lack of numbers & a special mention for supporting our pitch protest last season! Pity your chairman wasnt so considerate!!
