I was at the game and Faherty was well onside when Ludden played the ball to him. Granted, that's not totally clear from Soccer Republic but there is a 7 second delay (yes, I counted them!!) between Ludden's pass to Faherty and the ref blowing the whistle, and that is a big time delay in the context
But what about the linesmans flag? Obviously couldn't tell exactly from the footage, only putting it out there as a potential explanation.

I accept it's an attempted explanation, but just saying the flag didn't go up when Faherty got the ball. If there was a flag for Faherty, you'd imagine the ref would have noticed in the 7seconds it then took him to blow, especially as he had to have looked across at the linesman when following the flight of the cross

I suppose I should not be surprised by this:
Kenny had been repeatedly expressed the hope the final round of games could be pushed back by 48 or 72 hours but Cork City (http://www.irishtimes.com/search/search-7.1213540?tag_organisation=Cork%20City&article=true) boss John Caulfield (http://www.irishtimes.com/search/search-7.1213540?tag_person=John%20Caulfield&article=true) vehemently opposed any such move and the association, despite having previously given the impression it might be flexible, appears to have shied away from a fight.

Kenny thinks his team should get special dispensation just cos they've a fixture backlog as a result of being moderately successfull.
fair play to caulfield,

Can you imagine how demanding Kenny will become if he manages some proper success?

Personally I wouldn't be opposed to extending the season but I can see why JC would stick to his guns on this. This backlog is of the clubs (both clubs - Pats are the only team who I'd feel a little sorry for) own making. It could have been managed better but the league has bent over backwards to help Dundalk out so far. The end of the season and cup final dates are written in stone.

For a country obsessed with the way things are done in England it is a wonder that the Cup Final is still the final game of the season!!

fair play to caulfield,
Please persist with these half swipes at Dundalk and management PC as they are certainly entertaining with all the palpable frustration and resentment apparent for you - there is no doubt there is some satisfaction in seeing Rovers fans simply not cope with what could have been in Tallaght if a fuse hadnt been blown by that defeat to Bohs.

Next season will be interesting we all start out again as mere mortals.
I wasn't on the forum back when we were in the group stages of the Europa league.....were we as patronising back then ?
I can't speak for placid casual but I don't have any regrets about Kenny leaving. At that point he had won 1 league and 1 FAI cup in his Management career, how were we to know that he would become a football genius...or maybe its just his/Dundalks time....it happens and fair play.
I'll be cheering for you against Zenit because its great to see the league getting talked about , even if it is by losers like Dunphy last night on the Ireland match.
reflects well on all of the clubs in the league...

It's not fair to generalise, but for as long as I can remember arrogance has been closely associated with many Shamrock Rovers supporters
but I don't have any regrets about Kenny leaving.
Delusion and denial might be replacing it

With dundalks current position your comments are easily made but life moves on. Unlikely that in a years time current perspectives will be the same. That's just age and experience talking. But maybe Stephen Kenny will do an Alex Fergie ..time will tell. .. great thing about the Internet is that in 3 years time we can reflect on this. Arogance or patrinisatin is a question of perspective.

It didnt go over my head at all I just dont agree. From the perspective of dundalks current success you and plenty of others think kenny leaving rovers is something for us to regret and from that perspective it would appear that we should. My point is that football and success is normally a transient thing. If dundalk get knocked out in the first round of Europe next year (hopefully not) and some new messiah at rovers gets us to the group stages again then nobody will be talking about how much rovers must regret etc etc. Enjoy your moment in the sun we enjoyed ours and hopefully more to come next year from all 4

It is a not a moment in the sun, Stephen Kenny has brought good times to Dundalk for four years at this stage.
In 2012 we finished second to Pats by three points despite being in a relegation play off the previous year.
In 2013 we won our first title in 18 years
1n 2014 we won the double
In 2015 we qualified for the group stages of the Europa league and are chasing a second double.
In that period Kenny had to manage the loss of leading goalscorers Pat Hoban and Richie Towell.
Stephen Kenny did not become a great manager in the few months between being sacked by Shamrock Rovers and being appointed by Dundalk. He would have been a great manager at Shamrock Rovers too. It just would have taken more time as he started at Dundalk with a blank sheet. At Rovers, there was already a structure in place, players and staff. Kenny insists on a complete buy in to his philosophy at Dundalk. That is not always easy to achieve, especially it would appear at Shamrock Rovers.

While being sacked from Rovers was a difficult time for him, the signs are he is stronger mentally and a better manager for the experience. It has worked out fantastic for both Kenny and Dundalk. The best of luck to ye! :)

I found a jar of beetroot in the fridge once that was 3 years old. Seems like a moment to me....now a nice 10 year old bottle of red wine smacks of something of substance. : )

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we got something off Cork City on Saturday, now that Dunne is gone we won't be as negative in our approach and we might actually have a cut at Cork this time instead of rolling over and dieing, we actually started with a 3-5-2 in Turners Cross :D.

All credit to Kenny for what he's done but this is clearly nonsense. He may have become a great manager at Rovers but pretty much all the signs were that he wouldn't. No point getting into the ins and outs of why that was as I'm sure you know, but there's no guarantees of anything especially in a basket case like SRFC was at that time and probably still is.
