Late last night I was informed of the tragic news the regular poster here Dunny passed away at the age of 25.

Last July Dunny had actually asked me via PM if it was OK to start a thread like this following the death of Stephen Maher's Dad and also mentioned the Pat's fan Hano that had died previously. I said that was a good idea and remember wondering why he didn't start it in the end. So I guess I'll start it now- use this thread to announce, pay tribute, remember, express condolences etc for Dunny and any other LOI people who pass away.

Always enjoyed his wind up posts. It is shocking news and while a Dundalk fan myself it was the online persona that I knew best and yet it still feels like knowing the chap. RIP Dunny!

Despite him being a Termonbarry Athletic supporting scummer it is absolutely awful and shocking news. I actually can't believe he was so young. One of the standout posters on here since I started posting on here.

RIP Dunny. Sorry I never got to have that pint with ya. I'll have it in France for ya now.

Ah jesus. That's awful news. Himself and myself went toe to toe regularly when I still had something relevant to contribute to this group. Him and his police scanner...

RIP Dunny. :(

What was that story?

I dont think that it would be inappropriate to retrospectively mention a few other like the afore mentioned Hano and WWS of whom I know little about but nonetheless were LoI stalwarts that died too young and should be included in this thread also imo.

What was that story?

oh it was just the usual, your fans starting trouble no your fans started it...kind of stuff. He heard the police say that Bohs fans had started trouble outside Oriel a good few years back, he had just joined the message board. He said he heard it on his police scanner. We bantered a bit about that for a while.

It's funny how familiar you become with forum usernames over the years, and how much of a jolt it is when the person behind it passes away, regardless of having never met or known them. RIP Dunny.

The first ever full (non-caretaker) Irish senior manager to pass away. RIP. :(

His wiki article is interesting -

At the same time as managing Ireland, Tuohy was also managing Shamrock Rovers and was working as an area sales manager for HB Ice Cream. He was now the father of six children and financial pressures forced him to give up the Ireland job which only paid £500 a year
After that, he managed Trinity College for six years.

Also forced through moving Irish international matches to Wednesdays (instead of Sundays) so that English League players could play, brought Brian Kerr into LoI football and, in his last job as Ireland U-19 manager, was pushed aside by Jack Charlton very early on in Charlton's reign.

As I said in the farewell thread, I wouldn't say Rasher was a boyhood hero (Frank O'Neill was the man!) but he was in the Rovers' team of the 1960s whom I had the pleasure of seeing win cup after cup. Really skillful and very hard. To coin a classic "he was a lot more deceptive than you might think he was".

Milo Corcoran RIP

The Football Association of Ireland is saddened to learn of the passing of former President Michael 'Milo' Corcoran and expresses sympathies to his family.

Elected FAI President in 2001, Milo held that position until 2005 - having previously served a five-year term as Vice President - and he proved to be a hugely popular figure in all circles of Irish football due to his unstinting loyalty to improving the game at every level.

"In Milo Corcoran, we have lost one of Irish football's true gentlemen. It is with great sadness that I learned of his passing on Monday evening and my thoughts are with his family," said Tony Fitzgerald, FAI President.

"Milo was someone who made a huge impact on so many levels to improve football in this country and his contribution is simply invaluable. From grassroots right up to being FAI President, he made a difference wherever he was and that will be his legacy.

"He will be missed by anyone who knew him and Irish football will certainly be a little poorer without him around. May he rest in peace.

"FAI CEO John Delaney paid tribute to Milo, saying that he made "an immeasurable contribution to the game" and had a huge impact on Irish football for many years.
He said: "Milo was a great personal friend of mine, someone who I had the pleasure of knowing for more than 30 years, and someone who I was extremely close to.
"He made an immeasurable contribution to the game and he is someone whose loss will be felt deeply in the world of football. The FAI will pay a number of tributes to Milo in the coming days and weeks, and we will miss him greatly. I want to pass on my deepest sympathies to his family and many friends in the game."

Born in Dublin to Kilkenny parents, Milo grew up in County Waterford and quickly became a key figure in a local supporters club which sparked his passion to make a difference in shaping the future of the beautiful game.
He was part of the current FAI Board and Chairman of the FAI International Committee, where he remained committed to raising the standards of football development throughout the country and worked closely with various departments along with Board and Council Members.

Considered to be the main driving force behind the creation of the Setanta Sports Cup - a cross-border competition between League of Ireland and Irish League clubs - he served as the tournament's chairman from its inception in 2005.
A strong supporter of domestic football, Milo was a regular at his beloved Waterford United, where he served a variety of roles including club chairman, and was the club's representative on the League Committee in the 1980s and 1990s. In recent years, he acted as one of the FAI's TV Liaison Officers.

A member of the UEFA Youth & Amateur Football Committee, Milo carried a strong reputation with him wherever he travelled around the world due to his gregarious personality and love of football.
He was a key figure in establishing the Football Village of Hope with the Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Irish Aid programme to assist integration between Palestinian and Israeli children through football.

In his career outside of football, Milo worked as a sales representative for Heineken Ireland and he recently did some consultancy work with Renua Ireland.
Milo passed away following illness and is survived by his beloved wife Marie, sons Alan and Evan.

I was shocked to hear of Milos passing. Had no idea that he was ill. He was one of the few people in the FAI that was popular with everyone. I remember him in Vaduz in 05 on our trip. He was synomous with the Setanta Cup. Was it him that came up with the idea in the first place?

Before the Setanta Sports Cup, there were at least five previous competitions with a cross-border element going back to the 1940's

Dublin and Belfast Inter-City Cup

North-South Cup

Blaxnit Cup

Texaco Cup

Tyler Cup

Michael Higgins, the UCD PA announcer for at least the past 20 years. His last match was the U19 final just last month.

I know there's a tendency to be biased towards your own club, but for me, Michael was the best PA announcer in the league bar none.

The Bowl won't be quite the same next season... :(
