So what happens if they sign Stephen Carr lets say, would they applaud him on the park but still scream vile abuse at i.e. Noel Hunt when Dunfermline come to town. Methinks not.
As I said a lot of their support would accept it and get behind the player but the majority of support would be against it.
Have you ever lived in Scotland at all? I ask not cheekily, but only because you put your points across as if it's no big deal and they would just get on with it ala Sol Campbell's move from Spurs to Arsenal.
The Old Firm is unlike any rivalry in the world, as long as religion is involved there is always going to be hatred and if you lived in Scotland or espeically Glasgow you would understand that this would be no easy undertaking.
No I've never lived in Scotland but unlike 95%+ of the Celtic fans in this country I have been to Scotland and been to Celtic Park and even been to an Old Firm game and seen both clubs in other games.
I'm fully aware of the sectarian problems in the WEST of Scotland but it is on both sides. I also appreciate that the vast majority of fans of both clubs are decent people. In fact I know plenty of decent fans of both clubs.
I've no doubt that nothing will change in the Old Firm and indeed Rangers could play 11 Irish RCs and Celtic 11 Ulster prods and they'd still be the same rivalry among the fans.
I appreciate a minority will have a problem with an Irish International but I really can't see how a large number of fans that accepted Mo Jo and very much took him to their hearts will have a problem with an Irish player in their shirt.
In fact he'll get far better treatment from his won fans if it happens than another young Irish player got from his own OF fans - Liam Miller.
Now I expect he will get vile abuse from Celtic fans and it will be the seen as the equivalent of a Mo Jo or a Figo.
My hope is that it will allow us to lose the minority of bigots that have attached themselves to our support i nthe last 5 years most of whom discovered Celtic in that period too.
In a footballing sense I probably hope it doesn't happen as I think the player would do better staying in the premiership.
