I see todays Irish Indo are saying Darren Meenan is a rovers target for next season..
That would be a good start to putting a squad together.
Darren is the original "Mr Angry" who whinges, moans, complains, argues, feigns injury and goes down easily. He has also shown a questionable attitude at times in the past . The more I think about it, he would probably suit the Rovers (or Cork City) style. (He can also play a bit when in the mood and gives a fantastic dead ball delivery)

I think Dareen Meenan has done really well for Dundalk over the last few seasons and has a lot to offer if his attitude is right. There have been persistent rumours of a mid-season bust-up with Stephen Kenny and there was strong speculation that he would be moved out of the club in the mid-season window. Obviously that did not happen, but the fact that he has played so little since then tends to indicate that his days are numbered at Oriel Park.
Moving on to another club could work out either way - he could be rejuvenated and re-discover his Dundalk 2013 - 2015 form or lapse back to the performances that saw him drift between 7 clubs in 7 seasons (Harps, Monaghan, UCD, Shels, Sligo, Drogheda at St Pats between 2006 and 2012)
Would Stephen Bradley have the management skills to be able to get the best out of him?

Like Daryl Horgan to Longford, Dave McMillan to Finn Harps, Ronan Finn to Wexford?

After he left Pats Darren Meenan had his daddy poos ring us a few times for him (wasn't he lucky he ended up in Dundalk!!)
This grown man had his daddy poos ringing clubs for him.

You weren't complaining when he went down easily and feigned injury to win the penalty that clinched the title last year. That said, if he has a questionable attitude and throws out his toys when he doesn't get his own way I'm sure he'll fit right in here.

I have not complained about Darren in the past, and I'm not complaining about him now. I wish him well if he moves on.

This is why rovers fall to sh1te every year, signing players that poison the dressing room. By all accounts Meenan's attitude is rotten, you'd think rovers would learn from the Gavin Brennan situation.

The Gavin Brennan debacle was entirely predictable - anyone who knew even the slightest bit about him, knew he was a complete spacer.
Don't expect the model club to kop on anytime soon

I think the thing with the Brennans was Fenlon could, for lack of a better word, control them once he left was when things started to turn. This year overall I think there was a better bunch of players character wise than year gone by the only really bad attitude players I can think of were the Brennans post Fenlon. Some will say Danny North but I don't think he had an attitude problem i think his problem was he just couldn't get fit.
On a sad note Maccer retired today, a truely classy footballer who was a joy to watch. You could see the difference when he played. He'll be hard to replace.

Wow - you say that Rovers were worse in previous seasons?
Here is the Rovers line-up for the first league game this season
Shamrock Rovers: Barry Murphy, Simon Madden, Gavin Brennan, David O'Connor, Maxime Blanchard, Gary Mc Cabe (C) (Gary Shaw 78), Killian Brennan, Dean Clarke (Patrick Cregg 73), Brandon Miele, Michael Drennan, Danny North.
There are significant questions marks about at least 4 of the starting line-up in terms of attitude and discipline.
I'm really curious as to why you excuse Danny North for not getting his weight and fitness to a standard that a pub player would be embarrassed about.

When a club signs and then tolerates a player who can't be bothered getting fit, it sets a very bad example. Danny North is the type of player that this league doesn't need.

who would you have as the fourth? Gavin, Killian, North, and...? It's not really an excuse for him i just think he was more unlucky with injuries than not wanting to get fit, i.e. i don't think he was a bad influence in the dressing room like the others may have been.
Yeah well if you take the team as they were under Fenlon as he brought them all in/kept them on definitely anyway. In seasons gone by we've had 4 or so players that no matter the manager would be bad characters to have but when we had Fenlon I think there weren't any real stand out bad characters. Not that I'm saying its Bradleys fault that these players turned like they did just I think he was willing to put up with less than Fenlon was and was trying to steer the team in a different direction that didn't suit those players and they didn't like that, which personally I agree with.

Paul Corry to Rovers
Ezeikial
11/11/2016, 5:57 PM
Paul Corry could be a good signing for Rovers, if he has fully recovered from the serious cruciate ligament injury which has kept him out of football since Sept 2015. If Corry can realise his obvious his potential he would be bucking a recent trend at Rovers
In today's Indo Daniel McDonnell again namechecks Gary Rogers, Darren Meenan, Ryan Connolly and Roberto Lopez as possible Rovers signing.
These would all improve Rovers, but unless more higher quality signing are made, are unlikely to push them to be title contenders

I know Jimmy. He's from a tiny place in kilkenny. Played with belvo as a teenager then youths. He used to make a lot of ireland underage squads. Had a yr with exeter then a couple with bristol. Had half a season in the conference too before moving to sligo. Decent, tidy little player. Usually played as an attacking wide player in england but moved a bit further back with sligo and played midfield. Even played full back a few times when they were stuck. Best suited to 3 man midfield id say. Im a bit surprised he moved actually. Not sure he can replace any of bolger, morissey or buckley. Probably a rotational option now that holohan is gone.

Jimmy Keohane signed for Bristol City at the same time as Patrick Hoban arrived from Mervue Utd.
Neither of them made any impression at Bristol - curiously they both joined non-league Clevedon Town on loan before going in different directions; Hoban back to Mervue, while Keohane went on to League One side Exeter where he spent 4 seasons.
Their respective career paths have been something of a boomerang since

From reading interviews I don't think anyone at Rovers is expecting to become title contenders next year. Goal at the moment is still to get European football and anything else is a bonus.

Well I for one expect Rovers to challenge not all Rovers fans buy into the way some from the club try to play down our expectancy - Kenny and Caulfield and Michael O'Neill have all shown in the recent past that it's very possible to go from also rans to contenders in one season and that's what me and lots of Rovers fans expect

That's my concern re the management both of the team and the club- continually talking down our chances or put it another setting mediocre targets which ultimately is for there own benefit as it protects their positions

Connolly is exactly the kind of player rovers need. Quality and no attitude, gives it everything he has. Rovers fans would love him. He's still the one player that really irks me for getting away from our grasp when we had him on loan in 2013.

In recent years Rovers have tended to specialise in players with attitude and modest quality - maybe Connolly will buck the trend?
I think he is a decent player and would definitely improve Rovers if he signed - but I also think Rovers would need to sign higher quality players to be title contenders

I'm not trying to make out he's a player that has a good attitude and nothing else, he's a brilliant player. Tough tackler for his size, can run past players with the ball and is an assist monster. Would instantly improve any side IMO
