To be fair to Caulfield, Meenan had done a couple of Greg Louganis impressions on that side shortly before the Towell free.

Fair play CR it took until almost August before you gave in and delved in to Corkie a self righteous post. It must have killed you to resist up until now! Cynical diving, well maybe Towell went down easy at one point, gifted a penalty and denied a stonewall one, we will take all the luck we can get! Were you up in Oriel for the game or judging the cynical diving, for example, based on Soccer Republic and Caulfield's ranting?
I was in Oriel. Towell spent most of the game rolling around on his arse.

Rolling around on his arse or his back? The former sounds rather difficult, especially on astro.
Maybe he had a Gary Lineker moment?
Towell's "dive" was no more than O'Sullivan's to win the free that lead to his goal. Both made the most of it. Didn't see the whole game obviously but those two incidents were fairly similar

Towells "dive" was not an isolated incident. As I mentioned up thread at one point he jumped into one of our players and then after making contact crumpled into a pile and the ref gave him a free. He was at it all game. Aside from the penalty it was his only contribution to the game.

I felt really embarrassed with all the diving and fouling from the cynical Dundalk players, when contrasted with the purity, sportsmanship and downright decency of the Corkonians

I think anyone who has read my comments on here over the past few years would say I try and give a balanced view where I can. Obviously everything I post will be tinted Green White and Red but I'm more balanced than most, particularly most City fans.
Towell has battered us in his last 5 or 6 performances. He was embarrassing on Sunday. I've never seen him play so poorly, and for a player of his ability to resort to play acting is really disappointing. For me it is up there with Akinades performance at Turners Cross in 2013 or 14 for Bray (can't remember when exactly) and a performance 4 or 5 years ago from Cretaro in the Showgrounds. We drew 2-2 I believe. Might have been an FAI Cup game. All three performances made me angry, Cretaros was probably the worst of the three, but Towell was up at that level.

Any issue with O'Sullivan going down easy for the free that lead to the goal?

I think that was an fai cup replay and if I'm thinking of the same game I believe we lost 2-1 AET.

Did anybody seriously believe a Cork player had broken the habit of a lifetime and actually fouled someone?

Oh ffs give over. Plenty of Cork lads at it too. Holohan for one and also flailing arms of o Sullivan.
Truth is for all corks supposed dominance they created f all because they had no creativity or intelligence to kill us.
If we played anyone other than Cork on Sunday we would of lost.

CityRebel, Calling CityRebel! Any further observation on the Dundalk performance, Dundalk fans' impression of the game, the slur of suggesting a Cork player may have dived never mind made a tackle...no?! Ah come on engage in a bit of debate, the bias is pure entertainment!!
EP I agree to be fair that you do present the most balanced perspective that is possible (for a Corkie)!

One of my favourite things about this forum is people constantly throwing digs at Cork City and their cynical tactics and nasty play.
Amazing we had the second best fairplay record in the league last year and we've had one sending off on the pitch in 20 games this year :o

Shussshhh!
(One of your fellow Cork fans will lose the plot altogether! Do you not know that Cork City are the purest, most honest, non tackling team ever existed. Nobody has ever suggested Cork use cynical tactics and nasty play - quite the opposite!).

Of course not! O'Sullivan wouldnt go down easy according to Cork folk (I think O'Sullivan is a great player BTW)

He is a tank of a player and the type physical presence up front that i'd love to have as an option. With the width used by Dundalk and the quality set piece delivery a player like him would be a a right handful. Defending a corner with Gartland, Boyle, and O'Sillivan coming at you wouldnt be much fun! He is pretty mobile for a big chap and considering he is only a couple of years in LoI at 30yrs old his fitness was decent when Caulfield brough him in.

He's only 5'10", but somehow wins loads in the air. A strangely unique player.

Well he is an awkward character knocking defenders about with his physicality. Good leap and positioning would make up for the 2 or 3 inches in height of the average target man. I've seen much taller players that were useless in the air (and those who would try to get a head on a daisy cutter).

Mental stuff in Athlone. Never a red card. Ref was a disgrace. Worst i have witnessed. But we dominated the game and it was a well deserved win. If only we done it more consistently.
Seemed to be fights with both teams coaches and players down the tunnel after. Was a very heated game.
Just seen Michael Connolly posting on Facebook ahead of Harps v Athlone, praising Aidan Friel as the best player on the park.
Not sure the referee of the game should be posting on such a public forum praising any player from a game he just officiated in.

Yeah, he definitely exaggerated any contact that was there going on the footage, didnt realise it at the time, what with the view from the away end being so great...
I'd say he was possibly fouled but hard to say either way. That highlights a bigger issue, you dont get frees if you don't go down. Refs have created a situation where players have no choice but to dive to win a free.
