Eddie didn't impress many in Athlone. Didn't seem to care much. Mumblings of a return of Roddy are picking up speed.
I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Word is Roddy is to start as Waterford manager on Monday. With Tommy Griffin staying involved with the club.

Probably going against the grain here but i would reckon that rod would do well enough with Waterford. He is high profile enough to stir up enthusiasm in the area.
Looking at the has gotten both Monaghan and athlone promoted after god knows how many years in the graveyard.

We can't get any worse....can we? So f*** it we might as well. I'm not a fan of his, but at this stage I don't care. Club is dying a slow, painful death.

Rumour has it Roddy is in England and only verbally agreed to take over Waterford. Heard he has been in contact with Athlone. Could be a twist in the tale yet.
Still, i reckon he will end up in Waterford, although Athlone would make much more sense for him. Training in dublin, id imagine a much higher budget and he already knows alot of the players.

Tonight a local journalist on the local soccer scene down here and close to the club. Said tonight all to be revealed Tuesday lunch time/afternoon in regards to Roddy Collins.

Yeh that kind of adds fuel to the fire of the Roddy to Athlone rumour too. After the talk of Roddy starting Monday for Waterford. Thats obviously not the case now.
Its going to be an interesting few days.
For some weird reason, no matter where he goes I always want to see him do well.
Probably the knowledge that there will inevitably be a train crash and the higher he goes the more spectacular it will be.

Might as well bring in roddy so, and make it a quick and painful death.

Regardless of peoples opinions on him, he is a good manager. How many people tried, and failed miserably to get us out of the 1st division. For 20 years nobody could do what Roddy done in 1 season. Roddy done nothing wrong down here. He didn't over spend as everyone claims he does. He may talk alot of crap, but he knows how to get a bit of buzz going in a town. Every single Athlone fan would have Roddy back in a heartbeat.

Its a reasonable gamble from Waterford. As has been mentioned they are dying anyway, maybe this sparks some interest in the club again locally. Derry aside, has Roddy every managed outside of the Dublin area in the LOI? I know he was at Athlone and Monaghan but he was able to sign a lot of Dublin based players, he might not have that luxury in Waterford.

He's played the last 5 games with their under-21 team. They haven't had a reserve team in a few years.

U21 Development league Division 2 or something. So in fairness not not with Palace on trial but not signed with the reserves or U21s either. A typical overstating the situation from the Collins camp possibly? Isnt that the De Silva that was linked with palace when Collins Snr was at Derry and said he was refusing to sell?

Last night I listened to the podcast of Roddy on Newstalk. He said Junior was with Brackley Town and has gone on to play Palaces last eight reserves games.

But, he hasn't. That's my point. They don't have a reserve team at Palace. And he's played the last 5 games with their under-21 team.

A quick scan of the match reports and Collins was in squad of the last 6, close enough for Roddy in relative terms. Fair play to Junior for persisting with his career regardless of nepotism accusations. This is also reserve football as a new system from 2013 too.
edit - Hadn't seen your post Nigel - it is as close as reserve footy at Palace. It isnt senior and there is no indication of having signed a contract per se.
But, he hasn't. That's my point. They don't have a reserve team at Palace. And he's played the last 5 games with their under-21 team.
if they don't have reserves at Palace then isn't the U21s the next closest thing? Forgivable exaggeration if you ask me...

The reserve league was disbanded for the PDL across the English leagues so it is the Reserve league equivalent now. So yes as stu has said not a particular exaggeration at all! The league division is based on the category of the club academy rather than the senior level.

Really, it's just any excuse to have a dig at Roddy Collins.
His son shouldn't be in the league when there's bigger players around him after all.

Roddy Collins in he's column with the Star today.
" I'M delighted to confirm that discussion s with the Waterford United board have gone really well with regard to my appointment as manager.
A few matters remain to be finalised and that will take place over the next few days.
I've been very impressed by the people I've met at the Blues and I can't wait to get started.
I know all about the club, the players and am well aware of the great tradition of football in the city.
All the players will get a fair crack of the whip to show what they can do. And I can guarantee the fans on Suirside that I will improve each and every player.
Anybody who doubts that need, only look at Monaghan United in 2011 and Athlone Town two seasons ago".

Disagree he'd do a good job with Athlone but his style of football is atrocious And I really think Athlone need to get a manager in that will let you play, that's a great squad of players and should be waking the division in my opinion. Johnny Glynn would be the perfect choice but then again he's been out of the league for a while now which may or may not throw up some problems for him as a manager.

After failing to force Owen Heary and Liam Buckley out of their jobs and not being considered at Bray, despite making eyes at them, and despite only a few weeks ago saying he'd never "manage" in the LOI again, the man who talks out of both sides of his rear is back in the LOI. Gotta feel sorry for the people he named tonight, they'll be the same people who ruin/destroy/betray him in September. Good man manager, dangerously unhinged person.

Good point made by Roddy in interview on the news today; that anyone with a big budget can buy the best players but it is not really management.
Getting Sporting Fingal promoted, Drogheda shopping centre development, Ollie Byrne leverage of Tolka, Bohs deal with Liam Carroll and Zurick Bank loan on Dalyer are all dubious achievements and had little to do with proper soccer management.
