Sounds like a decent bit of business done by Rovers then. What standard would you rate the LA guys compared to any UK team or league ?
They'd probably be of a top championship side standard, if you took out their "designated players". We played QPR last season and they were far superior. The MLS is growing massively every year though, so the standard will keep rising.

Anyone who points out that you beat Harps by 6 is surely saying that you're 7 goals better than us. :D

Sligo looked a quality passing side last night and the Bohs lads looked to have settled right in.
First half we hung in there but 2nd half they passed through us and scored with some very impressive pass and move for their goals.
Harps have work to do on structure of side, and one or two need to get their fitness ,up but with 4/5 players to come in not too despondent.
Sean Fallon Centre is a fine facility.

I'd say SDCC were the main beneficiaries here. I hear Galaxy more or less came here as a favour to Robbie, so I'd say they might have gotten ridden a bit.

They've a couple of super players but the standard wouldn't be amazing. Talent-wise, take out Robbie and Gonzalez and maybe Rogers and they weren't much better than Rovers. The real difference was physical - they were big lads, even though Rovers looked fitter.

Blues 2-1 Longford.
Very good game. Very impressed with us, we've a very young talented side this year a lot seem to be underestimating us. We played some nice football in horrible weather. Longford didn't impress expected them to be better. I thought we deserved the win as we were unlucky to be behind at half time. We created a good few chances and looked very good in attack. Longford were unlucky not to equalize late on.
Jack Doherty was the stand player in the pitch.
David O Sullivan was a absolute disgrace BTW awful tackle on our captain Brian Nolan saw Nolan leave the field in very evident pain and he was unable to walk and had to be assisted into the dressing room. There's was no need to make the tackle as he was never getting the ball. Very lucky he wasn't sent off.
American Samuel Dorf whom arrived yesterday played a part in the game as well as Mark Walsh neither announced signed by the club as of yet.

Wasn't at the game so can't comment, but seen Paul Hunt, our keeper defend the 'tackle' on twitter, said something to the effect that Davy didn't mean it, and slid on the surface.

Waterford surprised me big time, very good on the counte attack, quick. Jack Doherty will be the star of the first division, performances like that and he's straight back to england in no time. Paul Hunt had an excellent game for us and Blues should have been ahead at half time only for 2 great saves from him. We were very poor and our fitness levels didn't look up to stretch at all, worrying ahead of the big one next week.
As for the sully tackle the only explanation I can give is that he slipped on the surface becuase he didn't actually go in with his feet he kind of flew in American football style, it didn't look like he slipped but it wouldn't make sense to make the sort of tackle he did and he's the last player you'd call dirty, can't remember the last yellow he got never mind a red. It was an awful challenge though and I hope the blues player recovers he looked in a bad bad way, the ambulance crew were extremely slow to respond with the stretcher, makes you wonder how they'd ever deal with a serious incident.

Game abandoned at half time due to the weather. Ruairi Keating penalty after 2 minutes was the difference.

Great result for Limerick.was at the game,Cork had nearly a full team on display.Limerick showed great attitude with a team of young lads and experienced loi players.if they can play like that for the season who knows we might stave off relegation.the only problem is the squad is threadbare.injuries and suspensions will be difficult to deal with.

Presidents Cup:
Dundalk 2-1 Pats
Better team won, Dundalks quality in midfield too much for us.
Forrester put us 1-0 after a well worked move, Horgan equalised a minute later with a cracker and then Towell a minute later to win it.

Fair assessment of the game but it is a pre season game and unlikely to be an indication of league games to come. The general concern of Dundalk fans is that McMillan isnt going to rack up the goal haul of Hoban. I tend t think that he will be top scorer with us and a lot of goals from midfield. It will be nice to get the season going in earnest!

Credit to both sets of players for putting on a good show at the President's Cup today. I thought Dundalk looked closer to being ready for the season.
Pats are not there yet, they are still looking a yard off the pace.

Hard to judge that game today as an indication for the league. We looked fitter and ready for the season. We will miss Hoban's ability to hold the ball up as a lot didn't stick with McMillan. Finn looks a class apart. He was instrumental in our two goals and really put himself about. He's a lot stronger than he looks aswell.
Pats looked like there was something missing. Brennan offered absolutely nothing and I wouldn't be too confident if he carries that form into the season but Its still only pre season so we'll see.
It was an entertaining enough game but I'll be glad when it starts for real next week.

I'm very worried about our midfield this season not just based on today, we haven't replaced Fahey (Towell is probably the only player good enough in the league to do that), we actually haven't replaced John Russell since he left.
Chambers and Brennan too similar, they both just want to sit in front of Bolger instead of getting up beside the striker and going past him. As the season goes on I reckon we'll see Forrester deployed as a number 10 with either Greene or McGrath on the left.
We should have busted our balls to get Finn.

Unless it has changed in the last few seasons, a player sent off for you today will serve the suspension in the MSC final - not in the league next weekend
We should have busted our balls to get Finn.
Maybe you did, and maybe you offered him more money, only for some reason he opted for Stephen Kenny rather than Liam Buckley

He very well may be the key palyer this season and the difference between coping without Hoban or not. While I say that i think there is plenty of goal in our midfield it would be a lot easier to be confident if we had a proper target man! I am surprised tat Rovers didnt make a greater effort to keep him though Fahey coming in probably hastened an exit, even so his quality when played in his preferred position is hard to find without busting balls.

You don't actually believe that, do you?
I thought it was a poor game tbh. Dundalk much better in first half. Pats slightly better in the second. Mistakes cost Pats dearly too

Pats were slightly better in second half then they were in the first.
Dundalk were clearly the better team right throughout the match. It hardly matters much either way as the real stuff starts next week

Crazy 3 mins in Oriel yesterday.35' Forrester 0-1 Pats 36' Horgan 1-1 37' Towell 2-1 Dundalk
Dull enough match apart from those three mins,Horgans goal was a screamer, pats had hardly stopped celebrating Forresters goal before Dundalk had equalised & then had the lead.Decent crowd at it to.
