St Pats - Cabinteely FC on the 16th February. Will be interesting to see what sort of standard of side Cabo are

Apparently the last few days have seen them sign a couple of very good players. A bit of a mix of Premier and First Division blended with a few LSL players and their own players already signed with the club. Apparently, what I've been told, a bit of a running ex-Bray theme going on.

Athlone's 0-0 looks impressive against a strong Rovers side. Expecting the latter to disappoint again this season.

Athlone looked good but sort of ridiculous to judge Rovers on half the team getting a gentle run-out.

Aye, I'd like to retract that last bit of the statement please.

Rovers should have won it comfortably by three or four goals.

Athlone keeper made a couple of v smart saves, and some poor finishing also.

Rovers had practically nothing to do at the back all game long

Rovers had the better chances but i dont think tou are giving us enough credit DRDoc. I thought we done very well considering the 2 squads. As did a few Rovers fans we were sitting with. Im quite happy with our 2 games so far.

I dunno about Rovers winning comfortably. They should have won but Athlone will be encouraged by their display. Rovers could lack a cutting edge in attack this season again but Fahy looks to have added some creativity. Drennan didnt look great last night but just played a half and maybe just looking to get match sharpness.

Not a Rovers fan, not an Athlone fan, that is just the way I saw it

You did very well to not concede I thought

What happened to Gorman last night. According to Extra Time updates, he came on at HT but went off again in the 65th?

EDIT: Nevermind, their report says Gorman wasn't replaced.

A few Pablo, Andy O'Connell, Brendan Frahill and Audi Dunlea played very well. Was also impressed with young Adam O'Sullivan who played at right back in the first half, up from the 19 team but played as though he had a few years experience at this level. Definitely one for the future.

Personally I think Andy O'Connell will do great in the first division. He'll get goals.

Avondale beat us in the Munster cup yesterday 1-0. We more or less had the under 19s playing as just 7 first team players were in the squad. Awful game Avondale deserved the win.

Wilfried Tagbo with a second goal in two trial games. Looks like he'll be signing for the season.
FAI Intermediate player of the year 2013 Malachy McDermott up on trial at the minute too after leaving the Donegal GAA panel.

Sligo 3 Waterford 0.. Sligo look to be very strong . Devaney adds good bit of pace on the right, while Sandr also looks lively. The striker Nielson looks a very good addition. They could surprise a few this season, but have to be tested at the back.

Cabinteely now on Monday who I expect to be worse than Tolka Rovers were last Monday and then Shels on Friday who are worse than both.

Not something to be celebrated too much, Harps look a solid outfit, same as last year and still toothless upfront, same as last year. If Horgan wasn't so negative you could have a good tilt at the Division IMO. Why is a right back taking your penalties and not a striker? Strange.

As for us, a lot of work to do. Without 3-4 proper additions we will be relegation fodder at best this season.

All the Harps fans were wondering why McNulty was taking the penalty too. We're fairly crap at penalties though for the past number of seasons.

We were missing almost the entire backline from the starting team last night. Ray Foy at right back and Ger O'Callaghan at left back are both central midfielders.

Would like to think we'll have a tilt at promotion this season anyway, but we are incredibly negative alright, which severely hampered us last season and I fear will do the same this season.

No reason full backs can't take penalties. Leighton Baines and Denis Irwin for example. I'm sure there's plenty of others.

Phil neal at Liverpool and ray Stewart for West Ham in the 80s. The 2 best pen takers of their time. Both right backs!

Who were Sligo playing, some year 8 team from the local school?

It was supposed to be but they were already booked to play Shams (drew 2 all). BitoRed played Ballysadore Utd who were celebrating 40 years and are looked after by Bomber Savage of the first cup winning team of 1983. Gutted they conceded.

Ya Balysadare Utd. They celebrated their 40 year so got Rovers out. It was as much a fundraiser for them as anything, with a good crowd at the game. Balysadare is a great wee football town, only 5 minutes out the road from Sligo. Really hard working club with teams at all levels and make a good contribution to local football. 3 of Rovers u19 at the moment came through their set-up.
