So let me get this straight, you supported Rovers in the 70's and maybe the 80's am I correct so far ?

Maybe I'm going senile but my recollection of games in those days where mentel at times. Running battles in Oriel, The Market Fields, Flower Lodge, Milltown and probably a few other I forget. Hardcore violence every season !! But a fight in this day and age has put you off going to games. I smell a **** take here

The voice of reason returns! Back in those days EVERY Rovers away game down the country was a running battle - those mentioned above plus Athlone, Waterford and Sligo.

Timamansio remembers Ray Treacy getting sent off all the time. Does he remember Treacy getting off the Rovers team bus in Waterford to lend a hand to the Hoops fans who were literally fighting their way across the bridge to the train station?

What goes on now is handbags, there was far worse trouble at S****horpe v Lincoln City last weekend than at Rovers and Bohs but the UK media have the good sense to ignore it. I suggest the more excitable of you on here do the same.

Now that is an absolutely excellent point.
The media here hypes up any minor little incident but in England that kind of small time stuff barely registers in people's thought process never mind make a national newspaper. I think a lot of journalists here must live very sheltered lives if they think it's worth reporting. The people talking about it and reporting it are doing as much if not more damage to the league than the hooligans are.
The fact that there is such a long thread over something like this is actually quite pathetic.

I'd agree with that. A few dozen people fighting 10 minutes away from a football ground in an incident that happens maybe twice a year doesn't warrant a 7 page thread.
