Keane's been to Turner's Cross a few times this year so he'd know of him and also know what other scouts were there.

On vastly reduced wages of course. The pay-cut is worth it for the prestige!

I'm almost sure soccer republic said Simon Madden played a great ball in for DERRY tonight on their game v Cork last fri. Thought I missed something so checked both their line up and Rovers. He is still at Rovers!!

Looks like Brian Lenihan could be off to Brighton by the weekend for €200k plus add-ons, although there were another two scouts at the game last night.

for a player so in demand I would have thought they would pull more than 200k. Maybe if a bidding war starts

He can go for compensation at the end of the season, so that limits what we can get for him. Basic business really.

A bidding war isn't very moral now is it?

What are you talking about?

Maybe so, and same might apply to us for Towell, but there is also the chance if you keep your best players you will have obviously a better chance of the 100k prize for the league and then the 315k or so for the CL next season. In saying that, I think 200k would be a decent fee for a young defender and he can be replaced.

CityRebel - You have every right to be offended. That is a scurrilous outrageous comment and should not be tolerated.
Your restraint is truly admirable and noble

Cork City Football Club can confirm that the club has received an offer for our player, Brian Lenihan, which has been accepted.
The club will not be making any further comment on the matter at this time, and the focus of our management and players is fully on Friday night’s FAI Ford Cup tie against Bohemians at Turner’s Cross.

It's from Brighton. Now they've set their stall out at 200k you might see a couple more clubs meet the valuation. Fair play to Cork for driving a hard bargain.

and making it a tad easier for other club/s to demand better offers for young star players

No, you heard right. I heard that too and remember thinking "I didn't realise Simon Madden was still at Derry". I'd forgotten he'd signed for Rovers. Good old RTE. Impeccable research as usual.

Not just RTÉ in fairness. The presenter at Pat's v UCD on Setanta said more than once that next Monday's game between UCD and Athlone in Belfield Park was a huge tie. They also had to re-do their intro when they realised they had us in the wrong place in the table. And on the bench for us was a guy who'd left six weeks previously.
