View Full Version : July Transfers 2014

I wasn't in Dundalk either though listening to the radio it sounded like we were being carved open time and time again and it could have been 4-0 inside the first 20 minutes.
After 30 minutes I decided I wasn't enjoying listening to it and went out for a few pints instead and tried to ignore livescore.
That game aside the best team we have seen has been Sligo. They battered us in Turners Cross and were apparently very good in the Showgrounds as well.

We're great.
Those Cork lads are alright. Leave em alone.
Cork are more than a decent side and will certainly offer a very strong challenge to us in the run in. I was at that 4-0 win, I'm not sure they were that bad, I just think we were outstanding on the night and it could have been 5 or 6-0. You can't judge a side on one game, it's the reaction after and apart from losing to Pats a week later, they won something like 8 from the next 9.
Anyway back in topic, what's the latest on transfers with any side? I can't see Dlk taking anyone else in, McDermott appears to be the only bit of business for us.
You're forgetting that City Rebel doesn't actually have to see a game to stop him from giving a full detailed report on what happened in that game.
Was it City Rebel who got the league of Ireland doppelgängers Christy Fagan and Anto Flood mixed up????

What has that got to do with the price of fish? And no, that wasn't me. Talk about obsessed... :D

Ah get out of it now. Joint top of the league and you're saying you'd be happy with fourth? Things have definitely changed.
We have the basis of a very good side but still have some way to go.
We are building a very good squad of young players but it will take time & anything we get this season will be a bonus.
The main thing is that we are going in the right direction.
Dundalk have to be favourites for me.
I know they have an advantage with that rubber pitch of theirs but they are a very good side.

I think that was me.
Who can blame me as everytime I saw them they were on the ground most of the time :)

I have watched Cork a few times this season and admire and respect their work rate and determination. They have attributes that can win a league title.
This year they are up against a Dundalk side who can more than match those attributes but also add quality.
That quality should count in the end.

This Dundalk side are miles ahead of Cork and the points difference between the 2 sides at the end of the season will show that.
In fact they're currently miles better than anyone else in the league. Losing only once since the first game of the season is incredible and that defeat was 3 months ago.

But unfair to imply Cork don't have quality. Dundalk just have more.

Anthony Elding sitting in the Showgrounds again for last nights game. Wonder does he regret the wanderlust ? Nutsy should make him his first signing, a perfect foil for Kilduff ... if he hasn't decamped to the banks of the Camac.

Still?
He must be settling down at last
When does the Window close for LOI players, is it end of July just for transfers within the league or can you take in or move out a player to UK for eg up to end of Aug when their window closes?

Would be a great signing for Drogheda. There'll be no shortage of takers.

Hopefully his buddy Djilali is next out the door.
Good to see the two young lads earn their contracts.

Be delighted if we sign Gaynor as rumoured, surprised Sligo let him go.

A few people in Sligo happy to see Gaynor go. Not me. Quality player never used right - played out of position. If we're planning to let players of his quality go and expect to replace them with kids we could be looking at an extended spell in the doldrums.

Just to clarify for anyone wondering aswell those yanks are from the 4th (FOURTH) tier of the Americans leagues.
Which is one tier below the ladies league afaik.

He had one good season the year we won the league and was living off that all last season. He has been terrible this season. This 'played out of position' thing is also crap. He has publically said that he seen himself as a left back and that was his preferred position. His defending is nowhere near good enough ... his positioning is absolutely dreadful and his decision making is way off. Dead balls was always his strength and they have been below average this season.

At least Djilali has improved the last few weeks but fitness is still not there with him.
Gaynor has been very poor for quite a long time. Seeing as we have nothing left to play for good to decrease the wage bill somewhat. Pretty obvious that Coleman didn't rate him.

Gaynor was always very much a confidence player! If his form dipped it spiralled totally, when things are going well he'd be a top performer. He is familiar with the Cork area after his spell with Cobh so its a plausible possibility. Kilduff to Limerick is a slightly odd one and again when both Rovers could improving their chance to goal ratios, Lims would do well to get him too of course!
Charlie Darwin
29/07/2014, 7:34 PM
Kiluff is one of the main reasons for the low chances to goals ratio. Whatever about anything to do with the club, he has had chances and he has managed to screw up more than one open goal. He'd be in double figures if he had even been in reasonable form.
Gaynor has never looked like a full back so I have no idea why he'd consider it his best position, unless he's just trying to stay in the manager's good books.

Had hoped we would get Kilduff in last season on loan before Cork made the move. Russell had him at UCD as far as I know and he'd be pretty much guaranteed a starting spot with us. Would work out good for both us and Kilduff i'd imagine. Rumours floating about we have a few on the way in before the end of the week anyway.

We're in dire need of a left back. One out for the season, the other out for another month or so. He'd be a good player in the first division. But if Cork are rumoured to be in for him, I can't see him dropping down a division.

If you need a left back I'm guessing Cousins has been tapping up Croly. An arrangement for Heaney would be good for both clubs I think.

We already have a very talented but young right back in Jamie Mulhall, not sure Cousins would go for a similarly inexperienced left back at this stage of the season. Someone on our forum was saying Cousins has been on to most of the Premier clubs though so you wouldn't know.

Pats linked with Stephen Folan in the paper today, is he any good Limerick fans?
We're also linked with Craig Curran, Karl Sheppard and Ciaran Kilduff

I think he's ok, can be very solid but also be all over the place. A lot down here don't rate him at all. Certainly not good enough for a top 4 or 5 team at the moment anyway. Wouldn't displace any of pats current back 4.

Now bare in mind we can't actually defend and Derek Foran plays for us.

Over the last number of games we seem to have forgotten how to defend also. Without Oji starting at the back our defence is very shakey. I wouldn't be surprised to see Leahy and Oji becoming our starting centre back partnership.
Have heard Kilduff to us just till the end of the season then to pats. Lee Lynch to us and maybe Shane O Connor as he is still training with the club.
