The entire pick of Shannon wouldn't win the Clare premier so dividing the already poor standard of players into another team will hardly help matters.
Two Clubs in Shannon is more than enough as stated above but why have one playing in Limerick? What does that achieve?

What will changing the name and moving pitch do though? Are players not playing with hibs based on this? Adding another club to the town would be a ridiculously bad idea, but I can't see what changing the name to newtown would really do either? And if changing the name to newtown does happen that will settle the argument that there will never be just 1 team in shannon, no1 will amalgamate after seeing park rangers/newtown be turned back into just newtown. Now it's nearly as if park rangers never existed. Nobody would risk that happen with their club.

What is going on in Shannon lads? I heard last week off a few sources that the wheels are in motion to setup Newtown again and get the interest back in the game in the town.. what is going on here

all rumours at the moment dont't know how you think Newtown re-forming will get the intrest back in game ??? current players cannot be bothered who they play for or if they will turn up on sundays shannon football at the moment is struggling to support 3 clubs dont think we need another club > as already mentioned in an earlier post were was all this intrest when newtown folded ??

the talk of a New Netown and then subsequently the Park Rangers AFC facebook page must be an early Aprils fool. If anybody had the time and effort to try and create a new/old club this should surely be used to benefit the schoolboy football and have one club (maybe two).

Funny how the people who endorsed the resurrection of newton are either mad or talking tripe. When will the people who supposedly run hibs admit that its been a disaster. Hibs football CLUB (lol) consists of a joke of a junior team and a couple of schoolboy teams

Don't panic, i agree things are looking bad at hibs and the committe have to make a decision. On the future of the club? But i have also said in previous posts that two clubs joined in the amalgamation and all the so called park rangers people ran away at the first opportunity. Why almgamate to supposedly make one stronger club and then leave the same club? So if the current. People involved with hibs. Were not willing to fight to keep club going hibs would have been gone 2-3 years ago

Fantastic result for Shannon Town last weekend. Not did they beat one of Limericks top clubs they should have won by more as they played Fairview off the park

Totally agree, great result and completely deserved. Rob Wall was man of the match, chased everything down. Good performance from the winger maxi as well, he has some pace

Great Result for ST alright. Fairview far from one of the top clubs in town these days, but either way a team from a lower division beating a Premier team is always a great result.

Good result for Shannon Town but Fairview are very inconsistent. There 6th in the premier having already lost 6 games. They knocked Pike out of Munster junior only then to be beaten by Mungret. They got hammered up in Dublin in the FAI against a team Moyross went up and hammered. The result will give Shannon Town
confidence though and hopefully they push on in the league

Very good win for ST, they have strength throughout the squad with the players the have on the bench aswel they should be pushing for promotion! Think it's moyross next in the lawson which they'd love to get one over on them having lost once to them this season already! Be great to see ST go far!

It would be a great achievement and they have a good enough squad to get promoted! But have they a good enough squad to stay up the following year?

Hopefully, few more quality players in if they got promoted and I think they'd stay in the premier div... the bottom half of the table clubs are on par with Shannon town. IMO.

Where do you think they need to strengthen though? Strong enough defence, the 5 in midfield all very good players with pace on the wings and Gerry up front! They'd need to bring players in out of town to really strengthen and can't see that happening!

31/01/2015, 4:31 PM
Yeah that wouldn't happen... Could be a few players tempted around in clubs like Newmarket, bridge, Olympic, even avenue that might fancy a crack at link premier football. The holy grail of irish football.

Massive game next if they're serious about winning promotion this season.
Football-Unites
02/02/2015, 8:53 AM
Every game from here in is a massive if they have any hope at all. Some of the teams have 4 extra games played and nearly every team has at least 2 extra games played than ST. Anyone know why they are so far behind ?
If they got promoted they would need an influx of players to try and finish mid table premier. Have they a consistent starting 11, or is the squad being rotated much ?
If they get a good run of form and build momentum, then who knows, they could sneak promotion, but it's a big ask all the same.
Two Feet Up

sure I think they should worry about getting there first. Would be a great achievement to get promoted but would need the best players in the town to sign and also get a few more experienced ones possibly from outside...

Too many teams can raise their game against better opposition, yet they can't perform the same week-in-week-out, it's a shame really. It's the same with so many clubs, players up their game to take a scalp off a better team, but what's the point if you can't be at your best every week ?
This is a prime example of this.
It happens to a lot of teams - look at Fairview, they beat Janesboro in Fai and Pike in the Munster Junior - then go out of the same competitions against weaker teams.

Town were 1 nil up with 15 to go. Gerry Kelly through 1 on 1 flicks it over the keeper and the keeper jumps and flicks the ball with his hand 5 yards outside the box. The ref gives a free kick and no card and says the keeper didnt intentionally handle it. After he said he couldn't send him off as Mungret had munster junior next week and he would have been suspended.
Mungret player said they were embarrassed with the result.
It was the worst decision i have ever seen from a ref.

And what happened for the 3 goals Mungret scored? They were the ref's fault I suppose. In all fairness, Shannon Town were never in with a chance of promotion

It doesn't make a difference lankyboy26, the above incident sounds completely unacceptable by the referee. It's a joke that he can do that and have no repercussions.
If that was to happen any team, then I can see how things could unravel for the rest of the game - seems that ST let that decision get the better of them and throw them for the rest of the game. It shouldn't happen, but it does. Mungret get lifedt up by the decision and ST
get frustrated - so in answer to your question, it pretty much was the refs fault - albeit ST should have tried to rise above it on the day and just tried to see out the game, instead I'm sure they lost all focus.

Dont believe the ref would say that as i dont think he would be suspended for MJ following week.Suspension would be served in local comp.

They lost because they conceded 3 and scored 1. Ok the ref was wrong but if they kept it together they win 1.0. Cant blame the ref for the 3.1 defeat, yes he made the wrong decision at 1.0 but refs make mistakes.

Having seen Shannon Town a few times this season, they never looked like a promotion chasing side. Wembley, Kilmallock, Newport and Mungret are better sides in my opinion and it was always going to be 2 from those 4 to go up, and it has looked like that since the start of the season

Lads, have to agree with ST on the poor decision by the ref, it was a sending off all day long. Did he not send him off as Mungret had a MJC game the following week?, only he knows that! Mike Kiely would never have admitted it to anyone if he did either. Turning point in the game was when when Jamie Cullen was forced off soon after, he was dominating the midfield up to that point and after he went off Mungret got a foot hold. ST are definitely on a par with the top teams in 1A and stranger things have happened, go on a run of wins and things can change very quickly. All the top teams still have to play each other so no reason to give up hope yet. Mungret beat Moyross 1-0 last year with around 6 games to go, after the game Moyross were out of it, or so it looked, won their last 6/7 games and won the league by 4 pts.

Shannon lite are not from Shannon they may have Shannon players but trade under the name Rineanna Rovers..
as for it is what is is ? crazy comment for a town the size of Shannon we should have better return with teams our near neighbours Newmarket have two teams and running away with premier league and b team finished 3rd in First division , tulla / corofin / bridge utd all ok in premier in clare this year so why cant Shannon produce decent teams to be up challenging for league titles

Old git you are entitled to your opinion but it what it is. Due to the lack of commitment from players. From what I can see clubs are not getting the level of commitment from players that is required to have a successful team and no matter how big a town is unless you get that commitment, it is what it is

honestly I don't know maybe not enough young players coming through and clubs don't give them enough games for junior teams but I also think they are also lacking commitment to clubs and they find it to easy to move from club to club .. so do we dare mention the old theory of to many clubs in Shannon ??
