curran is quality at what he does but doesn't get enough goals and that could be down to lack of service no quality out wide all season and no midfielder getting in the box.. he will live and die by his signings I like Horgan from cork and I see Marty waters on the transfer list along with I think benson from ucd good attacking players who will eiter provide or chip in with goals themselves..

I think Curran is top class but needs a man up top with him it winger playing off him. The amount of times he won the ball, held it up and ended up having to go backwards with it was ridiculous.

This is why if we are gonna play with one id rather it be Gaffney out of our current options. Tbh id rather we just changed the system it didnt work with the players we have and i think it is a poor system overall not offering enough support to the front men.

For me Danny Galbraith would look much better but for the system we play loads of time he got in great crossing positions only to look up and see either just one or nobody at all in the box.

Horgan looks likely to sign for an English club. Marty Waters would be a fine signing but can see him signing for a Dublin club.

I don't see the big deal with Curran good player and hard worker but doesnt score anywhere near enough wastes a lot of chances. If we play only one striker I'd rather Gaffney.

I definitely agree with you. He doesn't score near enough goals and can at times be wasteful. He'd be a perfect foil for Gaffney if we ever played the 2 together in a 4 4 2.
I don't think Gaffney would give you enough work rate to be up on his own.

It all points to the system anyway in my opinion. Unless we bring in the players to play that way, it will need to be changed.

I just hope we are working on a few players anyway things have gone very quiet about it. If we just wait and see whats left in a few weeks then i cant see us improving much on last season at all. Already missed out on 2 players that would have been great signings for us.

I presume you mean Elding and Lee Lynch? Saw he signed for St Pats earlier.
Shane Tracy and Barry Ryan are on the PFAI transfer list too. Club haven't budged on their offers apparently.

Can't wait to see a few signings being made to bring a bit of buzz back about next season.

We're usually slow movers anyway.
Priorities to sign up from last year have to be O'Leary, Tracy, Ryan, Gaffney € Oji.
We'll need a good few players in to replace what we lost.

Its very annoying that this happens every year. The whole thing this season was that Taylor would get a better squad because last season all the best were taken when he got here but all the best are being taken now and we seem to be doing nothing. No re-signings is the real worrying part imo.

It is starting to get a little concerning alright, but plenty of time to go. Taylor might be looking abroad anyway.

Even if he is it would be a terrible decision to not get in some LOI experience imo.

Plus, if you take players in who are half way through the UK season, they'll get injured. They end up with another pre season and burn them out. Happened Williams, Curran, Galbraith, Nzuzi, Axel.
I think you need a spine of players with LOI experience and add to it as you please.

Taylor will have some job on his hands next season I would imagine. Hopefully the fans expectations are kept low.

From what I've heard, he's been to see Shane Clarke and Shane Walters a couple of times recently. It will look a bit ridiculous if he wasn't good enough to come in mid season, but is good enough to come in pre season...
Needs must I suppose.
Hopefully things will have moved on a bit before the New Year and a few more will have come in or re-signed. Like Jof said, expectations need to be realistic this year with a (currently) reduced budget.

Well, if we are going in to January with no players, I presume the board will realise that they'll have to increase it if they want to get in some players who will help us improve on last year. That's what I meant.

Ah was just the currently bit that confused me. If we are going into January with not much more then we have now then it will be too late imo.

Derek Foran who was with Shamrock Rovers last season has said he is talking to Limerick. Would be a very good signing imo as long as it was with Oji and not in place of him.

Derek Foran would be a good signing. Had one two many reds but he is still a good centre half and the rovers fans seemed to like him can play a bit of ball too.

On the PFAI list there are some fine players still available but most will either re-sign with current clubs or be snapped up. Foran, Davoren, Marty Waters, Rice just a few off the top of my head.

Ill be very disappointed if we are not in for some of these we could really do with Davoren and i'm not sure how many more options he would have with the top teams mainly having left back sorted.

Foran would be quality...but the problem is that you're looking at a big outlay on wages. If he's travelling to Limerick between 3 - 5 times a week and spending €50 a trip on petrol, he's going to need to be well looked after. Either that, or move him in to an apartment, but you can bet he won't be dropping too much from his Rovers wages.

Walters looked brilliant in that junior international tournament a while back. If he was interested in stepping up I think he'd be worth a look. How old is he now?

Not too sure to be honest, he's early 20s though. Would be a nice option with his pace.

Thats a list of lads that were around the first team last season that haven't been released. Ones in bold have been re-signed.

From the list who would people want re-signed and who would be priorities? Also going by who you want re-signed what would that leave us needing to bring in?

Jofspring

Tony Whitehead , McGann?, McGrath and Feeney are still 19's so I take it you could count them in but I'd rather they be used sparingly.

Oji, O'Leary, Tracy, Nzuzi and Gaffney are priority.

Would like to hang onto Hughes but can see Rainsford going. Is he still young enough for 19's? I don't think so.

We need another 2 midfielders, two wingers and two strikers. If Oji doesn't sign then another centre half.

Those two aren't under age for 19s anymore as far as i know. Rainsford wont be released going by the way Taylor talks about him.

Any of the young lads i have left out i dont want them gone or anything but i wouldnt want them to be involved as much as they were last season until they have had more time to develop. The lack of depth killed us last season i think we would have had a better finish if we could have dealt with injuries and suspensions better and we had no luck with injuries.

Jofspring

I think Tony Whitehead is only 17 or 18.

Ya I definitely want to see them step back a little with so many 19's. I think Taylor wanted to through a few in at the deep end and see how they got on as much as having to resort to them because of injury and suspension. It gave him a chance to see how they got on. I would think Taylor will use the younger lads more sparingly next season if at all possible.

Any body hear anything on Nzuzi? Is he looking for a contract in England or is it just a case of he won't be signing till before he comes back for pre-season?

Actually now that i think of it i reckon your right about Whitehead.

Heard nothing at all about Nzuzi bar one lad saying on here he was gone.

We need to improve on last year though because teams that were behind us last season like Bohs are improving.

I wouldn't go that far I have to say, think there's some aspects of his game that will always hold him back. All that said, he's a very good player and I'm delighted he's on board for another year at least, he could be a really key player for us this season.

Well then you can just feck off and support Cork. :p. Na just imo he has been held back by not having a full pre season any of the last 3 i honestly think that if he could stay fit long enough he would be up there i understand where you are coming from though.

Ah yeah we're basically in agreement (that he's better than Mikey Rafter :p). People were far too critical of Gaffney last year when he was coming back from injury and in and out of the team, I've no doubt he'll do far better this year. ;)
