Somewhere in a dark, dingy bar, a man sits on a stool reading a newspaper and smoking a cigar. He's nursing a Jack Daniels, straight, no ice. The man is waiting for an associate. He look at his watch. "10:45" he grumbles to himself. His associate is late. He doesn't like being kept waiting. "This better be good news" he says to himself and chuckles. The bartender catches his gaze while wiping the counter. "What're you looking at"? The bartender quickly averts his gaze.
The associate enters the smoky haze of the bar and climbs in the seat next to the mysterious man. "B-b-bad n-n-news buh-boss". He slaps the newspaper on the counter. "The Irish Examiner" the mysterious man grumbles. "This is what youse kept me waiting for"?
"Go to p-p-page 42, Stutts" the associate trembles.

Darren Randolph earmarked as long-term successor to Shay Given in goal for Ireland
The mysterious man slams his fist on the bar. "That kid is no good I tells ya"!
Exactly how long are we expecting Shay to keep playing for us?

I haven't seen an awful lot of Randolph but I'd imagine he'll be doing very well to dislodge Adrian. He seems very consistent.

Probably the last word I'd use to describe Adrian.

Fair enough, I take it he makes howlers quite regularly going by that statement? Looked decent any time I've seen him to be honest.

Same here. That said I hate West Ham and only watch them if it's absolutely necessary.

That's what I'd have thought too. He looked a little ropey in his first few games but he really grew into the role and has been consistently good in my opinion, and often excellent.
He's a very good keeper in the sense that has quite a few very good games but also a few nightmares. He's mad as a hatter too. He's good to watch.

Many keepers tend to erase those nightmares from their games when they hit their peak though, in fairness. Reckon he could manage same? From what I've seen, I think he could. I'm disappointed he couldn't find a club where he'd be in a better position to challenge the number one. Adrian built up a good amount of goodwill last season and maybe he's a better keep anyway... It's a tough one.

Randolph confident of usurping Adrian.

Oh boy.
Some nervy kicking and indecision on crosses coming into his box has been noted by West Ham (http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/topic/west-ham-united-fc/) fans, though, and the 28-year-old was extremely lucky not to have bee at fault for two or three goals in the first half against Charlton.
More Jekyll and less Hyde please, Darren.
But he showed character to bounce back with a string of fine saves in the second half against Charlton and insists he made the right decision joining the club.

I read somewhere that West Ham were interested in bringing Robert Green back as well, that wouldn't be a good sign for aul Randy.

Starts today for West Ham against Bournemouth. Conceded two in the opening half, but both goals were Cresswell's fault according to the radio commentary

Did you hear this quoted somewhere or did it come from the memory bank? Barry Glendenning quoted this pretty obscure stat on the latest Football Weekly podcast. I wonder if he reads this forum.

Darren Randolph in line to start these games as neither Forde nor Given is starting for his club. Shame about Westwood but good luck to DR if he's picked. It could be the springboard he needs to kick on. He actually played well in the home defeat to Bournemouth and I'm not sure he had anything to do at Anfield!

not really, just playing in League One is doing him no favours

he's also been in an out of the millwall team this season so far, with a young scottish player keeper jordan archer playing about half the games.

To be fair, he didn't have much to do. One good reflex save from a deflected shot, but I'm not sure it was on target anyway

Sorry, but I have to bring my little fella into this again. He's a good U10 keeper and yesterday he played well, particularly reading and dealing with through balls, sweeper keeper stuff. Then after training today one of the other dads commented on it. I said "well his favourite player is Manuel Neuer". My son said "No, it's Darren Randolph now".

Randolph has started well at Anfield, very alert and composed. The BT commentator mentioned that he showed his pedigree near the end of Ireland's Euro qualifying campaign when he had a steady nerve and some big performances. I've been impressed with these English commentators Ireland knowledge the past couple of nights actually, the BBC fella mentioned last night that Hendrick is the only player to have played 90 minutes in every Ireland game this season, presumably meaning since September.
Edit - Joey O'Brien is coming on now and Randy has just made a brilliant save from a Branigan shot destined for the bottom corner.

He's looking very good in this match and it begs a question for me. He's not put a foot wrong for Ireland and I've not seen enough of him in Scotland and at Birmingham, but what are his flaws resigning him to not being number 1 at a PL side? There must be something I'm missing.

Cracking performance. Away. Against Liverpool. Well done.
Himself and Elliot look very capable when they get their chances but, unless the number 1 is injured, they're not first choice in the league. Disappointing.

On the up-side, the fact that they have impressed when given chances does mean that we shouldn't have to worry about either of them playing for us in the Euros, in spite of them not being first choice at their respective clubs, especially as Elliott is likely to play the rest of the season for Newcastle (you could say the same about Mark Bunn at Villa, after some impressive performances in January). In fact, currently our goalkeeping situation is starting to look quite good. If you look at England's situation, I think only Joe Hart and Jack Butland are playing regularly in the Premier League.
Stuttgart88

Both of them are very good, too.
I think we're OK for keepers.

I was a bit disappointed in Butland in the penalty shoot-out. He seemed to go too early and invariably picked the wrong side. I think when you see the likes of Lucas stepping up to take a penalty there's no need to pick a side, just follow the ball. For some reason I thought he'd be excellent in a shoot-out scenario which could have worked out well for England some day, for a change.
Totally agree that it's great to see our keepers come in from the cold and perform so well. Randolph has another replay to look forward to anyway at least and hopefully progression to the next round against Blackburn, when they'll be expected to get through again. Massively jumping the gun I know.

Excellent again last night, a string of fine saves. His wall let him down badly for the goal. CD might be vindicated yet although the Adrian still holds the jersey for now. The West Ham fans are starting to ask the question (http://www.westhamonline.net/forum_flat.php?8300111||1||) though.

A bit slow to react for Blackburn's goal today, a fairly soft shot from outside the box into the bottom corner. They won 5-1 though so no major harm done.
