View Full Version : Week 8/6 - 12/13 April
Galway United's horrendous year not that long ago surely?
The team on the end of the defeat don't have the problems Galway had imo.
Changes should have been made a long time ago but alas nothing was done. You simply can't teach an old dog new tricks!
Ah yer not that bad. Croly will get ye top 4.
If only he was the manager!

I know he doesn't give much of an impression of being in charge but it's a bit unfair to disown him straight after he got his first win in ages.

I thought Cork looked good on Saturday. If Kavanagh hadn't have butchered a certain goal at the start of the second half, I'd have fancied them to go on and win it. They were light years ahead of the side that came to Tallaght and really offered nothing outside of a scrappy goal.

Shels keeper Ger Hanley poor for 2 of the goals, the rest of the team a bunch of ordinary players imo.Pats had another 2 goals disallowed in the 2nd half as they turned the screw!

What's the general opinion of shels fans now, assume you would like Matthews out, and soon, but who would come in?
Any former players available, sometimes not a bad shout to lift morale a bit, what about former managers, I can't see Keely going back again. Pete Mahon?
The problem is,until this is sorted its going to become just an easy 3 points for whoever you play.

The problem for any new manager coming in to Shels is they have a poor enough team assembled as much as a manager having them underperforming. It would be a tough job to take over at this stage. In saying that any results that are better than the current ones would probably be considered a good start for him.

So, why did Shels change keeper for the night? I thought young Burdon was one of the few shining lights in an otherwise shocking start to the season?

Hanley was in goal for Shels on friday v Drogheda. It was my first time to see them this year and I thought their captain (Cassidy?) was decent enough player and Philly Hughes, Brennan and Dean Kelly showed glimpes of ability upfront so I would still give them a chance of avoiding relegation. People need to remember that there are two other bad Dublin/Wicklow clubs in the premier divison this year. Hope to go down to Limerick and see how Thomond is working as a soccer ground tomorrow.

Makes sense. Hanley is a very good goalkeeper, but I do feel it's too soon yet for him to play Premier Division football. Another year or two in the First Division would have done him the world of good.

I'm pretty sure Cassidy would have been playing for Drogheda.

He's 22 now. Still young enough for a keeper but Burdon is 19 and no one is suggesting he play in the first division
2 very poor errors for Forrester's 1st & 3rd goals

Didn't Burdon playing with Rennes youth team in France? He would of got plenty of good experience from top class French coaches I'm sure. Could be wrong though.

Burdon is by no means the finished product. He's obviously still shipping the goals, and as of yet is no Peter Schmeichel.
But the fact is, he has much more experience at arguably a much higher level in France.
I only believe Hanley needs another year or two in the First Division by watching him first hand, and I don't believe personally he's ready for the step up yet. There are better goalkeepers in the First Division in my opinion.

Limerick sliced open too easily. Through ball from the left evaded Nzuzi. Keith Buckley went one-on-one and was hauled down by Nzuzi. Alan Kelly issued the red card and Buckley's penalty is fired past Ryan.

We were terrible till going to down to 10 men and a goal behind. We were much more urgent after that albeit a little scattered. Delighted with the 3 points though. Thought we hadn't a hope when we went 1 down considering our performance till that stage.
O'Callaghan and Taylor got heated just before our goal squaring up to each other and O'Callaghan went looking for Brown after the game.

Derek Doyle did for Pats in 2010 against Galway, Vinny Faherty also did it against UCD last season, Doyle, Faherty and Forrester were all playing out left of a front 3.

Both teams were poor. I expected a bit more of a reaction from Bohs after recent results. Limerick only got going after going down both a man and a goal. Enjoyed that spat on the touchline! Great reaction from the players at the end of the match. The sort or result that can galvanise a team. For a team/squad not long together either, that's massive. Limerick should be looking to kick on from here.

Like the rovers game, I was there 25-30 minutes before kick-off so was straight in no waiting about. There was an improvement tonight in fairness that it was self scan for the tickets through the turnstiles. The previous games I was at, the people at the turnstiles were taking an age to scan the tickets, useless altogether they were!

I found that as well before, that the main delay was searchers/ticket checkers. If they have a selfscan all the better.

Both teams were atrocious for 70 minutes, Limerick started playing a bit with ten men and fully deserved their win given that Bohs were awful for the full 93 minutes.
Very little between the bottom 5 sides. I would reckon Bohs and Shels wil be fighting it out for the bottom spot.

At the moment, as it stands in the table as well, the relegation fight appears to be between Bohs, Bray, UCD and Shels.
Bohs have beaten Shels and UCD. They've yet to play Bray.
Bray have beaten Shels and drawn with UCD. UCD's only point.
Shels have yet to play UCD. They have lost to Bohs and Bray.
I'd see Bohs picking up enough points over the season to avoid being 11th or 12th.
