who did he say it to? Who are "the lads"?
The YBIG lads of course.
The YBIG lads of course.
Of course... I got the radio silence I predicted after asking that one... :D

With Leeds looking like they have blown up I would be surprised if bamford was a premier league player next season perhaps that will have an impact on his decision regarding international football.

That's correct, but I really hope Mick tell him to go f**k himself
Talk about threating us with zero respect

Went down clutching his face with no contact today and got an opponent sent off.

It was deplorable. Couple that with Mick's words during the week hardly endears him.

Not the most damning words but Bamford appears to be putting it on the long finger. With all the talk of him having an offer to study in Harvard you would think that he had the intelligence to balance a promotion push with applying for a passport that his Ireland supporting uncles may already have.

have no interest in bamford. crystal clear his heart isnt with us. enough good strikers coming through for us to be able to give him the two fingers before he eventually gives us the two fingers
Yeah, those quotes bother me too. Really keen on having him on board - purely because he is different to anything else we have currently - and said I’d give him til September but I’m quickly losing any semblance of interest.

Is he much different to McGoldrick? Any time I have seen him I liked how he could come short and go long, like McGoldrick did against Georgia. David can have a good couple of years for us now he's in the PL so Bamford isn't as essential as I thought a few months ago. What will the summer hold for our 18/19 year old lads too?
I think he is a more natural striker and a better finisher from what I have seen of both in the Championship. Generally better technique.
The question for me (ignoring whether or not he is a complete w@nker and should displace born in Ireland or already fully on board) is whether he offers more than Hogan, Maguire & O’Brien and I think he very clearly does.

But he doesn't offer more than mcgoldrick, long and possibly Obafemi. What he offers is less then 100% commitment. And thats not rock N roll for us.
But he doesn't offer more than mcgoldrick, long and possibly Obafemi.
Do you think? I don’t think I could state that with the type of confidence you have to be honest. Oba is essentially unproven, Long has been malojan for 2 years and McGoldrick is at or around the same level and if he’s ahead it ain’t by much. And he offers something different to all 3.
What he offers is less then 100% commitment. And thats not rock N roll for us.
For sure, I have covered that off above and in previous posts. All I’ve said is he told Mick he’d do the necessary at the end of the season. At that point he’s either demonstrably on board or dead to me.

He's 6/7 years younger than McGoldrick and Long anyway so he offers far more in that respect, in the highly unlikely event that our promising young starlets don't quite fulfil their potential. :)
I fully agree with Stu's assessment and I'm also disappointed he doesn't seem more enthusiastic about joining up with us. Coming in at the tail end of the qualification campaign is a bit cheeky, if it even happens.

Two game ban after making a show of himself at the weekend so not much football to ‘concentrate’ on, probably just one game.Maybe he could see his way to filling out a few forms in between and if not, perhaps it could be confirmed that the chase is over.A good player but unfortunately not an Irish one.

A playoff semi final (second leg) and potentially a playoff final to 'concentrate' on, I doubt his stance will have changed much.

With Leeds now out of Premier League contention, I bet we see Bamford come running to us now in a way to boost his profile & get a big money move. If he's motivated he could add value, mercenary or not, but will certainly put many people off.

After being banned from two games for getting a innocent player sent off. He goes and get a yellow card for diving last night. No thanks Patrick your English and have nothing in common with us

I've been unimpressed by his lack of enthusiasm but wasn't his reasoning that he wanted to focus solely on Leeds until the end of the season? Therefore if he comes running to us now he's only honouring his word, in a way. I'm not sure declaring for the BIG would boost his profile enough to get a big money move anyway. He's at his level, more or less.

He seems more of the moral standard that we have running the FAI .
Not exactly the kind of player ya want your kids watching .
Half hearted about playing anyway . Time to Pass on this guy .

To quote Duffer: 'Everyone has a tumble'. Plenty of strikers and wingers are done for diving. None of us like to see it but it's hardly a cardinal sin. Kane, Aguero, Salah, Aubamayang, Vardy, Messi, Ronaldo - they've all been book for simulation.

3 in 3 in the EPL for Bamford. Is he an option for Ireland or not? Are we still waiting for him to make a decision one way or the other?

Nah. He's not that great, Bielsa is getting the absolute maximum out of him at the moment. He clearly doesn't want to play for us and will have delusions of an England call-up now.
We should move on and forget him.

Interesting question - we were primarily talking about him switching before the Ryan Johansson issue arose - even if he declares, we've got to hope that he had an Irish Passport while playing for England underage

OK, he is clearly a high quality forward and if he had done this three years ago and signaled intent to play for us we'd have jumped at the chance. But since then Robinson and Hogan switched, McGoldrick had his late-career renaissance and Obafemi, Connolly, Idah and Parrott have all broken through with Afolabi, Odubeko, Cassidy, Kayode and Scully in the popeline. So now the prospect of Bamford switching would probably lead to a much more muted reaction, although I guess he would still be a useful short-term option if this form continues

Agree with CP that he'll have notions of an England call up now. He's kept his options open this long, he's not likely to stop dreaming now that he's actually scoring goals in the PL. Maybe we could lure him in with a place in our Euro squad, should we qualify, but that wouldn't go down too well!

He may be on a good run now but how long will it last? Generally his finishing is woefully inconsistent. He's had ample time to declare for us in the past and hasn't so I think we should focus on the lads who do want to play for us.

Hes 27, hes now moved into the Jamie O'Hara level of nonsense that we are still talking about him. Hes had more than enough chances to declare. I dont care if he scores 20 goals this year, hes not Irish.

Scott Hogan is a better forward, but didnt have Marcelo a chief. Anyway i would call him, put the ball on his side.

If I was Kenny, I’d probably make a call and ask him if he’d like to declare. Few minute conversation. Simple yes or no. And if it’s a no, then move on...
I understand how fans feel, but if you’re Kenny, you’d feel as though Martin O’Neill might not have been the best person to initiate those conversations...
I gave him until September 2019 to make a decision and that was stupid. Screw him.

Bamford improved because of Bielsa. Bielsa put him under his wings because Paddy reminds of himself as a player. Marcelo comes from a very powerful and traditional family from Rosario Santa Fé big rich province, chris de burgh was born there as well.
His family is very wealthy, real state brokers and investors, lawyers, and jurists.
His sister was a senator now she his in a government office as a chief of something, and his brother chancellor of foreign affairs. He was kicked out of football because of his background, not because he was a crap center back.
He was very well educated, etc, thats why they call him el loco, because he was already rich, he didnt need the money of football. we call this upper class people in Argentina plata vieja, means that their old money that comes from their great great great fathers and mothers.

That's ignoring Mick's attempts though, who made repeated efforts to get him on board. It seems he's never even bothered getting his Irish passport in order too, you'd think he'd do that at the very least.
He was just ignoring Mick's efforts in the end too, which doesn't sit well, but he may have been afraid of getting in too deep at that point and having to publicly declare one way or the other.
Regardless, I'd still welcome him to be honest, he's been straight up about his heavy preference for England, but also his reluctance to close the door on Ireland completely. It's not like he's been leading us on and his connection to Ireland is a strong one, why shouldn't he keep both doors open for as long as he likes?

This calls for the expertise of geysir and Charlie Darwin to decipher and dissect his message(s)You're worse than an England football fan harking back to 1966 for an event so distant it's meaningless to most people. I think it's twice in the last week or two you've done this. It's pathetic and annoying. Grow up.

Watching him here versus City. He's not very fast. Not is Kane or McGoldrick but he doesn't look that skilfull. I would be surprised if he ever got an England cap. And, given his stance, I don't think he's good enough for us to call him up.
I hope all his mam's brothers that he spoke about being mad for him to claim for Ireland are able to admire his club caterer at least.

Big performance tonight, two of his goals were absolute gems. Leeds have some very good players, Harrison, Helder Costa, the young boy in goal, but you'd have to say on current form Bamford looks like their most important player at the moment.
Surely it's worth Kenny picking up the phone, we look utterly bereft of goal scorers, and he could be our best option for a good few years. If he says no fair enough, but we'll never know if we don't try.
