Can't be stated how crap Salthill actually were though. Their left winger and number 8 in the midfield were half decent footballers, but everyone around them was terrible.

Was at that game too. Longford looked handy but the opposition have to be factored into that alright. Encouraging start though and nice to see ex-Limerick lads Corie Tracey and Bambi McCarthy doing well.

Very informative post.

Thanks to your intervention, I now know who won the league in 2012 and who Dundalk play in 3 games time. My life is now complete.

Glad to have been of help. Haven't got the weather forecast for that night yet, but I'll try to keep you posted.

Very good game in Oriel last night... Big crowd saw the ball played on the deck for the whole of the match... very enjoyable...the problem with dundalk was they had no out and out wingers on the team but all were comfortable on the ball....

Just on a side note, shouldn't finn have moved on (no offence rovers), sure wasn't he the golden boy of the league?... future international... everytime I have seen him (albeit not much at all ) he was never up to much... at 25 not much more time left to get a move to England ...

The U19s league is the only one that matters this week. Real season starts next week :)

Treacy especially has impressed me a lot the few times I've seen him for us. Looks like an excellent signing.

He's a good footballer. I think most Limerick fans would happily have kept him. Can do a decent job anywhere across the back four too.

Half an hour gone in Cobh, and they're 1-0 up. Conor Meade the scorer.

Still scoreless in Athlone

Thought people who were putting Cobh down below Mervue and sometimes Franchise Devon were greatly over-estimating the two and underestimating Cobh themselves quite a bit.

It's only one game, but still.

A draw against Shams is always a decent result but its very early days for all the mutual backslapping going on.

Bit of a desperate rearguard action for us in the closing stages, but three points from the Brandywell is a decent way to start the season.

Almost deserved a point out of it, but hard to condone us not turning up for the first half hour. Cagey enough stuff, thought Sligo controlled it well for the most part.

Hard not to consider the season that they had in 2012.

A draw away to Dundalk could turn out to be a good result for teams this season. Still, missing a penalty means it's two points dropped.

Very clearly outside if you look at the trailing leg.

It's so borderline that you can't blame the referee. One foot is outside, the other is probably on the line.

That is a super photograph to be fair.

Yeah excellent photo.
In Fairness to ref McKeon he did consult with the lino for a second opinion.

It's not even close to borderline. The tackle has already been made and the player is still outside the box.

It hardly matters.

Obviously outside the box and clear that ref and lino got it wrong. But as McCabe fluffed it / Cherrie saved it it, the refs error did not effect the result

Well his right foot looks like it could be on the line.

ah yeah I saw why you might be interested in the outcome of that game, or at least, what that outcome meant for your opponents, but we love the U19 league, back to back championships! Possibly back to back doubles as well!

When I saw it at the game, I thought it was a penalty. However, the photo proves it was outside.

No matter, it was saved. Justice was served.

They say these things even out. What are the chances of Dundalk getting a debatable penalty at Tallaght?

Hmmm.

On reflection - the referee's error does matter in that Dane Massey will be suspended for at least one match. If Massey's first yellow card was for dissent, he can feel hard done by.

try www.aertv.ie (http://www.aertv.ie)

Doesn't work as it's geolocked to Ireland as well - tried looking all over for a stream, doesn't seem to be one.

Poor poor form RTÉ (although that doesn't surprise me in the slightest) - looks like I'll have to make do with Liverpool vs. Spurs instead

Did any players really stand out this weekend?

Watching Dundalk v Rovers Cherrie stood out because of the save but after reading other articles maybe David Cawley of Sligo an impressive performance. Anyone else stand out?

I was at the game. Seemed like a bigger crowd than that. It took over half an hour to get in before the game. Not enough turnstiles open at all. It was really badly managed on that side.

On the game itself, I thought Galbraith should have been taken off far earlier than just near the end.
