The Lions? That's a new one to me. Always thought they were known more as the Villains.

We have a shell on ours, but someone else already bagged that nickname.

I think a lot of English teams have a few nicknames though? I suppose how Sligo are Rovers and the Bit o' Red. I suppose at a push you could be called the Bulls too.

...Sligo are Rovers...
Careful Charlie - you'll get barred from Tallaght for coming out with things like that.

Ha, well I wouldn't call them Rovers myself but I'd be a bit stupid to deny that other people do.

Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that they will play Premier League side, Aston Villa in a friendly game at Tallaght Stadium in August.
The Hoops will play host to the Lions in the game which will take place at 3pm on Sunday, August 4 at the Tallaght venue.
Villa, who have secured their Premier League status for the 2013-14 season, will conduct their pre-season training camp in Germany before playing a number of friendlies in preparation for the new campaign, including this one against Shamrock Rovers.
A number of fans are expected to travel from Birmingham for the game, and it should be a great day out for Shamrock Rovers and Aston Villa fans alike.
Ticket details are being finalised and will be announced in due course
It will be interesting to see what crowd you get. There was a woeful attendance when we played them on a bank holiday 3/4 years ago. The only good thing to come out of it is that a bunch of Villa fans have regularly come back to support Bohs since and have sponsored at least one game.

Jeez, there's proof that people with St Vitus' Dance and a bad case of the DTs shouldn't be allowed operate any kind of machinery, even a smartphone. I swear, the footage of Felix Baumgartner in a tailspin looked like it was filmed on a steadicam compared to that!

UCD's unbeaten record in Division Two continues; another 2-2 draw.
Luke Chadwick scored for MK Dons tonight. And Alan Smith and Darren Potter played. I do enjoy these games!

On "franchise veterans", I met a couple of Dublin MK Dons fans who had been Wimbledon fans back in the day, but who changed over to MK Dons with the move. Bizarre!
Practically no away fans (I heard maybe 5 English accents?), which is very unusual for these kind of games. I don't know is it lazy to link that to them being a new club with less of a hard-core than other clubs.

London MK Dons fans are bad enough, but you can never underestimate an Irish barstooler.

Presumably if you're supporting a club in a foreign country and they move to a different part of their country it would have minimal effect on your support .

That's a bit unfair. Perhaps they support Milton Keynes because their favourite uncle moved there in the 50s and they've always had a really strong connection to it. Oh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Keynes).
