Was the principle cause of concern in my home:)
Well done Derry, a great game and plenty of drama - nice touch of Devine to mention Doherty's sacrifice on the day. Absolute nutter aka character Doherty imo and glad he has a medal to dedicate to his grandfather's memory.

Dying to see the dive.
Delighted for Derry. Great craic in the Derry end altogether.

Derry prolly shaded it and could be in the league shake up if they continue to improve next year, and so congrats, and Pats can count themselves unfortunate not to have got something not to have come the season empty handed.

Pulsating game.Well done Derry and hard luck to Pats (and Shamrock!).
Heard that a large proportion of the Derry fans were friends/family of just one of the players...the Greacen 2000.

Delighted for Simon Madden.
After a dire first half, really enjoyed the game. Good atmosphere at the match and must say it looked more than the 16k attendance quoted. Most entertaining game I have been to in the new LR (although thats not saying a huge amount).
Must say I was hugely impressed with Derry's McNamee, thought his touch was superb as was his general play. One to watch for the future

I missed most of the first half (lucky for me by the sounds of it!) Second half and extra-time were great entertainment. And it keeps Shams out of Europe so its all good :applause:

Well done, Derry. Enjoy Europe! Rovers didn't deserve European football so zero complaints there.

McNamees corner kick for one of their goals was top notch... patterson was immense for derry and was a superb signing for derry.. if he was fully fit all season derry would have being in the running for europe in the league.. pats tailed off badly in the closing wks of the season.wonder was that due to the trevor croly effect?

Really enjoyed the match. For only 16,000 in a 50,000 seat stadium both sets of fans made it a great atmosphere.
First half was brutal but the second half and et were excellent to watch. St.Pats played the nicer football but Derry seemed to want it that bit more on the day and were excellent on the counter attack.

First half was not the best its safe to say, but from then on it was a memorable FAI Cup final. As a neutral is was very enjoyable to watch.

Was up at the game and agree that after a poor first half it was a real belter of a match for a neutral. Great atmosphere and credit to both sets of fans. Surprised that Pats didn't start with Russell, his ball in for Forester's header chance just one example of what he can do. Pats played the best football and I feel sorry for their fans, but it was clear that overall the Derry players wanted it more.

Well done Derry, unlucky Pats. Three set pieces and two mistakes = 5 goals. But all in all a good game. as for the orginisation of the game. CRAP programme for a 5 total ****t. 6:30 for a burger and bun, 3:50 for a packet of wine gums ffs. Total lack of respect shown to fans on our side of the stadium with the second level of the stadium left in total darkness. Pre match atmosphere drowned out by rubbish music and dublin 4 toff spouting rubbish. Goals met with music thus drowning out crowd noise. Pitch of the year award at half time

I think one of the analysts (I think Dolan) summed it up about Pat's that they sometimes fail to create enough chances for all their possession and don't really have an out and out goalscorer.
Patterson looks like a quality striker any time I've seen him but has been very injury prone and missed pretty much half the season. Bar Rovers, Derry were probably the other team who underperformed in the league and finished strongly in the last few weeks, so it wasn't much of a surprise.
It was good to see such an entertaining cup final, again! Hopefully people didn't switch off after the dour first half.

A brilliant cup final, atmosphere was amazing in the Derry end and Pats fans played their part too as did both teams from the 2nd half.
Totally wrecked now after staying on Sat night and voice is gone.
Honestly felt for Pats and their fans but hey I'm a proud Derry fan so delighted with that performance.

Really enjoyable trip yesterday, great game, great atmosphere and the Pats fans that I was chatting to were sound. Have to watch it again as there was quite a few decisions (both ways) that I thought the referee got wrong. Where did the 3 minutes of injury time at the end come from?

Most of your gripes can be ignored by a fan at the stadium, but there's no escape from that music/dj, it's pure hell and soul destroying.
For a while the game was an anti climax coming after friday night's relegation/promotion life and death drama, but it took off in the 2nd half. Tough on Pats to lose another final, as they look to have a good team playing the better football.

Enjoyable occasion, a better atmosphere than most of the Ireland games I`ve been at. A great second half. Derry probably deserved to win it.
So are Derry eligible for European participation next year? I hear Bohs are going to write to UEFA again.... this time supporting the Derry application.

Cracking game, after a terrible first half. Slightly disappointed by that crowd figure too. Surely 20,000 should be an achievable target for the cup final.
Disappointing to see it dip below 20,000 after big attendances at the first two finals at the new Aviva. Anybody here suggest any reasons?
Congrats to Derry - felt sorry for Pats, but the Candystripes did look hungrier.

One thing I would like to commend is giving us ST holders premium seats yday. Ok I know they wouldnt have sold for the final anyways but still it was good to be there. Also thought it was good that the top tier was closed. At least it made the ground look reasonably full and better atmosphere. Thats partly the problem in Ireland matches where so many of us are in the upper tiers.
Not sure why it dropped. In fairness, Sligo were there the last two years and they always bring a big crowd. Brought along a mate of mine who has rarely seen LOI let alone been at a match and he loved it - hopefully another convert.

Under 20,000 ??? I would think Derry brought at least 10,000+ no? What was the actual figure and what was the breakdown roughly speaking?

Attendance was 16,000 and something. Derry had a poor season in the league, I reckon they'd have brought more if not for that.
Pat's just have a ceiling that they won't get beyond in terms of numbers (heard they had about 5,000 there?).

To be fair it was a really crap day (weatherwise) in Dublin and hardly encouraged many on-the-day types to attend. Decent match and good atmosphere from both sets of fans. have to say I thought ref did a good job.
Congrats to DERRY commisserations to Pats

Crowd was about 50/50 (based on goal celebrations). Thought Pats had slightly more but nothing to argue about
Both clubs did their best promoting the game and got many multiples of their average home crowd.
Arguing over cup final crowds kinda misses the point about crowds too

Crowd was at least 60/40 in favour of Pats, maybe a little bit more.
Would fans prefer a packed Tallaght to an empty Aviva?? There's arguments both ways I suppose.

I think it's much better having it in the Aviva - it really makes it a special occasion and raises the profile of it. On TV the crowd looked decent - certainly you wouldn't have thought the stadium was only 1/3rd full.
There's nothing special for the players and fans by playing a final in Tallaght.

Definitly prefer the AVIVA. It gives it a real sense of occasion and most of the pre match talk from the players is about getting to play in such a good stadium. Despite the fact it wasn't even half full the atmosphere made by both sets of fans made it seem like it was full.
Congratulations to Derry City. I thought they deserved it on the day.
Also a special mention to Ger Doherty and Mark Farren (even tho he didn't play). Fantastic stuff from Doherty on the day and from Farren over the course of the season.

Over 16k at it, think we ended up selling 7k tickets so with what Pats sold and guessing most neutrals going for them it was probably 50 50.
I reckon if we get there next season we would bring over the 10k mark as a lot if people didn't even realise it was in so nice of a stadium!!!
I brought 5 on the bandwagon so I did my part lol

Well done Derry. Myself and the lads I went with were supporting Pats for the day. Felt bizarre celebrating their goals though! Also thought both sets of fans were great and created an atmosphere far superior to anything at an Ireland match.

Definitely Lansdowne. I'd have the match in Tolka or Flancare over Tallaght. Really starting to dislike that ground, though can't put my finger on why. Awful location as well, no pubs around.
Thoroughly enjoyed the final now. First half wasn't great, in know, but interesting from tactical perspective.
Rory Patterson, what a guy. That's two goals in his last two finals, real 'big game player'.
Delighted to getting into Europe after the season we've had, after it looking bleak for most of it.
The team are showing off the cup in Guildhall Square at 7, which should be a bit of craic too.

I went with my fellow Shels supporting 11yo brother for his 3rd Cup Final in a row and we went in supporting Derry. It was mad how we celebrated their goals alright./ I haven't seen him that animated in a long time
The stadium definitely adds to the occasion and atmosphere. I can't imagine traipsing to Tallaght yesterday and I reckon I would be quick to come up with an excuse or two not to.
Easily the best of the 3 Lansdowne finals and despite some of the mistakes by the ref, we didn't have the absolute jokeshop that was last year.
I think on the day Derry shaded it. Still trying to figure out how that last period of ET lasted so long.

I'd have said the opposite. Derry had the crappy end well populated, the lower tier from one goal the whole way to the half way line and some people in the stand behind the dugouts, then people scattered about in the premium level. From where I was sitting it looked like Pats mainly filled part of the lower tier of the South Stand and maybe behind the Pats dugout, hard to see and then scattered from there.
If Limerick were in the FAI Cup Final I would have to say I would way prefer the Aviva. There is much more of a sense of occasion. I was very jealous of both sets of fans I have to say.

My guess is that Pats had slightly more support, but close to 50/50 anyway. One thing I noticed was that Pats had more kids/family supporters than Derry, could the distance to travel be the reason for this ? Hope it leads to a few more regulars at Inchore for them. Again great credit to both sets of fans for the atmosphere they created, better that what 80k did at the All-Irelands this year which I was at. Ref had a very good game as well. Programme was rip-off (still bought one) and so was food and drink which I did not purchase but expensive for those with children.

Congratulations to Declan Devine and Derry City and commiserations to St Pats. Really wished on a St Pats win finally. Great second half and great advert for the league. I thought Richard Sadlier was spot on at half time saying if somebody is tuning in for the first time and they base the league on the first half showing then its unfair and untrue. The second shoed two sides who played with a lot less nerve of the occasion giving us the mini classic it provided.

Definitely Landsowne. Wouldn't have been the same sense of occasion yesterday if it was in Tallaght. Players deserve to play in the national stadium on the Leagues big day too.
Absolutely gutted after yesterday, as you can imagine. Really thought when we snatched the last gasp equaliser that it was going to be our day (finally). Thought we played some good stuff, but our failing this year has not been turning dominance of possession into victories. Came back to haunt us again. Couldn't stay to watch the celebration, just too horrible. That's four losing cup finals I've supported Pats at. It's starting to get very boring now. Yet each time, we think it'll be different. I think it was Basil Fawlty who once said "It's not the despair, I can handle the despair, it's the hope i can't stand." :excruciating:
