I've heard the complaint about Celtic tops aired by lots of fans at every Ireland match I've ever been at - it's usually held in the same regard as Leprechaun beards and huge green plastic hammers. So whether people are 'clued-up' as you say is debatable.

Anyway regardless of historical ties or colours, Celtic are not actually an Irish club whereas St.Pats's are. Might as well wear Hibernian or Panathinaikos tops. Also, anecdotally, an LOI top wearer would be likely to at least wear an Ireland scarf or hat (if colour is the issue).

Call me old-fashioned, I just like people at games in regalia of the teams actually playing. Anyone who isn't is likely to be branded a part-timer, as they would anywhere else.

Horses for courses - I've heard plenty of folk completely about so-called 'nordies' supporting the republic. Makes me wanna voimit, but people are entitled to their opinion but to not know the history of Celtic yet make judgements is pure ignorance and small-minded. You can't say something has nothing to do with Ireland and is not Irish in any way because it didn't originate in Ireland. Look at some of the Ireland team, the same could be said for them, but an Irish person who has his mind open and knows his nations history knows the Irish nation is spread far and wide outside of the island itself.

BTW, no they wouldn't. I see Ireland, St Pauli, GAA tops and any green top a team wears anywehre at Celtic games. I've never seen a discussion even on it on any Celtic forum I'm on that are one hundred times busier than any Irish football forum, such as this one. We don't get as hung up about these matters and don't have such a pathetic elitist attitude to trivial matters.

I add the blessing of being British, to the distinction of being Irish.

So why don't the British Irish and the non-British Irish join forces and take over the football world? :p

Ardee Bhoy will be along soon to tell you that I'm not British & Irish.

Well, If you can find any politician of any hue from the North who claims that, I may concede on that dubious claim.

Do you equally defend "anyone's right" to boo Amhrán na bhFiann?

Yes, if it upsets that much. You'll probably find a more than a few takers at games involving 'Ingerland, The North, R*ngers, Linfield, Chelski etc.

Even if we were desperately 'upset', there's precious little we could do.

Individuals can think however they like, and people who were Celtic jerseys and/or GAA tops to Oreland games deserve scorn
There is now a dress code to go to an Ireland game??
;)

Do you actually know anything about the club's history??

So anyone at an Ireland game in a Derry top (or vice versa) is a 'part-timer' ??
What a strange bubble some people inhabit.

The National Anthem of the United Kindom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland is not "borrowed" from England. It is shared with England.
Hmm, will ask English people I know if they think it's 'shared'. Somehow, at the very least they'll be bemused.

It was politicians, of various hues, who confirmed my absolute right to identify as such.

AB - the fact of the matter (regardless of what English people you know say) is that God Save The Queen is the National Anthem of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.

Would it be deemed unacceptable to boo this thread?

Well its an us against the world attitude, in all small(possibly minded) communities who feel repressed or unjustified its a common mentality. Makes them feel stronger, a more togetherness.

I met this rabbi on the plane from boston to houston recently who had studied different "interest groups" told me something about these guys who preach the end of the world, like the mayan theory and that guy recently in the states, that the more evidence you put forward to them, the stronger their actual belief becomes and the more close knit the community becomes....

And the good Rabbi's views on the McCarthy issue Paul?

2. The IFA does not represent "Four Proud Provinces of Ireland".

True. It doesn't even represent one so any songs referring to Ulster would have to be out too.....

Incredibly childish to boo GSTQ for my money, was glad I was only walking in at that stage and didn't get to hear what happened...

Well, suppose they felt obliged to accommodate their more confused citizens. The point is not many politicians themselves bother to do so.

And?
Why would any Irish or Scots person feel any affinity to that sh*te? It's a load of old feudal drivel.

Ah ya can't beat an oul song about one family claiming a living off the state. We should write one about the Dundon-McCarthy's for our anthem.

And before anyone accuses me of being racist or bigoted, I will remind you that I love German and Greek people! ;)
