I don't think it's been a problem getting the answer, more likely what to do with the next clue, and to be honest, working back trying to figure out the last one!

Anyway:
River Clyde flows on to this Summer Bay original. (5)

Anybody?

BonnieShels

I wad thinking about Arran jumpers as that's the first island out the Clyde.

Mr A

I was thinking the Summer Bay was a Home and Away reference. But thankfully I don't know enough to take it further unless the answer is somehow Alf Stewart.

Home and Away is where I'm looking for an answer too. Original characters would include Morag, Pippa, Bobby, Ailsa. I can't find anything to link any of those names to the Clyde though.

Great Scott (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Robinson_(Neighbours))'s fat ladies? (6-5)

Edit - answer changed cos apparently I imagined those nicknames.

PI, you should get that google doodad on the interweb.

WTF?! How's "Pippa" make more sense than "Scott"?!

BonnieShels

No idea. Ailsa would also fit. I assumed that there was a love interest called Clyde for Pippa at some stage and that Stann was bring very very rude.

I withdraw my answer and activity in this thread until its answered.

Ah. You appear to have watched the show. I just figured Scott was a name (and a River Clyde reference obviously) and googled it to see if he was in the show. Given that it was Jason Donovan's character, I figured that was high profile enough to be the answer. Not exactly scientific! Then stann's revelation that A was the last letter completely threw me.

So yeah, let's just wait for confirmation from stann.

Stu, Scott was in Neighbours, the other Aussie soap based in Ramsey Street, not Home & Away based in Summer Bay. You lack of knowledge of such matters worries me. What kind of student were you?

I was a Countdown student. No time for this soap milarkey.

I think that makes us mortal enemies or something.

Ah but the next one...

I read the Wiki article on the poxy river Clyde and still didn't see anything that would fit (well by read I mean opened and had a quick look).
I was thinking more in terms of googling the potential answer (and there was only two above) and Clyde together. Though it's not the first item returned, there are several on the first page that point to the answer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ailsa_Craig)
It would seem that none of ye are big golf fans either? Peter Alliss talks about little else for a whole week every 2nd or 3rd summer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turnberry_(golf_course))

stann
16/09/2011, 12:08 PM
Ha, looks that way! Nah genuinely that was the first thing that came into my head when the River Clyde answer came up. And no doubt purely from watching the Opens at Troon and Turnberry over the years. That probably should be alarming on some level or other.

BonnieShels
16/09/2011, 12:36 PM
So I somehow got this clue right by completely going off-the-wall and still ended up wrong!
