I really fear for the Mons. Everywhere Roddy goes it ends in disaster. Expect jobs for the lads now come the summer.

Jesus got to love this league - is it April the first already!
Interestingly, that's when we play them. That'll be fun!

I have to admit I never fully appreciated exactly how many clubs Roddy played for. His pre-match superstition must've involved checking with someone which side he was playing for.

I wish Monaghan well. It's all I can do.

As Mons have little Fans who is Roddy going to argue with, Probably himself. Gud luck, sure it adds abit of colour for the league and somebody to give some grief too. lol

will ya settle children yad swear we hired gadaffi or something firstly the budget and team are set in stone roddy will either win or will lose and will stay for the season or go early doors either way he can be replaced ,Monaghan cannot be sold or bought .allready he has created a stir around the town and hopefully he can help with our attendances (if only for the rubbernecks waiting to see the carcrash). but every season the mons are write of as also rans so lets see how it pans out.

Everyone thinks...well maybe this time it'll be different, but then it's not.

Shame for Mons, first the FAI screw them..

Brilliant

Brilliant

It's about time a sedate and pedestrain club like the Mons (no offence) got a bit of excitement and controversy infused into their DNA

This will be great craic

Can't wait to see Roddy's sartorial experimentation while at Mons, I for one will be hoping he goes country gent and invests in full tweeds.

People know Monaghan now, people outside of Ireland know Monaghan.

I presume he is talking about people in Northern Ireland

All I can say is brand news suits, suits for all. Thats probably how he got the job, by promising suits and a tv show about him buying suits in Monaghan Town.

As a Hoop I have to thank Roddy as apparantely it was him who "put Shamrock Rovers back on the map". Must've been while he was leaving the games early to go to boxing matches, or having no training for days while he did other things.

Most of you think Monaghan will be a mediocre midtable team anyway, what's the worst the guy can really do?!

Most of you think Monaghan will be a mediocre midtable team anyway, what's the worst the guy can really do?!

Finish bottom of the table?
Quit before the last game of the season?
Sign Carlton Palmer?
Have a turnover of 40 players in the season?
Bring in his nutjob buddies like Willo McDonagh?
Do a runner on the fish and chip shop after their trip to Harps?
Sing vile songs about fellow managers?
Leave in the middle of matches and training?
Vandalise opposition dressing rooms?
Basically undo all the hard work Mick Cooke has done for Monaghan over the past 6/7 years?

Monaghan were only 3 minutes from promotion last season and have signed good players this season, alot of people have been underestimating how they would perform this season, until Roddy arrived

They don't think that themselves though and I don't think appointing the Rodster is the best way to go about fulfilling your ambitions, entertaining though it will no doubt be.

Some quality trolling from Roddy in today's News of the World!

"I've been out of the game for six and a half years, have met spoofers in my time but i'm glad to be here."

"I looked around the league and saw so many managers who I don't rate get good jobs. What have Pat Fenlon, Stephen Kenny or Alan Mathews ever done? None of those guys could have walked into Carlisle United and achieved what I did."

"The guys I rate the highest in the league are Michael O'Neill, Paul Cook and Pete Mahon. The rest are part of a little sewing circle and I don't want part of that."

On the sore topic of his history with relegation, particularly with Carlisle United....

"Ah, hold on. I was not in charge on the day they went down. Had I been, we would have stayed up."

"I don't need to justify my record to anyone. I don't feel the need to prove anything. What I achieved at Bohs was sensational. The club was in disarray when I arrived. When I left, we won the double. People will accuse me me of shooting my mouth off. But it is a fact. I introduced full-time football to Ireland. I introduced Glen Crowe, Kevin Hunt and Jamie Harris to the league."

"At Carlisle, I guarantee there is not one League of Ireland manager - including Pat Fenlon - who would have kept them in the league. When that happened, I received faxes from Alex Ferguson, Lawrie McMenamy and Barry Fry, men I'd never met, congratulating me on the job I'd done."

"Dublin City were doomed when I arrived. I had no chance there. At Shamrock Rovers, there was no money, but we had a team containing Paddy McCourt, Brian Shelley, Jason Gavin, David Mooney and Barry Murphy. Had they the finances they have now then I would have dominated the Irish game. I don't hold a grudge against Rovers for that. They were rebuilding their club and wanted to move on. That's fine. What I couldn't get my head around was the fact it seemed to be a case of everyone saying 'don't touch Roddy'. Why no club would take a chance on me was baffling? I felt I was being black-balled. Something was wrong. And it it not me"

"My record proves I haven't got a bad eye for players. So I'll discover talent. People don't give Roddy Collins credit. They laughed at me for applying for jobs. Is that a sin? Is that a crime? I'm here because I am excellent at what I do. I've a desire and ambition to fulfil things in management. I study football morning, noon and night"He's back alright :D

That press conference was hilarious!!!

I know! There were bits that were missed that were great fun too. The excitement and anticipation in the air was palabable and everyone was giddy. The room was full of people, local business men, councillors and fans of the Mons which was great to see. At last our club has some support locally.

I believe that there were 2 fellas in a pub the other night who have never darkened the door of our ground, arguing over whether Roddy would be a good manager for us or not. Hopefully (when its not snowing) they will come out to our games to settle their argument.

will appear back on d'telly!!!!

Back in the early 80s, ads started appearing saying things like 'Big Ed loves Mona'. Of course, nobody had a feckin clue what they were on about until the awful truth was revealed. Big Ed was some sort of cartoony character and he was a big fan of Mona yogurt.

Does he have to work with "400 bosses"?

I didn't want to say anything until now, though this press conference is brilliant. Roddy is the only man who can drive very sane people mental, I've seen it first hand and seen the damage he can do to people and clubs. Underneath his bluster he has a basic knowledge of the game, heavily relies on others for player tips (he hasn't got an eye for players) and is the consumate bully. Behind it all he is a very damaged and fragile person, his dishonesty masks a fear of everything and it is better for him to get out of the public eye as manager of the Mons, though he won't be able to do it. If he were to just step away from the limelight now and work on players and tactics, then he could do something decent, however..........

I wish Mons luck, they're a decent club, they've a dangerous man in charge - in the press conference he "took Fabio out to Malta", indeed, recommending him to go to his own clubs hated rivals. Looking forward to seeing Carlton Palmer turn up in Oriel :-)

You might say that but I couldn't possibly. :-) Only a few weeks ago Rod seemed to miscount his former clubs, maybe he just wants to put the nightmare that was Bohs behind him!

So far he has kept to his word of bringing in young locals and recent U16 Dundalk Schoolboy league champion player Kevin Loughran made his debut last night with another U16 Garbhan McKenna on the bench. Both these lads are hot prospects for the future and are being watched by UK clubs so thank you Roddy for giving them a shot!

Rumour had it that we were going to be taken over a few years ago by Collins and some developer. I wanted it to happen for the good of the club, and I didn't know much about Collins at the time. Thank God it didn't. Apparently said developer did't have a pot to **** in anyway, but Roddy would have killed the club, and eventually me.

LTFC, I think there were a few involved then, but luckily for you guys they saw through the smoke and mirrors and ran them out of town. According to the man it was down to the LT secretary asking for a bundle, though this turned out to be nonsense. All I can say with back up is that somebody or some people in the Farney are going to lose their marbles, and shirt. As my other half said (as we watched MNS) - "give it six months". Half of me hopes she's wrong, the other half can't stop giggling!

Magicme
20/03/2011, 1:10 PM
Phew, am glad its in the Farney as that only refers to Carrickmacross and a few townlands/villages around there. You can refer to us as Oriel if you like as it has nothing to do with Gah bullcrap names and more to do with actual history.

Its no big secret that Roddy has had difficulties but I for one am willing to give him a chance and I know am not alone.

If you knew our chairman and our committee you will know that we wont be taken for mugs and you will know that Roddy is the right man for the job for us.
