From Teamtalk's paper round-up: (http://www.teamtalk.com/papertalk/6631605) West Ham table £4m bid for Liam Lawrence, Wolves in for Paul Green.

i think lawrence has signed a permanent deal with portsmouth..

I think that's just that the contract signed in August has finally gone through. If Portsmouth get a good offer I think their minders will strongly encourage them to sell.

Looks like Birmingham are in talks with Keane. I'm sure Brum will pay approximately six million pounds for Keano, and the deal will come down to whether Robbie is willing to take a pay cut/go to Birmingham.

Just watched Blackpool vs. Birmingham and I thought Carr played well again. He got me thinking about Finnan. I don't believe he ever officially retired. Anyone have any info on him and is there any possibility of him finding a club this month?

Conor Powell has joined Colchester on an 18 Month Deal, seemingly to replace Irish qualified Marc Tierney, who is rumoured to be going to Coventry as competition for Stephen O'Halloran.
They've also (edit:not) permanently signed Dave Mooney.

That's not Conor Powell in the picture. I think it's Williams off Fingal.

Saw on SSN yesterday that David Forde at Millwall is the subject of interest of a few PL clubs. Cant remember who the clubs were, will try and find link.

Jim Goodwin joins St Mirren. Wasnt he part of the Kerr under age winning team.......the one that beat Italy I think. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6638294,00.html

Stoke deny any interest in Stephen the great.....good for them

I don't think he'd find it easier to get into any of those sides than he did at Stoke.

He would definitely get in the team at West Brom, can't see him getting a game at Newcastle though. It is too bad that Steve Bruce bought Muntari today from Inter, because Whelan would fit in really well at Sunderland in my opinion.

Not sure he could get a game at West Brom if a fit Steven Reid can't.

Reid was injured for most of the season, before his current injury. He did play two complete matches as a right-back a couple of months ago.

Yeah but when he's been fit he's been used as right-back cover in both divisions.

shane long is being linked with a move to west ham.. don't know where i saw it but it was about ten minutes ago on the internet. that should surely be good enough for a transfer rumours thread.

That has surfaced at the weekend alright. Hard to know what would be best if it came to pass? Reading have a good chance of getting to the playoffs and if they do so, the chances are Long will be key to that. A summer move would be really likely if they didn't get promoted themselves, whereas a move to west ham now could just as easily end up in relegation.

Bit disappointed with this, was hoping to see him break into an average Blackburn side this year.
If it goes through, that's both Keith Treacy and Alan Judge that have moved on from Rovers in the last 12 months.

Not necessarily a bad move for Judge as Notts County are doing fairly well lately.

Played for us at u19 level in 2009 I think. Checked out a Barnsley forum. Some think he wasn't given a chance, others think he wasn't up to it. Seems he was poor for their reserves all season this year. Maybe he will get a chance in League 2 or even a lower level SPL team or something.

In fairness I think Treacy's move to Preston has been a positive one, despite the team's woes he has played well as an individual.

The Irish Times reporting this morning that Stoke have received an offer from a Premier club for Glenn Whelan. One would imagine it would be a mid-lower range club, WBA and Wolves are both reported to have been interested, also think he might suit Wigan.
Either way, hopefully the move is completed and he starts getting some gametime.

I don't know who or how he's managed to impress recently but he could do with some games right enough.

He was pretty effective for Stoke last season, and they simply upgraded on him this year, complimented by an injury that he had that stunted his pre-season and meant he was out of the side anyway.

Just looking at Wolves, I know Karl Henry is the main man in the middle for them (captain too I think) and that Foley has played there a little bit, but after that I'm not sure who they have. So it would be a good shout for Glenn if they were interested.

Always feel he gets a bit of a raw deal from some on here. He's far Cesc Fabregas, but as a player that keeps the ball moving and involving those around him he's very capable. It's for that reason I could understand Di Matteo being interested and Martinez as they like their players to get the ball moving on the deck.

Charlie Darwin
12/01/2011, 5:50 PM
Dave Jones would be Wolves' version of Whelan - solid, hard-working, free-kick specialist. He's injured at the moment and has declined to sign a new contract so could be off in the summer.

I hope Whelan finds a club soon. I was looking at a Stoke forum recently and was surprised to learn that Stoke don't have a reserve team at the moment, and a quick google shows that they withdrew from the Premier Reserve League. It shows why Glenn has been so rusty for Stoke - no games whatsoever.

The (more sensible) fans on there seem to think Glenn's had his time at the club, but commend him for what he's contributed. They think he's a tidy, hard-working player who'd be better suited to a team who allows him to get on the ball more.

Agree it would be a good move for Whelan - not so great for Wolves though!
