No, I suspect Dev would have defaulted on our debt.
Our debt? You mean the bank debt?

I agree, Dev would not have tolerated turning bondholder bank debt into sovereign debt.

Maybe I missed something but has Dev come back from the dead to lead the country again?

Yet again we can't seem to get away from the first half of the last century.

Why not go back further? There's no way Brian Boru would've engaged in bailout negotiations with the Germans. No doubt Cú Chulainn would've stood firm also, assuming he wasn't otherwise engaged in a cattle raid in Cooley.

The reference to Dev was was made in conjunction with Ó Cuiv and besides, we all know that at least Dev was real, whereas Cú Chulainn is another Nordie myth.

Dev is certainly more myth than fact these days. Like most former politicians

No, I suspect Dev would have defaulted on our debt.

More than likely he would, but it might have ended up like the Land Annuities and Economic War in the 1930s. Of course, being FF, withholding payments from Britain didn't prevent them collecting the monies from the small farmers they were supposed to represent...

I hate that his ghost still hangs over the nation through the cult. Hopefully soon it will be all over.

Back to the budget, the goon Gogarty came out today while he will vote for the SW Bill he will request changes to it.

I ask ya. I'm glad to see he feels strongly about something and doesn't sit on the fence.

CSO have released loads of stats today further exposing the devastation of FF/GP's campaign of social and economic destruction upon the citizens of the state

QNHS Q3 2010, Long-term unemployment 47%, Unemployment/underemployment at 22.6% - http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/labour_market/current/qnhs.pdf

Uh-oh stagflation coming around the corner? , CPI up 0.6% (November 2010 compared to November 2009) - http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/prices/current/cpi.pdf

Economic Depression continued, GDP down 1.2 % (Q2 2010 compared to Q1 2010) - http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/economy/current/qna.pdf

These 6bn of cuts will ensure that we'll be turning the corner alright, into the corner of economic abyss in 2011

Someone on AAM calculated a couple of days ago that the low-paid self-employed - of which I am one - will see a tax increase of 6%. I've underlined that in case you missed it. So we pay 6% more PAYE and PRSI, and do you know what we get back from that on the dole if we lose our jobs if our companies go bust? Nothing. Not a sausage.

Not a lot of ROI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rate_of_return) in my paying taxes. Speaking as a businessman.

Well that's all down to the fact that PRSI is sold as a contribution when its really just another tax.
It always seems that Irish Society is out to get us all. Everything the State is involved in give or take just feels regressive and that any contribution we make seems to make next to no difference unless we're connected to something or someone.
Anyway. Happy Thursday.
