Dundalk FC Direct from Oriel Park (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dundalk-FC-Direct-from-Oriel-Park/273061602083)
Alan Cawley has announced his retirement from football. Alan played with Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, UCD, Shelbourne, Longford Town, Waterford United, Bray Wanderers, Saint Patrick's Athletic, Dundalk and Portadown. Alan had an unlucky time, to say the least, at Oriel Park last year. Everyone at Dundalk FC would like to wish Alan the best of luck in whatever he does in the future.

Can players start playing straight away even if they played with another club before the Irish transfer window closed or will he have to wait till the new transfer window opens? I know he is now a free agent but he has played for a club since our last player registration deadline.

According to extratime.ie he has signed as an amateur and maybe available therefore for the cup match in early June. Think this is the same kinda stuff that prevented us from signing Sam Malsom last year, he played as an amateur or something for a non league side in England and was deemed as signed.

I would be amazed if JP Gallagher was eligable to play before July.
He transferred from Linfield to Dungannon Swifts on January 6 and seems to have played for Dungannon in March.
http://www.tyronecourier.uk.com/articles/sports/19520/henderson-off-as-swifts-defeated/
As this is after the close of our last registration window I can't see how he would be able to transfer till July.
AFAIK the only circumstance where a player could be signed to play now is if he is an "out of contract professional" (as at the close of our registartion window) signing on professional terms. I think the suggestion of him signing as an amateur will not be of any benefit to being cleared to play

Kinda like Michael McGowan signing for us last year who was a free agent at the time of the close of the registration window and still a free agent by the time he signed for us.

He seems to have improved since hes playing been for yous, maybe its helped him pick up another contract with Reading. I wonder would more young players move over on loan instead of heading to lower League clubs in England

Stephen O'Donnell (Kildrum Tigers)
Sean McCarron (Kildrum Tigers)
Both will be very good additions to our side. McCarron was at Derry up until last season and was rated highly.
O'Donnell was at Harps before and made a good impact, had a few discipline problems both at Harps and Sligo but has matured since and will be a great addition.

Naturally your pithy assessment of Michael Hector should be accepted without question over the opinions of Reading manager Brian McDermott (who just gave him a new contract), Ian Foster (who has selected him ahead of the experienced Shane Guthrie and had agreed an extended lloan deal with Readinig) and Dundalk fans (who voted him player of the month for April)
Hector is an 18 year old who is not afraid to play football as opposed to normal centre half hoofball. Although prone to some lapes of concentration this is a guy with a great future ahead of him. After a dodgy start he has shown what an excellent footballer he is and has done really well so far at Dundalk.

He gave the worst single game performance I've seen in years when Pats played Dundalk earlier this season.
I had assumed his recent selections had been a result of Guthrie's injuries and Dundalk's small squad.
But this is, of course, only my pithy assessment

This assessment is based on one performance. Any player can have a bad game. Hector is far from been the complete centre-half but he has the raw materials to become a good player. He is only 18 and is prone to the odd mistake but he has put in some great performances for us since he arrived.

But he didn't play centre half in Sligo. He played in midfield, with an injury. But let the Sligo fans believe what they want.

Hector will be a very consistent player provided he never has to play against Shamrock Rovers.
