Adam, next time your missus makes banana bread get her to try a wee recipe my son came up with when he was 12 (and also made a mean banana bread but teenage years have hit and he no longer cooks or bakes :-( ) Use the banana bread to make bread and butter pudding and add melted chocolate to the custard in the pud. Chocolate Banana bread and butter pud. It is absolutely devine. 2nd nicest desert I have tasted (after my Son's chocolate mousse pie that is!)

It is....dangerously delicious! He said that he would make that as his signature dessert (done in lovely little ramekins of course) if he ever became a fine dining chef.

Stann,

Not really a fish lover but was thinking of trying to start eating it (just cause its good for you), Ive had a bad experience once, i tried smoked salmon on brown bread, was terrible.
Ive been told that not all fish tastes like that but still i have that thing in my head that puts me off fish.
Anyone know of, or could recommend some sort of fish that doesn't taste as strong a salmon so i can get started.

Something like cod in breadcrumbs would be very mild and tasty. Baked Salmon is lovely too wouldn't be a fan of the slimey smoked salmon on bread myself but love fish in general.

Stay clear of anything smoked as that gives it a strong flavour. Fresh steamed salmon doesn't have a strong taste likewise cod or haddock.

Ah, serious advice...
Well I was never much of a fish lover, but am trying to be better too.
From that point of view, I'd say firstly to stay away from smoked fish, obviously, but also salmon full stop SM, even unsmoked salmon is a very fishy fish.
White fish is a better bet - cod, hake (nicest IMO), haddock, coley etc.., though it can sometimes be a bit on the bland side, and I find it can be hard to do it justice at home.
I would recommend starting off by having fish if you're out, and go from there. Would wholeheartedly recommend monkfish, seabass, or sole (you don't see so much of this any more).
Monkfish maybe best place to start as it's a big, meaty textured fish that would appeal to the greatest carnivore.
Just don't ever google a picture of one!

I'd agree with stann on white fish, particularly cod and whiting if you were turned off by smoked salmon. Breaded fillets are lovely. If you like them, try haddock and salmon fillet, poached or just microwaved. Don't forget to try smoked salmon again later if you take to fish. Barbequed salmon is gorgeous too, just had some for my lunch!

The best type of fish comes in batter from the chipper.

Battered cod and breaded cod (at a push) is the only type of fish I'd touch, bar a bit of salmon occasionally and tuna from a tin.

Anything else is vile.

Just back to work after a few days off.
I went to chipper the other night after few pints and had cod in batter with curry chip. I was surprised to how different it was to the smoked salmon (yuk). I did enjoy it but not as much as a burger. Saying that, i would try it again. Cheers.

For some reason I found myself eating chocolate covered peanuts as I was waiting for stuff to print off. I'd breakfast at 7 today but somebody will find that their remaining treats have disappeared - I've narrowed it down to 3 people, 2 I can buy off with kitkats, the third won't notice I've eaten their stash, so I just say nothing
