It's the now standard notation Europe wide for winning 10 domestic League titles

Pretty sure the Italians and Germans started the practice years ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_(football_crest)

Shels were the first to have one in this country - followed by the renters and then Wexford Youths.

Wexford are taking the michael with their stars for winning underage competitions I reckon. Reminds me of Man City adding stars to their new crest because it looked good.

is it balls?! Its official in Italy, and thts it. After that its just up to clubs. Celtic had a "platinum" star on their kit to rival Rangers five gold. Aberdeen had 2 for their two european trophies (one of them the Super Cup). jaysus even Wexford have a couple of stars for the Youth inter county cups they've won

No problem with any club sticking a star on their jersey but its not official, and there's nothing stopping any club from having it

What I meant was it's standard to particular Leagues Europe wide - such as Italy, Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Netherlands, etc. - who each have their own way of doing it.

People generally know what the star does denote - that's my reasoning behind the "standard notation" comment there.

Does the Pats Jersey not look alot like a Cork one of old? Maybe it's just the sponsor.
Maybe Im just mad,
Maybe both,
Maybe I need to do some work rather than posting on here,
Maybe I sould stop saying Maybe?

Limerick have two Stars above the crest. As dodge says it doesn't really mean anything. Limerick could say its from winning two league titles but really it just looks good.

The St.Pats jersey looks well in that close up picture, cool the way they have the bigger faded crest in the background.

Not true, we had a star before shels were even founded ..;)

The first colours of the club were white shirts with two red down stripes and a red star on the right side of the breast with black knicks. This was not the first choice but because some members found where these could be obtained at a very attractive price. The famous Red and Black colours were officially adopted in 1894,

Looking at the photos - it's the same main Umbro template as used for the Sweden National Team and Glentoran jerseys - as well as the current Premiership Referees Kit

Quite like it

I am pretty sure that the star on Drogs jersey is a symbol of a a particular event in Drogheda a few hundred yrs ago.. I remember reading an article on that a few years ago...

The star and crescent are part of the Drogheda town crest. I heard somewhere that it's to do with Turkish ships visiting the port but I've no idea if that's true.

They were delivering materials for the new stadium, but unfortunately they were eaten by dragons just outside the port.

When is the new Pats one on sale?

I've a mate in England who sees himself as a Pats fan (due to me and CuanaD taking him to Richmond once!) who could do with a bit of cheering up at the moment, might get him one...

does anyone else sponsored by umbro (bar renters and bohs), have their jerseys on sale yet????

obviously we just announced our sponsors this week, but rumours on our forum are saying late May or early June, surely it doesnt take 3 months to get jerseys off umbro, altho if past season are anything to go by, it does :rolleyes::rolleyes:

are any other clubs experiencing the same problems??

cheers

I heard that particular design is being kept.

The black and green one was actually the 3rd kit. The green and blue striped one was the away jersey.

Problem may arise if you get caught in the tidal wave of EPL jerseys that come out every year. Happened us before that new jerseys were delayed for months due to Umbro focussing production on EPL jerseys (obviously a much bigger market). Not saying this is what has happened you but could be a factor.

Heard we're keeping the Home jersey and a new Away jersey to replace the Black and Gold one (Jako apparently not making it any more)

Usual lead time for custom made jerseys is 3-5 months. Given that Pats only announced the new sponsor yesterday and even allowing for the fact that the shirt was already designed it could easily be May before they have replicas ready. This isnt the fault of the manufacturer. Its nobodys fault really it just takes time to make stuff!

And that's the sultan's ship too ... it's an urban legend. The crescent and star are from the seal of King John who gave the Drogheda (and Dundalk) its charter in the 12th century. http://www.ngw.nl/int/ier/d/drogheda.htm

Love the new Pat's kit.

Pats jersey is nice alright...kinda 80's retro look to it.

All the umbro rigs are nice in fairness, some are just ruined by the team sponsors on the front.

As for ours, the "artist impressions" look a bit much, hoping the real thing looks a bit more simplified, and I hope the sponsor logo is integrated a bit better ruins the top a bit at the moment.

First Division kits are all here.

http://www.sportsfile.com/id/405271/

Here's my best and worst jerseys, both divisions...

Best: Monaghan United's looks great, Pats and Bohs efforts are retro-tastic. Derry's kit is nice too.
Worst: Drogheda's sponsor logo looks dreadful, Galway's kits look quite cheap. UCD's sponsor kinda ruins it too, but the kit does look good apart from it.

What's Cork's FORAS kit going to be? Same as Cork City's? And is Wexford County's colours going to be pink first choice?

Well always seeing as its your first ever kit

Cork City (1984) haven't always had a green kit. They've had white as the main coulour, and of course the red to replicate their GAA county colours

Yeah, but "for the most part" isn't the same as "always"

Without checking I'd say your home kit was more white than green for most of your history. Granted its nearly always been the same 3 colours in a variety of styles
