Cantona is a moron. That interview a few months back in fourfourtwo made it obvious to anyone who didnt know. I would feel better if he wasnt on our side.

He's like Roy Keane, he just talks.

Both of them said what they said to be different. If the situation were reversed they would switch opinions. Like politicians is all im saying. Meaningless words.

Exactly, it was an insult to fans that he expected us to buy into that performance, the fact that he waited until FIFA announced that a replay was impossible before saying the match should be replayed further demonstrated that he is only trying to protect his public image, for me he is more despicable than out in the open cheats like Ronaldo.

Ah isn't Henry such a nice guy. Waiting for FIFA to make their statement that a replay won't happen and then he comes out saying it is only fair there is a replay. If he feels so stongly about it why doesn't he refuse to play for france againg until they write to FIFA asking for a replay? And as for Wenger wanting a replay, sure he has to say that or feel the wrath of Brady
Agree with you about Henry but in fairness to Wenger he did offer a replay to Sheffield United about 10 years ago in a similar situation.

Henry would have been better off continuing to celebrate then his fake consoling of Dunne. If Dunne hadn't had his dream shattered he may well of wanted to stick the head in Zidane style after listening to henry's "guilt'

Time to think of the Euro's now and tweak the team just slightly. no one will want us to be the third seeds in their group.

The fall guy.
The Indo (Fanning) (http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/domenech-blocked-replay-1950705.html) is with the "revelation" that Domenech was the sole obstacle to the replay proposal.
I suppose after the public outcry in France there would be some slipping and sliding to put it all on the scapegoat manager. The FFF let it leak out that the attempts to restore French honour have been scuppered by a greedy Domenech.

Maybe Henry should have said that Domenech made me do it.

I just heard the reaction at the Barcelona game last night. Quite something from the crowd.

It's not just Ireland & UK that's kicking up a storm obviously.

He'd be 37 so it really would be touch and go. If he was an outfield player there would be no chance, but he might just be ok in terms of age next time.

The Bilbao fans were always going to react like that though, it's just opposition fans using anything they can to insult the other team

I would still doubt that the vast majority of them care that Ireland have gone out though

I hope so, and I think he might just be okay when you look at the likes of David James still being in contention to be England's No.1, he probably will be too

I would imagine that the worst reception he would get would be in the Basque region, so playing there first was always going to be tough. He is going to have to deal with this everywhere though

I guess much of it will depend on what reserves we have who are younger... Maybe there are some young keepers out there who will step up to the standard over the next four years... Redmond (who will be 25ish) or Murphy (will be 31) maybe...

Pat Jennings and Dino Zoff were 40 when they played in their last world cups.

That's rich coming from you having read the nonsense you've been spouting on here the last few days. What exactly is sensationalist about it?

If there were meaningful punishments given retrospectively for blatant instances of cheating like this it would undoubtedly reduce the frequency.

Instead the clubs kick up when it's tried (Raul v Leeds in 2001, Eduardo thhis year for example) and have bans resinded so players get away with it and keep doing it. What would be wrong with a deterent?

Morbo

Unfortunetly I think he is probably right about Given not playing in another World cup, Given may still be around in 4 years time but I don't fancy our chances of qualifying without Trap and the likes of Duff, Dunne and Keane probably gone and the likes of O'Shea, Lawrence, Hunt will probably be on the decline, hate to be so negative but I don't see our younger players stepping up to the plate and replacing those guys. I fell the Euro's may be our last chance of qualifying for a major tournament for quite a while.

I'm sure he'll stop worrying that much to sign his many World Cup Sponsorship deals making him a nice tidy sum for when he takes his place on the pitch in South Africa in the summer.

He'll dry his eyes long enough to count the big wads of cash placed on the table in front of him.

But hey - who cares about that - at least you've shown him not to engage on an Interweb site - bravo to you

Im angry and annoyed as anyone else about what happened last wed, but there is a line. I supported the campaign to get a replay but whatever hope for it was there is gone now.

The likes of the SW journalist attempting to get Henry to sign a big apology poster is just embarrassing.

So as the dust settles on the last few days, the hopes of a replay are gone, our WC dream is over...............what can we take from this?!?!?

Should we now deliberately coach and encourage our players, our youngsters to cheat wherever possible in order to get the right results?? As long as we get the right result, thats all that matter, worst case scenario....a few days of bad press.

Id sooner have us going to the WC by less than honest means than not going to the WC with the goodwill of the footballing public behind us. By the time the draw for the WC comes around, for the larger part the means by which France got through will no longer be a big talking point.

Sad, that the game we all love is now at this level.

Apparently Henry has been chatting again this morning (I havent got the quotes - couldnt be arsed looking but it was on the RTE Sports News Bulletin)

Along the lines of,

He has been considering international retirement, he has felt very alone in the aftermath of Weds, particularly the FFF who did not speak to him until Friday (ahem cough cough was that before or after your statement Thierry?)

Bless him, I suppose he thought I might as well play at the World Cup and make all the hassle worthwhile...

More politicial meandering.

Henry: "The day after the match, and the day after that, I felt alone, really alone. It was only after I issued my statement that the people from the French Federation got in touch."

There is no way he suggested a replay before he was in consoltation with the FFF. He waited until they ruled it out and then tried to act as peacemaker

The rubbish that Henry has spouted in last few days has made me hate him even more. In his interview after the game he didnt give a toss about replays or even consider he did anything wrong. Then he seen the world wide reaction and now we are being told he considered retirement. His PR machine has kicked into overdrive trying to get back his image.
I still put most blame on the linesman but Henry is a slime

Henry is now trying to turn this around and make himself the victim. But his true feelings are shown immediately after the game when interviewed, he laughs when the reporter asks him if he should have told the referee right after the goal about the handball.

Domenech has said on French TV this evening (according to L'Equippe) that he did not stop the game being replayed. He also said that the bonus being payed to him by FFF for getting France through to the finals is not 862,000 euros (as reported elsewhere in the French media). Henry is complaining in L'Equippe about all the ex-players (some in France but especially those in England) who are not 'backing him' (his words). Backing him?
