Anyone know if there's a foot.ie meet up for a few drinks around christmas time?

There's usually one in Dublin, despite the usual complaints of Foot.ie being Cork-centric. :)

I guess you're organising it this year now, first to bring it up an' all!

Goodman/woman Rafa! My annual chance to disgrace myself in person to the foot.ie fraternity.

Ah I remember stumbling around the streets of Dublin with Kingdom Hoop and Bluebeard one year, good times :)

Probably wouldn't be able to make one this year, absolutely swamped with college work at the minute and it doesn't look like letting up til May

I'm up for it! :)

I think it's important to take control, set a date, time and plae early on so people can plan, or request in be changed plenty in advance.

Dublin, Dublin, Dublin!!! :D

Does one need a certain number of posts or thanks before they qualify for an invite to the knees up?? :)

872 posts I think, unlucky though.

The other thing is, we need plenty others to commit before we can really plan something. There's probably a few people watching this thread, unwilling to commit in case they're the only ones and then finding themselves going to Porter House in mid-December to meet two people from the Interweb...:p (like last year... (http://foot.ie/forums/showpost.php?p=1071157&postcount=63))

We need a good 10-12.

So, names here (dependent on time and place, naturally):

1. Rafa B
2. dahamsta
3. Magicme
4. MysticMon
5. Shannonman
6. thischarmingman
7. ...?

Oh dear guys you are the tonic I need after a long hard day!

So any suggestions as to where it should be? I propose somewhere that the music isnt intrusive so that we can actually here the ***** talk.

dont really know which spots are best in Dublin but do know I love Anseo bar!

I suggest the 12th December before I spend all my months wages so I can buy a few drinks!

Worst comes to the worst, we can all come round to mine. I'll bbq :)

Magicme

Are you Russian? Only friends of mine who bbq in the winter are Russian.

I think that we should skip the pub, bring the mattress out of my boot and head round to your gaff with twister and some vodka. Or to make it more suitable to this site, we could dig out the subuteo and I can kick your butts.

...if that's what they call it in Monaghan  ;)

On the BBQ front, I've had one sitting in the house unused since summer and dying to get some use out of it.

So anyone else got a better date and any choice on the bar. I was in the Gin Palace once, the night Bernard Dunne lost his title, watched it there and it seems a good big place thats not too noisy and full

So have we a decision yet Prince Charming? Need to book hotels etc so need to know. NOW!!!!

I'm up for it but the 12th is no good for me. Saturday 5th or 19th are great or else Friday 11th.. If the 12th suits other people better that's fine though.

P.S. - That's all assuming TCM lets me sleep on his comfy bed made of sofa cushions. You won't find me living it up in a hotel..

Friday 4th is great for me, I can do Sat 5th although working until 10pm unless I get a swap. Sunday the 6th is fine, although I doubt it's fine for anyone else. Friday 11th is no good for me due to work night out but Sat 12th is good. Don't have shifts yet for the following weekend but with this much notice I'm sure I could swing it.

Shall we go with either Saturday 5th or the 19th? If I don't get a swap I can be in town around 10:30 on the 5th and then I'm off the next day anyway so it does suit me in that sense. Plus, I reckon I might be able to swing a swap anyway.

Dunno if you've heard but Magicme has this mattress...?

Ha ha. The 5th suits me better coz 19th is getting too close to Christmas and will have other things to spend my money on. Anyone else want to contribute to the discussion?

Excellent, Saturday 5th December it is.

Anyone want to take the plunge and nominate somewhere?

For what it's worth I'd suggest:

Gin Palace (one of my favourite bars in Dublin, might be crowded but won't be too loud or anything and we should be able to get a table)
Porterhouse in Temple Bar (gets crowded quickly at the weekend so someone needs to be in to nab seats quickly!)
Hogans (might be a bit loud)
Doyles (downstairs is same as Porterhouse above, but has advantage of having a rocking upstairs for when we all get drunk and want to dance)
Bull and Castle (upstairs in the beer hall is a bit mental at the weekend but downstairs we should be fine)
Mssrs Maguire (never really been there on a Saturday night so not sure about it, but it's quite a big place)

Anyone else?

At the moment, I won't get there until about 10:30 (although I may be able to change that during the week) so someone else will need to nominate the time. :)

Would it start to fill up around 9.30? If HS could be there early that would be great and as soon as Mystic and I get the gladrags on we will be there.

I've no problem sitting on my own for an hour, it'll be like a night at the Belfield Bowl.. Dman can head out then when the X-factor is over... ;)

Seriously though, how about we split the difference and go for 9.00pm then?

Magicme
30/11/2009, 8:47 AM
Yeah sounds like a plan batman. We will try be there around then. I intend spending the day shoppping in Dublin with the kids and then putting them on a bus home before going to wash the city crud off and hit the pub.

Are we happy with 9pm, Gin Palace on Saturday next then?

We can get it pinned as an announcement once confirmed.

It's pretty central in fairness so we can always move if we have any inclination to.
