I think we're gonna go for Larnaca. 10 mins. from airport, 25 mins to ay. napa, 30 mins. to Nicosia. Pretty much inbetween everything.
Seems that everyone is well spread out over the island, total invasion of every resort! Great! :D

Just to let you know that taxis from Larnaca airport, i understand, are expensive for parties less than 4. Typcical €40-50 from there to Ayia Napa one way. Take into account return and the journey to Nicossia as well (for those of us sober enough to drive!)
I checked out www.economycarrentals.com and got a basic car for €121 for 5 days not bad!
Looking forward to seeing all the gang from Paris

Right thats booked with Global Travel...Its seems to be a really good deal 7 nights in Paphos. They have under cut most of the big package companies by a couple of hundred quid. Can't do much better than that without without booking everything individually yourself. I'd say they will have all their places booked well before October so get on board. 100 euro to book and no fee when booking from Ireland. Roll on Cyprus!!!!!!! :)

You'd be mad to buy a ticket from a tout for this game. The locals don't have much interest in their team so you should be able to get one at face value.

The website offering tickets for cyprus v Ireland at £125 must be a wind up. Surely they cant be serious about that... and I thought Ticketmaster were 'unique'
For those still trying to secure accommodation in Cyprus, Ive found

There will be no priority given to block bookers who have lower numbers on the list. He said that they will be trying to give every block booker that applies tickets.

Yeah, I'd say so.
But most of us will be there long before that so we should be able to arrange something.
Some of the bars might even arrange a bus if they get the numbers and you promise to drink in their bar on return.

There's about 15/20 of us going from Waterford we booked it last Oct for €475 a skull, for a week, and staying in Paphos, Was in Cyprus years ago, stayed in Limassol, and it was a nightmare with all the British Soldiers mooching around, so looking forward to Paphos, well outta the way

...just for reasons of security, can you let us know where we should avoid so as not to get involved in any ****e with the British soldiers in Cyprus....For those of you who went with FUNTREK to Italy in 1990 and remember the scenes at the railway station in Palermo after the match, I really dont want to have to run another 200 metres in 20 sec flat... Im now 15 years older and dont think the legs will do it for me anymore

I stayed in Limassol for the last trip to Cyprus when Ireland played and had absolutely no hassle with the squadies. Friday night was their night out and certain journalists from the Star were trying desperately to get a 'story'. In the end the squadies just kept to themselves and there was no hassle whatsoever. Their superiors (the red caps?) are always knocking around to keep an eye on them, and particularly so when there's a lot of Irish football fans around, so they'd have to be stone mad to try anything. It may be different when Irish people are over there just on holiday but when there's the guts of 2,000 Irish in Limassol I think you'll find they'll be very reserved.
On a totally different note, is anyone planning on staying in Nicosia for the night of the game as a bit of change of scenery?

Likewise, we chatted with a few of them who wanted to join in the craic but didn't meet anyone looking for trouble.

From what I remember from the last time we played out there, there isn't much craic in Nicosia. You'd be better off going back to the area where you're staying.

Been toying with the idea. I'm basing in Larnaca but wouldnt mind a few beers in Nicosia after the game. How is everyone commuting to Nicosia? Is it feasible to get back to larnaca after the match or should we stay put?

The stadium is out in the middle of nowhere!
It's desert all around.

When we were there the last time a lot of the bars ran busses.
Taxis were cheap enough and some people hired cars.
It's not a long trip.
Somewhere in the region of an hour as far as I remember.

its not really that far out from nicosia just on the road into nicosia so id say most people will drink in nicosia and head out to match from there handy enough ... either that or few cans around the ground and back to ayia napa for flight home nearly straight after game ...

Just expecting it to be a bit different, plus might squeeze in the cultural aspect of the trip by seeing the green line. After 3 nights in touristy Limassol I reckon it might be good to see a bit of the real Cyprus in Nicosia for a night.
As regards buses to Nicosia The Step Inn, and possibly the Welcome Inn in Limassol I seem to remember ran a few buses for the game.

Unusual trip, combines a sun holiday with a football trip. personally i prefer city trips, but, the craic will be ninety anyway!

Cansed it at both Basel's, Paris & Tel Aviv so I don't see there being any issue with mass knacker drinking before the game outside the stadium in Nicosia. And there's the added bonus of not dying of thirst in the desert.

Booked flights to Cyprus back in mid April for €370. Same flights are now €440. Package deals may well work out cheaper than sourcing your own flights come September/October.

A gang of 14 of us booked in Feb. There's a few of us going from Dublin via Frankfurt to Larnaca. www.lufthansa.ie might be helpful but the prices could be nuts by now. But i reckon if you use your imagination you'll find a route there. There's a 2nd airport in Paphos on the East side of the island. www.helios-airways.com, for 2nd to 9th Oct is about 250 STG from London. My brother is going on that one.
