Which Bundesliga team offered him a contract?
Forde was quoted at saying during the summer friendlies that there was an offer from a German club, no mention about which club, what league or would he even be a first choice.
offers on the table (http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/soccer/soccer-news/david-forde-considering-move-bundesliga-3622664)
“There was one offer from Germany and I would have no problem moving. It is still in the mix. I have to weigh up the best options for my family because that is all that counts at the end of the day.
“I am looking to get the best possible deal and it is probably the best position I have been in.”

Somehow that's interpretated as nonsensical

In fairness to Forde, Bayern's interest abated after Neuer played a blinder of a World Cup...

Worth noting only the headline says it's a Bundesliga club. Forde's comments don't say that. Lazy headline maybe? Could it have been a Bundesliga 2 club?

In my opinion, it is nonsensical to pass up a move to a Bundesliga team to stay at a relegation threatened Championship team; for economic and sporting reasons. Maybe David didn't want his kids to move schools or his wife didn't like the shopping over there. We all know Irish players have a reluctance to move outside England or Scotland.

Where is Anthony Pilkington these days by the way?

But nowhere does he say a Bundesliga team came in for him, and nowhere does he say he turned such an offer down.

He did, however, say he'd have no problem with moving.

You seem to have things completely lopsided?

Pilkington is with Cardiff

Still awaiting some more details of the proposed Bundesliga move, which you've clearly weighed up, before coming to the rational conclusion that Forde lacks common sense.

Are you having a laugh? The man has a family that is probably happy and settled in England. You're operating on the presumption that he was going to be number 1 at a Bundesliga side- there's not evidence to support your presumption. He's 34 years of age and got a 3 year deal, probably for the best weekly wage of his career. More power to the man, I say. He's hardly accumulated a sizeable nest egg from his stays at Barry Town, Galway United and Derry City.

And if you have a quick look at the Championship table, it's early doors and Millwall have 2 wins and a draw. Very premature to be referring to them as 'relegation threatened' already.

I've been blowing Westwood's trumpet in his thread, so it's only fair I also post a video of Forde's impressive, quick-fire saves against Cardiff yesterday:

Seems to be playing with a lot of confidence at the moment, which is great for us.

First one was noteworthy in that those aren't easy to get down quickly too. Less than a body length away is harder to get down to than a dive and outstretched arm away (Nigel, agree?). Noteworthy because some believe it's his Achilles heel. The other Achilles heel after his kicking from open play!

It looked like he took a knock on his ankle late on yesterday, he was wincing when kicking the ball.

I came in here to do the same. He made a double-save, the first wasn't hectic, and led directly to the second save which was excellent.

Definitely; I've frequently put him down on this aspect of his goalkeeping, but it required agility and showed good reaction.

millwall and wigan gone - deservedly so. o'dea (blackpool), mcclean, mccann, forde and alan dunne i think are the irish contingent. may have missed one or two.

might be the last we see of forde in an irish shirt.

I find the antipathy towards Forde a bit strange. He hasn't really put a foot wrong for Ireland. And it can't be because of the goals he is shipping with Millwall because he has been shipping them since his first call up.

Hope he enjoys the culture, climate and techniques of League One next season.

Stuttgart88
02/05/2015, 12:43 PM
What antipathy? Antipathy is what you reserve for Richard Keogh. I've never seen anything but respect for Forde on these pages, though some don't think he is our best goalkeeper. That doesn't amount to antipathy in any definition.

Still it'd be out of character for you to willfully exaggerate to make a disingenuous point.

i can understand why you might think that as i've been critical of forde in the past, but it was a genuine observation that he might not play for us again. 35 and playing for a league 1 team - unlikey to move as he just signed a new contract. then we have westwood in the championship team of the year and given back in the villa side.

in an injury situation i'd far prefer forde over randolph and in particular rob elliott (who is a poor, poor keeper) so you never know, but it will be very tough for him now.

In light of discussion here (http://foot.ie/threads/160177-James-McClean?p=1819041&viewfull=1#post1819041), I asked Paul O'Hehir about his piece on Forde having received an offer from Germany and here is what was said: https://twitter.com/paulohehir/status/599093962578726912 and https://twitter.com/paulohehir/status/599094225733558274

Hi Paul. You penned an article about David Forde last year having received an offer from Germany: http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/soccer/soccer-news/david-forde-considering-move-bundesliga-3622664

The headline says it was an offer from Bundesliga but Forde's quote in piece simply says from Germany. Can you clarify if the ...offer came from the first or second tier in Germany at all or do you know if Forde actually clarified?

hi, remember it well, was at Irish training ground before a game. Headline perhaps misleading as he only said Germany... he didn't specifically say if it was Bundesliga but the suggestion at the time was that it was

I see. In what way? Suggestion from Forde or suggestion from misleading headline? Do you know which club it was?

a suggestion from other people I checked it out with. No, I don't know the team.

People connected/in the know? Fair to assume then?

at the time of writing I understood it to be bundesliga club yes. It wasn't a major story that week so didn't delve deeper

So, O'Hehir admits that the headline is "perhaps misleading" and that nothing much is known about the offer besides a few people (don't know who they are) "suggesting" it was a Bundesliga (first tier) team. However, on the basis of his clarification (reliable persuasive evidence), it is probably fair to now assume the offer came from the Bundesliga, although I actually still don't think it is absolutely one hundred per cent conclusive from O'Hehir's words. Either way, assuming and maintaining it to be a top tier club on the basis of the vague article wasn't warranted at all.

You went to all that trouble just to prove I was right? Sure I could have told you that and it would have saved you all that time and effort. You've got to trust me!

DeLorean

If anything that proves that you were completely wrong to assume and your assumption could still be incorrect. The actual reporter has accepted that he can't say for sure if it was a Bundesliga club but you still consider yourself to be in a position where you can state it as an actual fact, have you any idea how deluded and pretentious that makes you seem? The effort Danny has put in to get to the bottom of it was minimal compared to engaging with you any further on the topic.

Even if it was a top tier club, it could have been as a back up goalkeeper, in which case he would have still been better off with Millwall, certainly from an international football perspective. You make out like moving to Germany and learning a new language is such a wonderful proposition, but for a man in his mid thirties with a wife and couple of kids* there is a lot more to consider, not to mention the contract terms which we still no zero about.

Is it really that hard to just admit for once you might have assumed something unreasonably even in the face of the possible error of your ways having been pointed out to you by numerous people? It's terribly pig-headed. (I'm highlighting a serious shortcoming in your method of argument there, before you accuse me of insulting you.)

I assumed David Forde had an offer to play for a Bundesliga club, the author of the article seems to suggest that the offer was from a Bundesliga club and Forde's demeanor suggests it was from a Bundesliga club.

I seriously don't want to be badgered by something so trivial and insignificant again.

You really can't seem to get over this. How long ago did this happen? A year? You brought it up completely unprovoked on Shay Given's thread months ago and I ignored the bait. I really don't know why this is still an issue for you.

Please, get over it. I have no interest in entertaining the subject any more.

DannyInvincible
15/05/2015, 2:11 PM
You're truly shameless. A complete and utter liar. You brought it up in Shay Given's thread for absolutely no reason and I decided to step in because zero was nearly misled by your guff: http://foot.ie/threads/16525-Shay-Given?p=1807694&viewfull=1#post1807694

Forde's demeanour? Do you know what the word "demeanour" even means? Were you at the training session or something?

It came up now because we were discussing players who had offers from the continent in James McClean's thread because you, for some reason, saw fit to condemn McClean for rejecting offers we don't even know if he received or not.

Of course you'd no longer want to entertain this matter anymore. That's what you always say when you're out of corners to squirm into.

Luckily Millwall looking to downsize next year could see Forde sold anyway as he'd be a top earner. Hopefully his agent is onto Bundesliga/2.Bundesliga clubs as we speak.
