As someone says on the comments section of the gossip page, at least now he can add ex-sunderland players to his scouting network, to go with ex-ireland teammates, ex Celtic teammates and ex Man U teammates!!!
I know how this reads before I even type it... But I'd heard from someone who met McShanes sister that he's not too fond of Keano after their time at Sunderland.... That is all!

Roberto Martinez's first step as Wigan manager could be to sign Hamilton's teenage midfielder James McCarthy. (The Herald)

That would be a great move for McCarthy. Martinez clearly rates him highly and I'm sure would give him an immediate chance in the first team. Apparently he plays beautiful football. I'd love to see him go to Wigan, if Celtic under Coyle is not to be. :)

Swansea were linked with McCarthy recently, but had to pull out because of the transfer fee, so this could just be the paper putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5.
Martinez hasn't even been confirmed as manager yet!

It's definitely just paper talk 100% but I do feel Martinez will go for McCarthy whichever club joins.

Interesting that he mentions Chelsea being interested at one point, I remember that, but dismissed it at the time.
Stoke are set to join the race to sign Manchester City defender Richard Dunne, who is also being tracked by Tottenham.

There's no way in hell City are going to sell Dunne, I'll take a chainsaw to my right arm if he leaves in the summer.
I wouldn't be that sure myself. If he doesn't leave this summer I could easily see him going in January. Is this the drink bringing out an emotional side to you after Dunne's performance last night?

I think City's defence will be well settled by January. As Giles said, when Dunne plays like he has been for Ireland fingers have to be pointed at Man City for his club form.

I watched a fair few of Man City's matches this season, and it's obvious to see that their problem is the midfield.
Dunne lives in two extreme realities- with Ireland, he has a ridiculous amount of midfield support to help with defending- at Man City, they play with 5 attacking players at times, which leaves their defense completely exposed.
I think the arrival of Gareth Barry at City will make them more solid as a team, and thus City fans will have their 3 time player of the season back again.

Yeates has an eye for goal but is a bit lightweight. Can't ever see him making the international team.
As regards Dunne, only one winner there. Spurs, especially with his mate Robbie there already.

I could see Everton or Sunderland, but if he went to Spurs I think he'd just become a squad player since they have the likes of Modric who plays on the left (perhaps Redknapp wants to change his system around so that Modric plays in the middle though, so who knows).

Don't tease me :p He's well good enough for Roma imo, and would be a perfect home for him. I honestly don't feel England suits McGeady, he should for himself give it a go in Serie A if he can achieve a move there.

Just went over to toffeetalk there and it seems to be mixed opinion.
If I take my green goggles off and look at it from their perspective, they feel that they're just a couple of quality signings away from sneaking into the top four.
And from their perspective, they feel that these players, while it would help them in the depth department (quantitatively), it would not make them better qualitatively.
I can't say I disagree with them to be honest. Is Hunt better than Osman? Much of a muchness for me. Is Doyle better than Yakubu, Saha, and Anichebe? Again, I'm not entirely convinced.
But whatever way you look at it, 7 million pounds for the two of them is great value for money in my view.

id have to agree, from an irish perspective id be delighted to see him join a top quality team like everton, but i can totally agree with the everton fans opinion ,would he significantly help them push for a top 4 spot, probably not in fairness.

13/06/2009, 3:10 AM
I don't know how transfers work or how players engineer moves but if I was Kevin Doyle playing in the second tier of English football and looking at a career move I would be onto my agent and looking at Wolfsburg as a possible move, he would be a perfect replacement for Edin Dzeko, the thing is though writing this it seems so improbbable yet it really shouldn't be. The Premier League overall is probably better than Bundesliga, but teams suitable for Doyle are pretty full up in the Premiership so this would be a great option and also Champions League football.
I mean Marko Pantelic, a pretty top end Bundesliga striker was yesterday linked with Fulham and I'd say thats his level, Wolfsburg would definetly be within Doyles level.

Stephen Kelly in talks with Fulham apparently. Would be a superb move, Hodgson obviously sees something in him, its easy to foget the season before last he was very consistant for Birmingham playing every minute of the season, then he got injured and was unable to force his way into the team. Its like Colin Doyle, Birmingham fans I talk to think he's a very very good keeper.

I had very high hopes for Kelly, as he was probably Birmingham's best defender in their relegation season, but as you say injury has slowed him down.
It's unfortunate that he was selected for the Georgia game because he was nowhere near match sharp, even if he was fit again.
That said, if he gets a good pre-season under his belt, and manages to get Premiership football somewhere, he could put himself in contention for a full-back slot with us.
